My daughter is 10 and loves to read! However, she is having a hard time finding something that interests her. (we live in a small town so our library is not the big) We go to the library each week and she picks out a few but when we get home she tries reading them but cant get interested. I dont know what the kids are reading these days. Any suggestions?
I have a 10y boy. He LOVES Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He is know reading Holes. My mom recently sent me a list of 50 books that an 11y should read.
Showed him the list, he only wanted to read 2 of them. Maybe you'll have some better luck.

It depends on what she's into. My daughter is 10 and loves the Harry Potter Books. She also loved the Diary of A Wimpy Kid books as well.

what types of things interest her? That can make a big difference in what books will appeal to her. I have 9.5YO twin daughters who both love to read, but their interests, and consequently their reading lists, are VERY different.
DD1 likes historical fiction and nonfiction books about her favorite animals (sea otters, pandas, etc.) and historical eras (mostly related to opera and classical music/composers). Some of her favorite series are the American Girl, Dear America, and Royal Diaries historical fiction. She also enjoys Beverly Cleary books (thought Henry Huggins was especially amusing)
DD2 likes fantasy fiction and mysteries. Her favorites include Erin Hunter's "Warriors" books (about a society of feral cats), Jenny Nimmo's "Charlie Bone" series, Georgia Byng's "Molly Moon" books, Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" books, the "39 Clues" books (various authors), Christopher Paolini's "Eragon" series... will post back when I think of more, she read a TON this past year.
Some books they both like include Grace Lin's "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon" (an adventure with roots in old Chinese folk tales), Trenton Lee Stewart's "Mysterious Benedict Society" (I think there are 3 books to that series so far), the historical fiction books by Yoshiko Uchida (Journey to Topaz, Journey Home, A Jar of Dreams, etc. - stories of Japanese-Americans in the '30s and '40s - DH's mom is Japanese-American and the stories are set in the era she grew up in),
My daughter is 9 and really likes all the books by Roald Dahl (The BFG, The Twits, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach).
Her father alread read the ENTIRE Harry Potter series to her, but now she's reading them herself.
Oh, and Percy Jackson books.
"The Lightening Thief" by Rick Riordan, is popular with my daughter's classmates.

Kristen ( 10) is reading a lot of Judy Bloom all of a sudden. She is also on book 5 of a Series of Unfortunate Events, she has started a series called Warriors that is about cats ( fantasy/ the cats can talk) She read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Great Glass Elevator this summer. She already read all of The Judy Moody books.
Ask what she is interested in and ask the librarian for suggestions based on her interests. There is a series of chapter books based on the Disney fairies ( Tinkerbelle etc) that are cute.
I have a 9 yr old daughter who reads at a 6th grade level. She reads all kinds of books. She likes Dear Dumb Diary, Diary of Wimpy Kid, Nancy Drew, American Girl books. She also usually checks out a couple of non-fiction books so she can learn something new. Maybe start a book club with her and find something you both can read then discuss it together. Or see if she can join a book club at the library.
I have two girls 9 & 12 who are both huge readers. We go to the library frequently but I also buy them books online. Thriftbooks.com is great if you have particular title or author. Most books are only $3.95 with free shipping and if you select more than one book from the same ship location you get another .50 off. It's great for adult books and hardcovers too, just an awesome site.
I also buy book "lots" from Ebay. If you search under kids chapter books or young adult you can get a big box full of age appropriate books for $15-$20. We've had great luck by selecting a lot with a few titles we recognize, the rest are almost always similar enough to be of interest to the kids. It's fun to see them discover titles they may not have come across on thier own and if you want you can always re-sell them to buy more books to keep the cost down. My daughter and I added up the original cost of one of her book boxes and it was over $400 for less than $25. It's also fun to pass them on to other kids. Happy reading!
Mine always liked to get magazines in the mail. She also read Harry Potter and some of the vampire books. I used to like the Babysitters Club and Sweet Vallet High. Boy am I old. Since you have a computer, have you thought of getting ebooks? You can go to Amazon and get recommendations.
My 10 yr old daughter loves reading Judy Moody, Nancy Drew, and Allie Finkle, Hardy Boys, Ramona, and Magic Treehouse books.
She may like the Nancy Drew series. My niece reads a lot of chapter books by J. H. Sweet.
I taught 4th grade until last year when I had my daughter. Some really great books are The Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull, Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins, Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, kids still love the Indian and the Cupboard. Those are all fantasy books, that's kind of what's popular right now.

Alot of ten year olds are into wizards stuff but mine is not. There is a series called Warriors that is all the rage - she could care less. She is into judy Moody, Amelia Bedelia (still) Animorphs, the Boxcar kids, Puppy Patrol, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Bailey School kids. Dragon Slayers Academy, and Katie Kazoo Swtcheroo.

My 10yr old just finished a book called "Shakespeare's Secret" by Elise Broach and declared it was the best book she's ever read. And the Lemony Snicket books also seem to be popular with her.
