Weight-Watchers Vs. Atkins

Hello Moms, I'm currently on the Atkins Diet with my husband,he's doing pretty well, I find it a real challenge. What I'm wondering is if there is another program that I could do and lose weight, but not be so restricted. My understanding is that Weight Watchers allows you to eat most anything, just in moderation, that sounds a whole lot better right now than eggs, bacon, cheese, ham, chicken etc. Any insight on programs that have worked for you would be welcome.

Thank you and stay healthy in this flu season!!

Weight Watchers is the healthier choice! Atkins is not meant to be a long term diet, it's actually not good for you at all. Restricting carbs is not good, because your body needs them...too much fat and cholesterol in the foods you are allowed to eat. Weight Watchers allows you to eat more of what you need and a healthier way to lose weight!
Good luck!!

I'm another Weight Watchers fan! My mom did WW when I younger so I sort of grew up on it. Then when I needed to lose weight as an adult I followed the Points program and liked it so much I started working as a meeting receptionist after reaching my goal weight! I have done a lot of research on other plans, and while they all have their strong points, WW is one of the only ones that truly TEACHES you how to eat for life. I find it hard to believe that plans that cut out entire food groups are healthy! Okay, off my soap box now!! I would encourage you to attend a meeting--at least at first. You get so many good ideas from the people there. Good luck!

Weight-watchers!!! It works. You have to plan ahead but you can eat any food you want. They have lots of receipes that are easy & taste wonderful & there are some food that are zero points which means you can eat as much as you want of it. You don't have to feel hungry. You may not be able to eat some foods all the time but if you plan ahead you can eat out & have cake at the party. It helps to have a buddy & attend the meetings(you get lots of ideas) & you eat regular food. My girl friend & I go together. She has lose over 50 lbs & I have lost 30 lbs-5 lbs from my goal. It's not a deit-it's a life change & a good one!!

I have heard wonderful things about weight watchers, which I may try after I give birth if I struggle (which I most likely will!) getting rid of my baby weight. I have a great friend who has been doing it and she loves it. She's a big eater and still gets to eat and has lost over 30 lbs. Good luck!

M.,
I have been on Weight Watchers since March and have lost about 43 pounds. I can not be on a diet that says I can't have this or I have to eat that. In fact, I don't call Weight Watchers a diet, I can it a live it. It is a plan that you can live with and not feel deprived. The keys are to find a meeting at a time and location you like, find a leader that you like, go to a meeting every week and journal every thing you eat.
Good luck. I'd like to hear how you do.

I'm a huge fan of Weight Watchers. I did it for the first time around 5/6 years ago. I moved to the States from England and my weight ballooned due to the complete change in life style (eating out every week and virtually no walking). I stuck to the plan very well and the weight just fell off. I got down to 140lbs (I'm 5'7) and looked the best I ever have as an adult. I've just had my second baby (well, 9 months ago!) and so I’ve signed up again. The thing that I like is that no food is off limits. I can eat whatever I want, as long as I stay within my points. So, I could go to McDonalds and have a Quarter pounder meal if I wanted. It would take up pretty much all my points for the day, but I could do it. This made it feel less like a diet to me. It was a huge learning experience for me too, as I discovered that foods I thought were healthy were actually not.

I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Try it out. I think you can sign up for a free one week online trial (I did my 100% online). See how you like and go from there.

Good luck.

I LOVE WW! I will be doing it again after baby #2 is born in 3 weeks. There are variations on the plans now, so it might be a bit different, but you're right - you can literally eat anything you want to eat. That's why I can stick with it. I'll tell you that the hardest part for me was getting started with the points system because I felt like it was time-consuming to figure that out. But if you use that plan, may I suggest that you take an afternoon to go through everything in your house and write on it how many points it is. Then you don't have to look it up each time you reach for something. After a week or so, you'll remember the values of the things you eat most, anyway, but this will give you a more confident start. Good luck!
