What Do You Do over the Long Holiday with Your School Kid?

The YMCA has "School's Out Camp" on days when school is closed. You don't have to be a Y-member to utilize it. You can find out more information at www.firstcoastymca.org. My daughter enjoys going because it gives her a chance to interact with a different group of kids.

Check out a local YMCA, contact your library (they normally have information or knowledge of programs and can provide you with the contact information), contact your community center (if you have one) because if it's like ours they do camps just during the holidays for kids of working parents and the cost is reasonable.

I am assuming you mean the holiday break in December? Check with your public school, your city, or your religious affiliation to see what is available that way. The JCC, many cities and the public schools all have programs and many more have already been listed.

Also, a friend of mine has grandparents in Honduras that she flys in for these kind of breaks. She said it is cheaper for her to fly the 2 grandparents in for Christmas than to buy tickets for the 5 of them and she saves on paying for thes holiday "camps" because her kids spend time with their abuelos. If there is a grandparent or other family member who would like to be your holiday "camp" that might work to everyone's advantage.

I googled Delray Beach holiday day camps and came up with this flyer:

CITY OF DELRAY BEACHNEWS RELEASE
Out of School Program Registration
June 24, 2008: The Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department opens registration for the Out of School Program on June 30th for Delray Beach Residents only. Registration will be held Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm and then from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm at the Delray Beach Community Center. There will be a one time registration fee of $10.00 per child, plus a monthly fee of $12.00 and up per month/per child, according to the child’s Palm Beach County School Lunch status. Parents must bring the completed application, proof of residency, registration fee, first month payment, birth certificate and a picture (head shot) of each child (which will not be returned) to registration.

The Out of School Program is open to children 5 to 12 years old, and is a 12-month program beginning this school year and will include after school, day camps, ½ day camp, holiday and spring camps, and summer camp. Children are required to attend each day. Delray Beach Resident can also sign up just for the summer camp. The Out of School Program also has a partnership with the ARC for an inclusion program for children and adults with developmental disabilities; they are given the opportunity to interact in classrooms and social settings with peers of their own age who are not developmentally disabled.

Transportation will be provided from the schools to the Parks and Recreation After School sites during the After School Program and ½ day camps. Parents will need to provide transportation to the centers for day, holiday, spring break and winter camps. Snacks will be provided for the After School program and lunch and snacks will be provided for summer camp.

I don't know where you live, but I would check with YMCA, they offer a wonderful fun-filled camp. I have been with them for two years now and very pleased with the quality of service and care.

I was wondering the same thing!! I know of several daycares that offer progams for the holiday the problem for me is that they are very expensive.
