Weekend Getaway That's Baby-friendly and Dog-friendly?

Hi E. -- Carmel is the MOST dog-friendly town -- there are many wonderful places to stay that are baby-friendly as well as welcoming to your four-footer -- google Carmel, dog friendly places and you'll be quite surprised to see how many inns there are! We like the Vagabond House, Carmel Country Inn, the Coachman, the Carmel Fireplace Inn to name a few...and so many of the restaurants welcome pups too -- our fav is Forge in the Forest....

You could also rent a home in Sea Ranch, north, on the coast -- Beach Rentals or Rams Head Realty....

I've never stayed there but have heard about the pet-friendly Cypress Inn in Carmel because it's owned by former movie actress Doris Day. It seems to get a mix of very good and not so good reviews on Tripadvisor.com but you should check it out. I think you pay about 30 bucks extra for your pet every day. By coincidence we recently stayed at another hotel called the Cypress located in Cupertino (not related to the first hotel at all) and had a great time). We checked out a lot of stuff in the South Bay like parks and great food and felt like we really got away even though it was only 45 minutes or so from Berkeley. We had some very good travel experiences with our daughter when she was that age. You just need to find a way to translate the necessary parts of your routine to being away but being away is great! Driving is also good but you can haul any and all the baby gear you need with less hassle than flying (however we flew with our daughter a lot at that age and all did fine).

I recommend eating at Forge in the Forest. They have a dog menu!

I think you should look more into "dog-friendly" places. Because at three months of age, almost ALL places are baby friendly. She can basically go anywhere - since she will probably be in her stroller or being held. Not much to accomodate for her at this age.

I would suggest getting one of the books by Maria Goodavage, The Dog Lover's Companion to California and the Dog Lover's Companion to the San Francisco Bay Area. Lots of good information on places you can stay with your dog (and child). She also has a website, http://www.caldogtravel.com/.

I echo everyone else with Carmel being dog friendly (and baby friendly). I'm from Carmel and trust me, it's an honest love for dogs! :)

On the heading North front I thought I would give you this link: www.sheepdung.com (I know, weird but the place is great)

It's beautiful and while your little one is a little too young to really enjoy it now...she will in years to come. In the meantime it might be a nice place to do some actual R&R with your hubby and the pooch.

If you like Big Sur, I strongly recommend my favorite campground: Big Sur Campground & Cabins (www.bigsurcamp.com). They love dogs, have a rustic feel but lots of amenities, and they are lovely people besides. 1/4 mile away from the general store, right on the river, close to the beach and hiking... lovely place.
