What Did You Crave When You Were Pregnant?

Or what do you crave? Likewise what made (or makes) you nauseous or grossed out just smelling or thinking about it?
I don't remember any real significant cravings. I'm sure I craved Mexican or Italian here and there, and this pregnancy is too soon to tell.

I do remember last time eating mangos with salt and tapatio sprinkled over them a couple times and then suddenly it made me sick to even think about it. I also had a bottle of Downey fabric softener in a vanilla-lavender scent that I had to give away to my sister because all of a sudden it made me sick to smell it!
So wierd, those are the two that really stand out. So tell me yours..

With my first born (daughter): I didn't have any strong cravings and none for sweets at all. I just had a bigger appetite and I ate varied things, as usual. And what is interesting is, my daughter will eat anything as well and is not picky and she has a good appetite.

With my 2nd born: ALL I craved, for MONTHS, morning noon and night ALL day and night, was Salads. And, what is interesting is, my son, although he is a picky eater... he LOVES salads.

But with both pregnancies, I had REALLY bad morning sickness and migraines. But I did acupuncture and that got rid of it.

In a grocery store, the meat department smells made me nauseous, as well as the smell of cooking rice. Of which here in Hawaii, rice is a staple eaten daily.

Food. In general. All the time. (Before being pregnant I rarely/barely ate).

Heinz Ketchup with steak fries. Fries optional about half the time.
Sauerkraut with avocado.

The 2nd one i STILL do! Mmmmm. Reubens with Avocado. I know, intellectually, that it's gross. But it's a pregnancy food that still tastes as WONDERFUL as it did fixing those cravings.

Unwashed dog. OMG. Our housemate had a dog he hadn't bathed in a year. She, literally, made me throw up every time she came into the house. My (soon to be ex) husband at one point brought her and her bed into. our. room. to sleep. (Housemate was away on business). I cried for hours, retching in the bathroom.

Huh. Looking back on it... I really should have left then, and not waited 10 years.

First baby: craved fish and chips. In fact I was on a mission to find the best fish n chips in the county. I was a vegetarian at that time too. Lost my taste for pizza. Good news, I got it back after baby was born.

Second baby: craved Mexican food like crazy. I had to have it at least 4 times a week. Lost my taste for hot dogs. Even the thought of them made me gag. They still aren't my favorite but I will eat them.

What did I crave? Ice, ice and more ICE!! Couldn't get enough of it! The smell of Home Depot when you first walk in! The scent of a brand new book or magazine. I couldn't wait to get the mail with Parents magazine in it just so I could sit and smell it! Oh, yeah one last thing I craved was...ready...wait for it....the voice of Alex Trebek from Jeopardy, yep, couldn't wait to hear his voice each and every night!

What made me sick? Fast food of any sort, and the fish isle and the laundry detergent isle of my local grocery store! Unfortunately they are right next to each other so I wanted to vomit everytime I had to walk past with the two smells combined.

Craving...curry chicken from one of our favorite places and cheese enchiladas from a Mexican restaurant we used to live by. I made my husband drive me there a few times when we moved away (20 mins). Turkey & avocado sandwiches from Submarina..and only Submarina..nothing else did it.

With my first child the first aversion decided to show at the worst time. Spaghetti sauce. We were at the Old Spaghetti Factory with a huge group of people and the longer I sat there the sicker and sicker I felt. When everyone at our table began to get their food it only got worse. I ate bread and got my food to go and almost had to leave. Funny thing is I was able to eat it the next day. The entire rest of the pregnancy I could eat things with spaghetti sauce so long as it was in the other room and a small portion at a time was brought to me, so one piece of pizza at a time type thing, 2 would be too much.
Another thing that made me sick was raw meat or cooking meat of any kind. That got worse each pregnancy and is still a problem years after.
When I was pregnant with my second we were still using the Diaper Genie for my first that wasn't out of diapers. One day I walked up the stairs and was knocked to my knees from the nausea caused by the smell of the perfume in the bags. Very next day we got rid of the Diaper Genie and got a diaper pail that used regular trash bags.

With my first I craved Peach Snapple. I would buy the individual ones at work in our caffeteria and they were like $1.75 each. Finally, my husband bought me a case and I didn't even touch it.

With my second I craved hot dogs. I ate like a whole pack every day in my last month. lol

I didn't need anything to make me "feel" nauseous, I threw up the entire 9 months every day morning noon and night for both pregnancies. I even threw up in the middle of my c section and they were all, oh no, we gave you meds for that. Uh, get ready boys cuz here it comes! Gross. So I didn't need anything to make me sick, I already was. =)

Made Me Sick:
Brushing my teeth - I had a strong gag reflex when I was pregnant and vomited almost every time my toothbrush touched the back of my tongue. Also, I had to dilute any juice, Gatorade, etc. about half and half with water because it tasted way, way too sweet. To this day I still can't stand drinking anything like that full strength because it's too sweet.

Love this question, it is so interesting to see all of the different tricks that those lovely hormones play...

With my first, I had a strong aversion to seafood. Before I knew I was pregnant, I went to dinner at a seafood restaurant and was awful to the server. I kept sending my fish back because it just HAD to be rotten, it tasted so awful!!! I still feel bad about that one... I also couldn't eat pizza with sauce. It was so weird, I had to get the crust with the cheese, then sauce on the side and dip the pizza into the sauce. Makes no sense, but even thinking about "regular" pizza made me woozy.
Cravings were tree tomato gelato and fresh passionfruit, after spending the second trimester in Kenya, neither of which are readily available in AZ!! I also ate crackers with peanut butter like crazy, and since then cannot even look at them.

With my second, I didn't have a lot of aversions to food but smells were SO intense. The building where I worked had an elevator that was right next to the basement kitchen, and I swear the cooking smells all vented into the elevator shaft. I would ride up to the third flooor and then run right to the ladies' room every morning!
Cravings were any and all fruit. I could not get enough, and that lasted about 3 months after the delivery!

With my first, it was Icees/slushies and those Pintos and Cheese from Taco Bell (do they even still have those?) - it got to the point where my husband didn't even ask any more; if we were passing either one while out and about, he just pulled in!

Then with my second, it was cheese sandwiches late at night!

Things I couldn't deal with was raw chicken and tuna! Oh my gosh, I thot I would throw up. Well, most the time I did - had morning sickness with both just about the whole time!! But it was all worth it!!!

Fun question!!

With my son it was ice-cream. Two bowls a night. I'd eat one and go... "man that was good, I think I should have more." I could not stand the smell of fresh crab and certainly couldn't eat it when I was pregnant with him, though I loved it before and after I had him.
