What to Do with Dirty Bibs

I use cloth bibs...rinse/wash clean like the others have said. I often use the bib as a washcloth as well..remove, rinse and wash baby off. I then drape over the laundry basket until it is dry enough to go into the basket without mildewing it or the other dirty laundry.

Consider doing away with the cloth bibs....and try Pampers "Bibsters" which are paper bibs that you throw away after each use(like a napkin bib). They come in a box of like 40 or more if I can remember. These were great for traveling too! Highly recommended. I get them at Target in the baby food section.

Don't put them in a closed container - that is why they are molding. Let them air dry - that is what we do with our bibs. They never get moldy.

I rinse all my bibs and cloths, then hang them to dry in the bathroom. Then I put them in the laundry basket the next day when they are dry and add the new day's stuff to the rack. No molding, but then I only have to do one load of towels at the end of the week.

I put mine in a bucket filled with a scoop of oxyclean powder and water. It soaks them until they are ready to wash. You can dump the whole bucket, or if the water is really dirty, I scoop them out and flush the dirty water down the toilet. I do think it has ruined some thing with snaps though if you have bibs that don't velcro. The fabric around the metal snap just gives out. Good luck!

I rinse mine out (just with water so there's no food in them anymore) and hang them on a drying rack right outside my kitchen door. Then when they dry I put them in the normal laundry basket.

sounds like he's a super messy eater if the bibs are molding up. i would use a plastic bib like the previous poster mentioned. wash it when you wash the dishes. then, probably wipe his mouth with a paper towel.

I wash them in the sink with dawn dish soap and hot water, it removes all the food and stains so I don't have to shour all of them at the end of the week, then I lay them on the washer and air dry before I toss them in the hamper so they don't sour!

Use the large plastic type bibs with a pocket at the bottom to catch crumbs. You can buy them at Walmart and the cleanup is just as easy as wiping them off with a wet cloth. You can wash them once in a while just to make sure they are extra clean. I use lots of cloths to wipe up my little ones and I hang them on the side of my laundry basket in the laundry room after I use them. They dry fairly quickly and then I just toss them in the basket until wash day.

Well, I have to do laundry everyday, so there is always a load that a few rags can go into. My advice would obviously be to wash them more often, but to realize that they can be washed with just about anything else you are running. Also, maybe you could put some soapy water into the container that you are using to keep them in, which would help soak out the stains and keep them from getting moldy. But, if you could get into a new routine of doing a load of laundry..even every other day as you dont have a lot of people to wash for, it might help in more areas than just this. Good luck! ~A.~

I use mostly laminate bibs (such as Bumkins) that wipe clean. If they get really messy, I just put them on the washer to go in the next load. As for wipes, I use cloth diapers and wipes, so I use the wipes for DD's face. I just throw them in the diaper pail and they get washed with the next load of diapers. But, you could use disposable wipes as well and throw them away. If you want to keep using a wash rag, just rinse it out after each use and you can hang it up to dry (by a magnetic clip on your refrigerator, over the high chair, etc.) and you can keep using it until laundry day.

That said, I also have a couple terry cloth bibs. I reuse them until they're really messy. Once they get messy, I just lay them by the washer or in the hamper until laundry day.

As far as using bibs, I used the plastic ones from Target (I wasn't sure what kind of bibs you are using). The plastic ones were so much easier than the cloth ones, and they have a little plastic catch-all at the bottom of each bib. They were quite easy to wash down with the dishrag & some dishwashing soap after meals, and then lay them out to dry until the next meal. I then washed them in the laundry every once in a while, and they lasted a very long time! My son is 3.5 and we still have them, but just quit using them about 3-4 months ago (still used for spaghetti and very messy things).

Unfortunately you will just have to do washes daily. Put on low water and you could even do cold wash so it does not cost so much. Good luck!

Use paper towels and throw them away.

Rinse the gunk out, then let them air dry. Wash them as normal.

Hey, Don't put in airtight container - I always just spray with spray and wash and throw in dirty clothes till wash time. that way they won't mold and all stains will come off - also if they are mildue smelling try adding 1/4 cup vinegar to wash and they will come out smelling great.

I have 4 ideas:

1. You could wash them more often. If possible. Just do a small load.

2. After he is finished why dont you rinse them off in the sink. Get all the food off so they do not mold.

3. You could always buy disposable bibs. You could buy the pamper ones or order cheaper online like some plastic ones.

4. Strip him naked other than a diaper and then just clean him up with a rag afterwards first wiping with a diaper wipe to get food off so just the rag is cleaning up the after food wiped off mess.

i lay bibs over the back of the high chair if possible or somewhere where they are not closed up, if they are wadded up or in with other things they will mold, if they are able to dry they will not
