Good Morning Moms!! I am at a loss at what to get my niece/god daughter for Christmas. Her parents have everything that I have thought of. I was thinking maybe a learning toy under $30. from Discovery toy or Babycrazy but I have no clue as my kids are 6 and 5. Any help would be great! Have a Blessed, Peaceful, Day!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well we are going to get her a plastic tea set and some learning books. Thank You for all the great ideas!! I would love to take her for a couple hours...actually we have been trying since she was born and they basically just laugh in our face. It's very sad! How do I explain it to my daughters...but that is another topic. lol. But Thank You for all the wonderful ideas. Happy Holidays!! and Have a Blessed Day!

Most kids who are spoiled rotten want one thing more than any other-- attention. One on one. I always told my family that my son would rather spend time with them doing something fun (zoo, science center, arts & crafts) than have any toy he'd only play with for a few minutes b/c he already had so many.
I recommend taking her somewhere. Experiences are worth so much more than stuff!

Sounds like you have already decided, but here's an idea for the future. You can buy a single share of stock in a child-related company, like Disney. They have a whole website for this:

http://www.oneshare.com/

They can start to watch it when they are old enough and learn the basic ideas behind it. Great way to help them learn to save money too.

HI! It is hard knowing what to get little ones especially when they have a lot. One toy I have seen recently that both my 14 month and 3 ear old LOVED was the Melissa and Doug Slice and Bake Cookie set. It comes with a cookie sheet tube of dough (wooden) and a tube of icing and other accessories. You can separate the Dough which is velcroed together and put it on the pan which also has velcro and then decorate with the icing, also velcro. Not sure I did a good job describing it but you can google it and it is around $20!

Learning Tree has some great educational toys, I love that store and could spend a fortune in there (if I had it)! There are 2 locations, in Corinth Square in Prairie Village, and in Town Center (119th & Nall) in Leawood.

When my daughter was her age, we started working on colors. She might not grasp it right away, but she'll try. So, maybe a gift that helps with that. Different color textured balls, flashcards, books, etc. Learning Tree has a great book for colors too, I can't remember the name but it's by Priddy Books. Simple puzzles with shapes are also a great learning toy.

If you like to buy learning toys (as I do), simple flash cards for toddlers are great. It gets her interacting with others, not focused on a screen by herself. Story books and baby puzzles are great too. Too bad she is spoiled. Her parents will be sorry when she becomes a teen and demands things! God bless.

How about a U.S. Savings Bond? My niece's and nephew are the same way. I usually do this for holidays, birthdays and special occasions. My grandparents always did this for me when I was growing up... they'll have money down the road for college, down payment towards a home or car!

When a child already has "everything," books are a great gift. Most children that age love to look at the pictures and have a grown-up or older child read to them. My 18 month old son goes straight for the bookshelf every morning and won't give up until someone reads to him. Sometimes its even our 3 year old daughter doing the "reading." :) For that age, there are tons of board books that are very sturdy and won't tear easily. There are even sets you can buy that have shapes, numbers, colors, first words, etc. My son also likes the little board books that are based on some of the Nick Jr. characters like Wonder Pets, Dora and Diego, etc.

Savings Bond! You can get a $50 bond for $25. My mom and in-laws have given my kids savings bonds since they were born for birthdays and Christmas. They also get them a handful of toys/clothes. My 3 y.o. already has $1500 in savings bonds. Years from now he'll be able to cash them in and they'll be worth more. Just a thought for a child who has everything...

With my niece who has everything, I've always found she likes the simple gifts best - which works out great for a small budget. Try things that can keep her entertained indoors during the cold - bubbles, a tub you can fill with water or sand, flour, rice etc. and toys to play with in the various mixtures. Chalk and a small chalkboard, big bouncy balls. Check out your local dollar store and go crazy - think of all the fun things you could get her for $30. Best wishes.

Try US Toy. They have tons of educational things. Something about shape sorting or color matching might be good. US toy is located at 435 and state line right behind Gates.

You might also consider a Melissa and Doug puzzle (they have those there).

In the last year, my 2 year olds favorite toys have been her puzzles, grocery cart, musical instruments, and baby dolls.

I think 17 months is a little young for playdough because they tend to eat it.
