Hello, MOms,
My son will be turning two in February and I do not know what to do. He loves balls - any and all. He lies the monkey from Curious George and Jungle Book. I would like to do something with balls but I can't think of anything for his age.
His firth b-day was Happy Feet which was a bug hit!
Any suggestions would be great on some kind og ball themed 2nd year b-day party.
Thanks!

What a friend of mine did for her duaghter's birthday was buy a ball pit and balls. You know the inflatable kind the kids and sit and jump in? She had that set up then also did a whole other set up with tents and tunnels. It was very fun.

If you have a wading pool still and order small plastic balls (I saw lots of plastic balls at Target) and let little ones jump in there.

Or buy a bunch of big bouncing balls (2 bucks each I think also at Target) Kids are really easy to please and let the kids run outside. And maybe let kids 'draw" with colored permament markers on them and let one of them take home.

I've learned that to keep it simple at birthday parties regarding food and games etc.

Enjoy!

I made a monkey cake for my daughter's 2nd b-day. That was 2 years ago and she still talks about it. Do a search in Martha Stewart's website for a monkey cake. Also served small bananas andhad monkey invites. Had a jumpolene set up in the living room (cross between a trampoline and a wading pool) so her 3 other friends and her jumped and monkeyed around to their hearts' delight.

I just got done having my sons 2nd birthday and we all had a blast. You can get a sports jumper house, they usually have a basketball net in them and get a soft ball for the kids to play with- my son loved having the jumper at his party, I had to bribe him out of it just to eat lunch and open gifts =). Also, I got a Play Hut Sport toy thing, I got it as Ross, and it's one of those play hut tent things, that has basketball, skiball and baseball and it came with 5 small balls, you can fold it up and take it any where with you and he loves that one. You could also order craft kits from Oriental Trading to decorate balls and let the kids take them home. You can make sport shaped cookies and let the kids with parental help decorate them. For food you can do dodger dogs for a baseball kind of theme. Hope some of this helps- good luck and have fun! =)

You could buy one of those blowup ball pits (I think they have them KB Toys) and buy extra balls. Also, buy various other balls - soccer, nerf baseballs, basketballs, footballs, etc. You could even decorate the balls with the monkeys from Curious George and Jungle Book (I'd use stickers because I'm not very crafty). Congratulations on your son's birthday!

YOu could fill a plastic baby pool with balls and let him play in it (remember the balls at Chuck E Cheese back in the day?) Curious George would be a cute theme.

Don't know of a ball theme though...does he like any other shows?
We had a Backyardigan party for my twin boys 2nd Birthday (they love them).
Check out All Aboard Toys.com, they have GREAT party supplies for all kids themed parties at a great price!!

Good Luck!!

I got a jumpy for my son and went on oriental trading company (online) and ordered some beach balls. You can get 12 for $10 or less. I bought a bunch blew them up and threw them in there for the kids. Then when they left they took one with them. Oriental trading has different sizes as well that are really cute. They also have jungle themed ones that would be perfect if you theme your party. :) Good luck! I'm sure it will turn out great!

Hi D.,

It has long since I had a two year old but I love planning parties. The thought just came to me to do a party with different ball zones. So my idea is have a mini basketball court, an area with a soccer net and then a small pool with the plastic balls. If you have space for all this... You can create a game for each zone and give away coordinating prizes for example basketball sticker or a ribbon. Oh better yet, greet each child at the door with a name tag, and as they go to the different zones, put a coordinating sticker on their name tag. That way they can keep the name tag as a momento and also it encourages them to participate. Try this website it has lots of ball themed decorations. http://www.partyandpaperwarehouse.com.

Good Luck! I would love to hear how it turned out. Have Fun!

Hi - I bought a Thomas the Train Ball Pit for my son and he LOVES it so much, and it is hysterical to watch him in it.

As far as a party, hmm . . . I think maybe you can rent a ball pit, but I like the smaller ones better. Maybe a sports party, where you can set up a soccer net, a basketball net, a tether ball, like have little sports stations in different places.

I recommend the personal ball pit though, they have all kinds and they are awesome.

have fun!

The first thing I thought of to tie the monkeys & ball themes together would be to buy or make a wooden or cardboard sign with monkeys painted on it & holes cut out in a few places, prop it up, and let the kids throw small balls through the holes as a "game". Little kids love this activity- just don't keep score at this age! You could also buy or cut out a bunch of monkey shapes & have kids "ball paint" on them. You just get a box lid, put the paper monkey in it, squirt some paint in the corners, & then have the kids roll golf balls through the paint to make tracks on the monkey. Make sure you do this with adult supervision though- 1 & 2 year-old can get very messy if no one's watching! How about making a "pin the banana on the monkey" game? Just use scotch tape to have the kids stick cut-out bananas to a poster of a monkey. Don't try to blind fold them or keep score, though. Maybe if they're up to the challenge, you could place the picture a little high & have them jump to place their banana. Ok, sorry if I'm getting carried away! I'm a preschool teacher & I've worked with 2's for years, so the ideas just keep popping into my head!

Hope it helps,
C. : )

There are some sports theme on the oriental trading company or Birthday express. You'll have to order online. Party place (I think that is called or Party City) might have some things to here on island there is one in Waikele. If you order online give plenty of time for them to ship to you so you don't have to pay for fast delivery (one of the companies doesn't process orders unless they are sure they can send it on time.

bounce house & balls & curious George theme would work...

I personally would just have a bunch of balls in the yard for kids to play with...the themes seem to be more for the parents at this age...my son is 2.5 years old and so far his 1st & 2nd b-days were all about playing, he could care less if the table cloth matched the plates. :)

Okay...My ma was interesting.... We had three birthday parties in our family. Ma used it as markers of our growth. Five years old (the first year of school, 8 years old (the year we got baptized), and 16 years old (the year we could date). All other birthdays were with family and we could choose the menu and invite one friend to dinner.

Other than that I would say do something OUT of your home that both parent's and children can be involved in. That way parents can watch their own kids and it ends after two hours.

WHen I was a nanny I gave a birthday tea for the 5 year old with her teddy bear. The other kids brought their teddies too. It was sweet... and very PINK!...maybe too old for the one you have now.

Sorry i couldnt be more help, but I realy think a birthday party EVERY single year isn't necessary.

remember that he will have a lot more birthdays before he's through. so don't overdo it to please yourself! :)
use the ball theme! invite one or two other kids over (i read early in my motherhood to invite the number of kids your child is turning that year and it really makes it reasonable!) and simply set out a variety of balls--either in your living room or in a nice area of a park (sand or grass).
Then sit down with them, roll the balls back and forth and have someone take lots of pictures, because this is the kind of age appropriate thing 2s love! they'll be thrilled to have so much adult attention on the floor and will roll themselves silly.
then make a round cake and decorate it like your little guy's favorite ball, set the three kids around it and let them eat cake in any way they'd like! (best done outdoors or on a sheet in the kitchen floor!)
again, take lots of pictures and the three moms or dads who are around get to have a really fun and relaxing time playing with their kids, who will promptly conk out and nap when this is over.
i know it sounds too simple, but if you go big, you have to ask yourself who the party is really for. and then, when he's six and wants to have a live motorcycle jumping through flaming hoops because you've done everything else, what are you gonna say then? :) remember age appropriate. twos need great photos to look at when they are ten. they don't need a whole lot else. have a BALL!

Hi D.,

You can buy one of those indoor/outdoor ball pit's, and have your son and his friends go wild! I have one for my son, and he sure loves jumping and playing with it a lot...I too had my older son's 2nd b'day a Happy fee theme, and he luved it totally, since penguin is his favorite animal..
