Hello Moms----Can anyone tell me their experience (symptoms) of Gall Bladder Disease? I do not thank that I have gall stones (but maybe I do)....I am more concerned with symptoms of Gall Bladder Disease. I have looked on the internet and found conflicting information. I am concerned because I have been having some strange symptoms (diahrrea, dizziness, chills, nausea after eating small amounts of food, etc.) all have been on-going for about 5 weeks.
Please let me know your experiences and how it was diagnosed and treated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

When my gallbladder started to flare up I thought I was having SEVERE back pain from carrying the 'bucket' carseat. I had incredible pain under my right rib cage that radiated around my back, I was nauseated, had diarrhea and could find NO relief. After I figured out what was happening, I treated the issue with diet and suppliments and would have continued until an unusually persistant ache followed an attack. I ended up in emergant surgery having half a cantalope removed where a jalopeno should have been. If you suspect gall issues you need an ultrasound to determine if you do have stones, it's the only way.

Good luck! I pray you don't have gallstones, I wouldn't wish an attack on my worst enemy.

You should ck it out right away. My now MIL had to have emergency surgery due to hers turning gangrenous. She almost died from what my hubby told me so this isn't something to mess around with. Ck it out, at least you'll know one way or the other what it is or isn't.

I am unsure of disease, but I had my gall bladder emergency surgery about 2 years ago. It was VERY painful once the duct tries to exit your gallbladder. The pain is like indigestion that won't go away and moves to your upper back.
When I went to the Doctor all he did was push hard below my right breast and I almost jumped off the table! He told me to get to the emergency room! You can live without a gall bladder (I am doing fine) just have to watch overly FAT/Butter items...or you will be in the restroom. I wish you best and go see the Doctor. Fixable.

Could it be thyroid disorder or IBS? Those symptoms could go along with those also. Check the internet for more! Good luck.

That sounds exactly like what happened to me right after I had my son. I never had this problem before, but I noticed that I would get these sharp pains in my left hand side right under my rib cage and it would ring all the way to my back and spasm like crazy. I would also get chills, cold sweats, dizziness, nausea and sometimes would force myself to throw up because it seemed that was the only way to make it stop hurting so bad. I would honestly recommend you go see your doctor. It turns out that it is heriditary, my cousin had to have an emergency surgery to have hers removed just a year a go, i've yet to have mine removed. I know it sounds crazy but I heard about taking 2 capfuls of apple cider vineager with each meal. It smells and tastes terrible so if you don't like the taste they sell the acv in a tablet form at gnc. I have started doing that since around christmas and have not had a flare up since then. Go see your doctor don't wait around. Gallstones are very painful and I hope that you are not a victim!

You need to see a doctor. Perhaps you have some kind of intestinal parasite. Gall bladder disease (which tormented me for a long time) is characteristically manifested by stabbing pain in the upper right quadrant of your torso. The pain travels through you and out your back between your shoulder blades. Eating fatty foods (especially ice cream and greasy meats) can bring on an episode.

Five weeks is a LONG time to go with such symptoms. My husband and I both had a touch of either food poisoning or a flu bug, and it lasted about a week. We are entirely back to normal now.

Go see your doctor. He/she will be able to better assess what's going on with you.

hi W.--just a quick note about gallbladder problems--I amallmost 40 and i haven't had any trouble yet-I have triplets that are 5-so you would think i would!!! anyway-my mother had the symptoms you are describing for years-she ignored them until her gallbladder turned into cancer-she was only 62 when she died- she was terrified of hospitals and dr's to say the least-all i am saying to you is stay on top of it--she was gone way to soon and i tried to get her to tak it out!!!!!! So many times, and she wouldn't-she would be here today if she would have. i only say this to you to help you-not trying to scare you. I have trouble with diarrhea and reflux sometimes and I take Nexium 40 mg 1 time a day-if you haven't tried it, give it a try, it helps soooooo much!!!! I would give the meds a try and if that does not work - get that GB out and soon.

sincerely,
K.-

I hope this helps:)

Over the past few years, I was diagnosed with IBS and then when it kept getting worse, I was told the IBS was acting up and then later was told that I was Lactose intolerant, etc. My last few episodes were extremely bad and I told the doctor that I thought I had gall bladder problems (after being told that from my sister-in-law). They did 2 ultrasounds (first on kidneys and then on gallbladder) and they came back negative. During the 2nd ultrasound, the Tech. asked me my symptoms and said that the ultrasound would only diagnose gall stones, but that if I had gall bladder disease (gall bladder not functioning properly), the only way to detect that was with a Hida Scan (nuclear medicine test). I had another severe episode (explosive diarrhea, vomiting at the same time as the diahrrea, abdominal pain that went all the way to the back, and chills). I went back to my PCP and he suggested having the Hida Scan done. All they do for that test is inject you with a medicine to basically swell you up and then inject you with the nuclear medicine. This is done in a hospital and is done with you lying down on a table with an X-ray machine over you. The nuclear medicine causes similar pain to the episodes I was having (including the urge to throw up). The x-ray monitors the EF (Extraction Factor or something like that). It is basically checking to see how the gall bladder output is. Normal is 80% or higher (mine was 7%). I was then referred to a surgeon and had my gall bladder removed via laproscopic operation. I can now eat most anything without all that pain, etc. Please urge your doctor to give you an ultrasound and Hida scan. If it is gall bladder disease, schedule the surgery as soon as possible so that you can get relief! I am so glad to have finally figured out what was wrong with me (thanks to my sister-in-law) and getting it taken care of! Good luck!

