Help!! I was told to day by someone that it sounded like I had walking pneumonia. I'm thinking I just have a bad cold. The lady didn't get a chance to go into further detail (or tell me what the signs are). So I tried to look it up, but just got more confused. According to one site I could have it, accourding to another, I don't. Would someone pleast tell me what I should be looking for before I run off to the doctor and it just be a bad cold!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

4-19-08 I went to the doctor this morning. I ended up having bronchitis and she wasn't happy with me for not coming in a little quicker!! So, I have now started zithromax and prednisone (for my coughing spasms). So hopefully by tomorrow when the weather is real nice, I'll be feeling better!!!
Thanks to all who replied!! I tend to be afraid to go to the doctor on stuff like that cause a member of my family (who goes to the doctor for less) acts like I'm making a mountain out of a moll hill!!

It depends on your symptoms but can only be completely diagnosed by an x-ray. Usually the doctor or nurse pract. will listen to your lungs and will listen to hear a gurgling sound. Pneumonia is basically fluid build up in the lungs. It makes it hard to breath and usually is accompanied by a productive cough (tan to green mucus). The quickest way to get rid of it is to take a round of antibiotics (and on occasion breathing treatments. Don't be afraid to go to the doctor especially if you want to get better sooner.

My son has had walking pneumonia 4 times this year. The pediatrician says it's the same thing as bronchitis. He has a very deep rattly cough that never goes away--we usually end up at the pediatrician after 3-4 weeks. He never runs a fever and seems fine, except the cough. There'a big difference between walking pneumonia and regular pneumonia. It's an easy fix with antibiotics. The pediatrician also recommends Mucinex each time he gets a cold-it helps with the congestion.

I'm not sure of the exact symptoms, but I have had pneumonia a few times. I felt completly exhausted all the time because of lack of oxygen. In my opinion it can feel like a really bad cold, your chest may feel tight and feel like you can't get a full breath of air. I think you may also sound sort of wheezy when you breath too. I hope this helps, and I hope it's just a cold, I would think if you are in doubt and don't feel any better in a few days it wouldn't be a bad idea to be seen.

Here is what I have found

Signs and Symptoms of Mycoplasma Pneumonia
Headache
Fever
Chills
Excessive Sweating
Dry Cough
Chest Pain
Sore Throat
Nausea or Vomiting
Other signs and symptoms of mycoplasma pneumonia may include:

Skin lesions or rash
Eye Pain or Soreness
Muscle Aches, Joint Stiffness, Fatigue
Neck Lump
Rapid Respiratory Rate
Ear Pain

I have never had it so I am not sure but your best bet is to just go see the doc and let them say if you do or don't. Or take medicine and if it doesn't seem to go away after a week or you get worse with taking the medicine then make an appt. Most of the time if you have just a cold the doc will tell you there isn't anything they can do it just has to run its course. That is what they told one of my parents about thier kid, and he has a really bad cough but it is nothing. I know what you mean about not having time to get sick I am a WAHM and other people depend on me to keep their kids.

E.,
I was at the doctor for another reason and the Doc was talking about a woman who came in with an upset stomach, which ended up being walking pneumonia. Her blood oxygen level was really low and he sent her straight to the hospital. Pneumonia is not something you want to mess around with, make a docotors appointment and let them check you out. You don't want things to get wrose if they don't have to. Plus if it's not pneumonia then you get some peace of mind and maybe they can give you meds to help with feeling sick.
