We Need a Vacuum!

Hi- It should be easy to carry bc we have two floors. We have a short-haired dog whose fur is a little tough to pick up sometimes (but it's not overly abundant). We don't mind spending a little money if it's a great vacuum. Thanks!

What can I do next?

LOOOOVE Dyson! He and are are BFFs!

Found it about a year ago on Overstocks.com for about $250.

Best vacuum I've ever used.

I love my Oreck XL. It has a 10 yr warranty, free cleaning, belt changes, etc once a year. I've had it 3 yrs now and would buy it again.

I have 2 Hoovers, good vacs, both over 10 that still work well. They are heavier and were both under $500. I kept one on each floor of the house so no lugging up and down steps!

I don't have to do that with Oreck because it is so lightweight and works well.

I think I paid less than $1000, maybe around $800 and the sales rep threw in bags. I've never had to buy bags again! Hepa filter too.

MY SIL found a Dyson at a second had store dirt cheap... too bad she doesn't use it. Wish she would give it to me ;)

ANYWAY I have the Bissel pet hair vac, it's the ONLY vacuum I haven't managed to start on fire (seriously)... it's awesome, and not so heavy that you can't carry it up and down stairs. It wasn't very expensive, I think I got it at Target. I used to live in a 3 story house, all carpet, and it worked miracles :) It has all sorts of attachments too, and the filters are the kind you can just rise off (per the instructions)... no bags or extra filters to buy!

I love my dyson! I cut hair and it cleans my floor to a hairless state. Excellent customer service line, too!

I have a Dyson (purple one) and have had it serviced once at about 5 years... $250.00 for the service (new belt, cleaning etc). We do have a very hairy dog (Australian Shepherd/Border collie mix)... I really would consider an Orek or Miele (much pricier) but last much longer and do work better.

I hate my Dyson. *sigh* I have the purple one and seriously can't understand why people like it.

I am looking for a new vac, so I think I'll try the Oreck that another poster recommended.

Why not get 2! Walmart had a smaller, bagless vacuum (can't remember if hoover or bissell) with attachments for $45. They work well are lighter weight and you don't have to lug it from one floor to another. I have a room in our finished attic and got one just so I did't have to do the up / down thing.

Dyson! Ours is 7 years old and works like new. I have washed the filters and couple of times, but nothing else. We have a dog, three cats, two adults and a baby.

The purple Dyson is called the Dyson animal. We had two dogs at one point and it worked great! It is a little bulky trying to carry it upstairs, but it's a great vacuum!

I have a rainbow. It uses Water as a filter and you have to empty the basin with each vacuum session. I flush the dirt and hair but others throw it outside or into their compost piles. I've had one for over 20 years and just had it replaced with no repairs needed. Just wanted the added functions of carpet cleaner and floor scrubber which my old one didn't have. I use it as my shop vac, my car vacuum, my drapery cleaner, my duster, my spill catcher, just about every job. I've only had one problem of debris blocking the hose and that was because I inadvertanly sucked up a little green army man under the bed once. A broom handle fixed that issue. I've sucked up spilled 2 litres of soda, emptied my washing machine when it needed repair, cleaned up wall board dust from remodling, cleaned up sawdust from my woodworking, as well as hair from three cats, a dog, and dirt from three kids who seem to be magnets for grass clippings and mud. In 20 years, it's been used almost daily and has fallen down the stairs multiple times. It's been knocked over while running, it's cord has been yanked out of the wall by tripping on it, and yet I've never had to repair it once. I turned it in because there are new gadgets I want and love, but was sad to see the old one go. It had scuffs and scrapes that showed it was used and abused but it ran like a champ.

Pricey, undoubtedly - worth it, definitely.

i really like my purple dyson, it was hard to get used to because the ball really swivels and i felt like it was floating all over. but the amout of suction was just incredible. The plasticy parts seem alittle cheap but so far I'm happy.

I just got a Kirby...yes, I bought it from the salesman who came to do a free carpet cleaning! It was SOOO amazing. When they say the proof is in the pudding, the proof is in the dirt with this vacuum. When they do the demo you can see how much yur current vacuum is missing. It was 1200$... yes I knw its a lot but after I saw that my other vacuum wasn't working compared to this I had to have it. It does everything too...tons of things. Its an upright, canister, carpet cleaner, hard wood floors, all srts of cool attachments. Welll worth it. Let them cme and do a demo for you. You will NOT believe how much your current vacuum is missing!
