Can you share your experiences with laser hair removal? (How many treatments did you need? Did it work? Has the hair come back? Worth the cost?) Also, anyone in the NoVA region, can you recommend a GOOD waxing place (specifically bikini wax). I have only had one wax since I lived here and was not too pleased with it. I am frugal so cost is a factor :) Thanks!!

Addendum: I am willing to do my own waxing but have yet to find a product that does a good a job as the salons and the one time, it stayed on so hard, that I got massive bruising. Talk about attractive ;) Any recs on products would be great. Thanks again!

What can I do next?

I have had laser hair removal done and I have loved the results for the most part. That being said, I also have PCOS, so hair will always be a problem for me. I had laser done on certain areas as few as two times and the hair stayed away permanently, but other areas will need constant maintenance. I definitely think laser hair removal is worth the money. But remember, it only picks up dark hair. If you spend money to wax each month, you might as well spend that money on laser which is much more permanent and much less of a hassle. Good luck to you!

The thicker and darker the hair, the quicker it reacts to laser zap. I have been very satisfied with it. I am mid process on bikini area after 3 treatments, and have way less and way finer hair-my best friend had six treatments and has no hair growth left in bikini zone. Face works well in a couple of appointments, but new ones sprout so you need touch ups through the years as you get older. My armpit hair was so thick and black (attractive I know) for fun at one appointment I had her zap my pits real quick, and from just that ONE session, I have NO under arm hair. I don't even shave. I got that about 6-7 years ago and none has come back. I cant' believe I suffered for years with the heavy shadow, black stubble and ingrown hairs. Medium hair takes a few more sessions. Whatever you do, do it before you go gray, because light hair won't react to laser-unless they improve technology by then...

I have never had laser done since its so expensive but if you are worried about cost, you can do your own waxing. I think the hard waxes work better than the soft ones. You just heat it up in the microwave, put it on and peel it off. Just take a deep breathe and go for it. I usually do my own and I can decide how much to take off. Its much much cheaper.

I use Surgi Brazilian Wax, you can use it anywhere. Just don't leave it on so long. If it gets too hard put another coat on and pull that off. If you still get bruising then make sure you do it a week before you need to show off.

Hi, I had the laser hair removal done over a decade ago when it was brand new, and it worked for my dark hair/fair skin combination. One treatment was all I was able to afford and it still made a drastic difference in the overall density of the hair. Since then, I've been going to an amazing place near Tyson's, run by Shari Nasoutti (sp?) - she is a skin expert (studied for 4 years in Germany and got her degree) and has helped me in many ways over the years with skin issues re: hormone fluctuations, etc. She uses a wax that is the most effective at preventing ingrown hairs, which I am very susceptible to and also has a product that I use (Tend Skin) to make sure I don't get any ingrown's. She's a small business, one woman shop plus a massage therapist and even my 6' 5" hubby likes to go for a facial with her once in a while - it's almost as relaxing as a massage!

Her phone number is ###-###-#### and her business name is Esthete European Skin Care. She also does not try to sell you things you don't need, she's just terrific.

Good luck and let us know which route you go,
J

I had laser in the bikini/inner thigh area and it took 6 treatments....YES it is worth the money. I hardly ever have to shave. It is wonderful. I'm Italian and very hairy. I went to Alase in Springfield. I thought it was great.

Check www.groupon.com for deals in your city. I was able to get one area of laser removal for $99!

Just finished my first treatment and can already tell a difference (there are 6 treatments).

Good luck!
