What is the comparison between Diaper Genie and Diaper Champ?

I currently have a Diaper Genie, however, I really hate that I have to stick my hand in and push the diaper underneath the "teeth" to be able to close it. Plus, it doesn't keep the smell out at all. I am thinking about selling it and getting a Diaper Champ, but I really don't know anything about Diaper Champs. Are they better/ worse than Diaper Genies? So far, the only thing I THINK I know about it, is that you don't have to stick your hand in dirty diapers and push them down. Please let me know if you like/ dislike Diaper Champs, how they work, do they keep the smell out, etc. Or if anyone has any good ideas to keep the smell away, I use Oust after every diaper, but the smell comes back. Thanks!

We actually chose the Diaper Dekor & couldn't be happier. My daughter is almost 21 months & it is still odor free!

Hi M.,
I've had both. The smell seems to permeate the plastic after awhile, especially the genie. The good thing about the champ is that you can use regular liners. We get the odor control tall kitchen garbage bags with the draw string. They are expensive but they do help. We have two in diapers and my abest advice is to change the liners often and don't let it get too full.
God Bless,
T.

I used a Diaper Champ with my daughter. I don't think it's any better at containing the smell than any other diaper can. I started taking the poopie diapers out and that resolved it.
It is nice because you just put the diaper in the top then flip the lid over for it to go to the bottom.
I personally try not to spray anything around her room, so I used an orange deodisk used for cloth diapers: http://www.tinytush.com/deodisks.htm
Here's a link to info for cloth diapering smells too: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=696838
That may help reduce the odors for you.
Good luck!

Hi M.,
I had the diaper champ with my first son and hated it!! It is easy to use but it doesn't do anything to help with the odor. I bought, and am still using with my 3rd son, the Neat system from Babies R'Us. You still have to push it through something but it does a great job with odor control. Good Luck!

I liked the Champ - I could buy bags from Walmart and I felt there was less touching by me required. Nothing will keep the smell completely out...one of the joys of parenthood!

I have the champ and love it. I have used it with both of my kids and its been great. If you change the bags on a regular basis you have no issues with the smell ( I know that is what the genie says its better at) The big + for me was that you can use regular garbage bags, you dont have to buy special stuff for it :) Hope this help!

I had a diaper genie for one week and hated it. All though I never purchased one, I have reccomended the Diaper Champ to my friends. Most of them have it and love it. The friends that don't have the Champ have no diaper pail at all. For both of my children I have used a small flip lid diaper pail. I believe it was Safety First $17. I have had it for 3.5 yrs. It holds a regular kitchen garbage bag and I mostly put wet diapers in it only. Here are two ways I learned from other moms what to do with poopy diapers. If it's a solid poop, dump it in the toilet and flush it away. Then you have a wet diaper that can go in the trash or diaper pail. Or, just keep your left over plastic grocery bags and put the diaper in it, tye it up, toss it in the out side garbage. Many of the moms I know just toss them out the door and collect them at the end of the day and take them out to the garbage. I found these methods worked best for me, not what you hear about, but no stink in the house GARUNTEED :)

Hi I too had a stinky Diaper Genie after about a year... I did get the diaper champ and do like it soo much better for these reasons 1) no twisting and shoving as you mentioned, so very easy to use one handed and 2) no need for expensive refills because you can use any trash bag (I recommend the smallest glad scented)
However after several months of use I have noticed that the diaper pail can get a little funky if I don't take the trash out of it every other day. (we are potty training so it gets full less often) The smaller trash bags encourage frequent emptying and the scented bags help keep things fresher. I do love that I don't smell anything when using it, no bad stink when putting the diaper in it, the only time I may notice a smell is when changing the bag.
I don't think there is a perfect diaper pail out there, after all it is housing some pretty nasty stuff on a regular basis, but this one does beat the diaper genie in my book, and better than a trash can with a lid because you don't have to open the whole thing every time you use it.

I have a diaper champ and I love it. It takes the same 13 gallon garbage bags that my kitchen trash can does and there is no smell (until you have to empty it). I empty mine about every 3 days and I go through about 8 diapers a day. You don't have to touch the diaper to get it into the container either. I hope this helps!

Dear M.,

I suggest getting rid of the diaper containers. Just put wet diapers and the new baby diapers (not stinky yet?) into the regular trash. Put the stinky diaper in a quart size Ziploc-style baggies (I get cheapest kind at dollar stores or Walmart)and then into the regular trash or in the outside trash. I found this was much less work and less money with little to no stink. Hope this helps! K.

I used to use the Diaper Champ and thought it was great - not very smelly at all. My sister in law told me to get this over the Diaper Genie as she had the same problems with it that you mention. Good luck!