Gall bladder pain is excruciating. Feels like a wooden stave being driven through your chest and coming out the back--or vice versa. I remember rolling on the floor in pain and then throwing up, going to the emergency room and throwing up some more. I did not get nauseated after eating a little food, no dizziness, chills or diahrrea, just lots of pain when an attack would hit and the vomiting just happened. I was pregnant so they couldn't x-ray me. I waited until my son was born (I was 25 yrs. old) and then had the surgery when the attacks started up again. I had 73 gall stones. After surgery, I had diahrrea for about 6 mos. to a year. But it went away finally.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. You're lucky they don't cut into people anymore for gall bladder surgery. I was in bed for six weeks recovering.

Good luck.

W.,
I urge you to go to the doctor now. The fever/chills says you have an infection and infected gall bladders are really, really serious. Before they can operate, the infection has to be cured. The longer it goes on the harder that is and weaker you are.
If you do not have any cramping pain in the upper right quarter of your abdomen, it may not be gall bladder and you have some other type of infection. Even kidney infections can give you nausea and fevers.
IF you get the diagnosis of gall stones, the surgery is done with fiberoptics. No big incision. Both my husband and daughter had the surgery and my husband's was on Saturday and he was back at work on Monday. My daughter also had a fast recovery, but she had a few episodes of vomiting and nausea for a week after, but no pain. If you don't have time to be "off duty" quickly get thee to a physician. Emergency "open" surgery has a much longer recovery and many more complications.
If it is not gallstones, you need to get a diagnosis as to what it is before the infection gets more of a toe hold on your system.

W.,
So sorry for your pain. I found out I had gall stones while I was pregnant, just had to live with the pain until the baby was born. My pain was much like the others mothers have explained with the pain in the center of my chest all the way through to the back, between the shoulder blades. I never had nausea although I know that is another symptom. My pain was so great that I'd rather give birth again & again then to ever have another attack! There are natural ways to help with the symptoms, which is what I originally, wanted to do, but from what I understand the pain can always come back. I ended up having my gall bladder removed. Thank God! The draw back, loose bowels a lot of time since then, but worth the trade! Go see your doctor now, if you do have stones & don't take care of it, it could become diseased. If it's already diseased, you need to get it out of there!! Good luck & God bless! H. B

Like the post below I also had extreme pain under my rib cage. It felt like something was sitting on my chest and it was hard to breathe. I had chills and would throw up after an attack (maybe the pain was so intense). It was horrible. Go to your doc and he should give you some pain meds if you have an attack and they should do an ultrasound to see if you need it out. Good luck.

For anyone interested in anything gallbladder related, including symptoms of GB disease and GB stones, pros & cons of both medical treatment and alternative treatments, recommended diets for post-op (should you go that route), healing GB disease and dissolving stones naturally etc., I would start my research at www.gallbladderattack.com. Then find a naturopathic doctor to help guide you through the cleansing/detox process.

In Sept-08 I went to the ER while having a GB attack. An ultrasound revealed 2 very large stones and MANY small ones. Although the doctors HIGHLY recommended surgery, since it was not an emergency, they let me go. I have been treating the GB disease and stones naturally with diet, herbs and supplements and have not had any attacks since then. I was told it could take 6-12 months to dissolve the larger stones, so in Sept I plan to go get another ultrasound and see what's there. I am very optimistic!

I just recently had my gallbladder removed (one month ago). I had symptoms off and on over several years. I just thought I had slept wrong, had a stomach virus, or ate something bad. I went to the doctor and she said I either had an gastrointestinal virus or it was my gallbladder. The pain did not go away. The hida scan showed that my gallbladder was functioning at 16%. When the surgeon removed my gallbladder, he said that there were no stones in it but that the duct was completely blocked. The blockage caused my gallbladder to be chronicly inflamed. Don't mess around with it. My mother-in-law waited too long and her's burst. She had to have emergency surgery. She had gangrene. My diet is not bad and I am not over weight. Mine was genetic. I have several women in my family that have had their's removed.

W., after 15 years of suffering and self treating with cleanses, apple juice and cider vinagar, I had my gallbladder removed in January. I am so glad I did. The doctor said I had 31 LARGE stones and they were too big to pass. I was in so much pain for the last five months that I couldn’t sleep at night. My first symptom was explosive diarrhea when I ate any dairy. I was told I was Lactose intolerant and to avoid all dairy. Then I had a pancreatitis attack. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t eat anything for several days. This happened several times again over the 15 years. I could only eat baby food for weeks at a time. I could manage but only if I ate bland low fat foods. I resisted having surgery even though I was in pain and nauseous most of the time. The last draw happened in November while I was traveling. I became ill while visiting a friend in another state. I spent 4 days in bed with a high fever and excruciating pain. I couldn’t eat anything but I did manage to drink water. I didn’t want to go to the emergency room because I knew they would operate and I would have to recover at my friend’s home. I was lucky my gallbladder didn’t burst. When I got home I was fine for about 6 weeks. I was losing weight because I wasn’t eating much of anything. Then in January I took sick again. I had an ultra sound of the gallbladder and scheduled the surgery. Surgery was easy and I was home the same day. After 7 rough weeks recovering where I couldn’t keep much in my intestines, I have made a full recovery. I highly recommend the surgery to anyone. And for anyone suffering from post surgical diarrhea, take fiber tablets an hour before a meal and more fiber tablets an hour after the meal. This will totally fix the post surgical runny bowels. It works!! Now I don’t know why I waited so long. If you have a medical plan - get to the bottom of the problem and deal with it. Don't wait - I suffered for 15 years for no good reason. Good luck.
