Wallpaper Help Needed

We just bought a house and I need to replace the wallpaper in the master bath. Now there is a very manly tartan plaid which evokes the sounds of bagpipes playing in my head. This is not good for the mommy who is a troll in the morning! Visions of my man in a kilt doesn't make it any better. HELP! I am painting and doing various other DIY chores, but changing the wallpaper begs for a professional. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone in the Lake Cities/Denton/Lewisville area that does this professionally? I've seen Lucy and Ethel try this project and I choose to pass.

What can I do next?

Oh, Hon, I feel for ya. I bought a house once that had hot pink and lime green silver foil wallpaper on the walls and ceiling! Now if that didn't wake you up in the morning, nothing would! [Did I mention that that bathroom also had lime green tub, toilet and sink ? :-O ]

As one poster said, I would highly recommend Southern Painting. I have not used them for wallpaper, but I have used them for painting and they were awesome. They didn't even require any $$ up front. The estimator told me I would not be paying them until they were finished and I was happy. Now that's customer service!

You might even want to consider having them remove the wallpaper and paint the bathroom, since wallpaper is pretty much out these days. I am in the mode of removing all the wallpaper from this house because I think it dates the house.

Good Luck!

Hi, first you are hilarious! I think we could be great friends! LOL! I had the grand hotel black stripes with gold scroll trim adorning my master bathroom walls so I totally understand! Anyway - I used Southern Painting to paint my house and they were great and the best price I got from 4 different referrals. ###-###-####. Dave Macmeeken was my estimator and he was very nice and professional, and the crew was fast and moved all the furniture and moved it back. I highly recommend using a professional because my entire house had been painted by the previous owners and was disasterous - spatter and droplets all over the floor, baseboards, counters, bathtub etc (so the floor and bathtub constantly look dirty from the tiny drops of dried paint)! They even attempted to do some sort of faux finish in the guest bathroom and then painted it dark sage green so it literally looked like moss all over the walls - hideous!! Good Luck!!

Hi, taking the wallpaper down is actually super easy if you rent that contraption from Home Depot. I don't know if it is a humidifier or what, but you plug it in (it needs to heat up for like 30 minutes) and then start passing it over the paper, and it comes right off. Just tell them you want to rent the machine that takes off wallpaper. Then you can paint over it! Good luck...

If you score the wallpaper and spray on a mixture of 1/2 wallpaper remover and 1/2 fabric softener, cover wall with dollar store plastic wrap, (yes, unroll and press over goop mixture) leave and do something else...in about an hour you should be able to just scrap it off. Save the money from the proffesional and have a spa day.

This is a reliable and very reasonably priced painter.

Their company is called "Painting by Olga". The owner's name is Daniel ###-###-####.

Tell him that A. N. referred you.

And may I recommend paint instead of wallpaper? You may be happier with that long term and it's not more expensive.

You could do a nice faux.

Hi L.,

I own a company called Errands A.S.A.P. in Lewisville. We offer "assistance" in all kinds of tasks...home improvement projects too! If you want wallpaper removed and replaced with a trowel-on texture, either painted or with a faux finish, we can do that. However, we do not hang wallpaper, just borders. If you call Marissa's Interiors in Carrollton ###-###-####) they'll tell you how to reach the paperhanger they use who is out of Azle. Please give us a call ###-###-####), if you want to remove your wallpaper and go with a textured, painted master bath.

Good luck and have a great day!

Hi L.,

I don't know if you are planning to replace the wallpaper with another selection (which we do not offer as a service) or if you are just looking for a great way to get rid of what you have - which I have a solution for...

My husband and I own a paint company, Fresh Look. Our niche market has been helping clients prepare their homes for sale - and no one wants wallpaper these days so we deal with that alot. My husband is able to tack down any loose corners - which always seems to happen in humid bathrooms... then apply a specialty primer made for painting over wallpaper. He can then paint the room any color of your choice. It is less expensive than wallpaper removal and gives the room a new "fresh look"! We would love to give you an estimate if you are interested. I have listed our contact information below. We are also on Mamasource's business listing and have some great reviews from past clients. You might wish to check it out.

Thanks and we hope to hear from you!
A. R.
