What "Weird" Food Do You Eat?

Hi Moms, I posted on Facebook that I was eating a cheese and pickle sandwhich with mayo. I am NOT preggo! Needless to say, I got a lot of responses about how weird that was! Which made me wonder what kind of "weird" food do you or your family like to eat (whether you're pregnant or not!)?

What can I do next?

Thanks moms! I do have to say the raw hamburger comments actually made me gag! :o)

Edit: Mamapedia ovbiously posted this on the home page since I've gotten another 40 responses today (July 13)! These sound pretty interesting, thanks for posting!

I like ketchup on saltine crackers. If you make a 'sandwich' out of it, the ketchup oozes up through the holes---yummo.

I love cold meatloaf sandwiches, sliced cold meatloaf and ketchup on bread.

Our 4-year-old son loves to eat uncooked pasta. I know: Yuck! No, he doesn't have pica or anemia, and his doctor and dentist both said it was OK as long as it was only small pieces. (Little macaroni and shells are OK; spaghetti and lasagna are not.) He has been diagnosed with a sensory processing issue, specifically, he's mainly a "sensory seeker," and this weird (and, in opinion, totally yucko) predilection goes along with that. He's always loved crunchy food. He usually offers his dad and me some, magnanimous and generous little soul he is. :-)
PS: I don't think a cheese, pickle and mayo sandwich is weird at all. When I was in upper elementary school, one of my favorite sandwiches was peanut butter, jelly and sweet pickle, on "Roman Meal" bread! (Remember that brand?) And we always enjoy peanut butter on our waffles, along with maple syrup. :-)

Okay, now here's a post I can relate to......

I am a devout fan of hearts of palm and artichoke hearts. In fact, with both my pregnancies, the only thing that cured my morning sickness was buying vats of these two items from Costco and eating them morning, noon and night.

In college, when I was beyond broke, I used to feed myself quite well with pickles and Doritos Nacho Cheese chips at the local Arco gas station market. Now that's good. Probably not so good for you, but it sure cured my nagging hunger. Cheap too!

Today, I can do quite well with a bowl of steamed spinach, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli. My little girl, now three, LOVES cauliflower. She is a girl after my heart. My older daughter, six, won't touch the stuff.

I love octopus, which is "slimy and gross" to most people. My daughter, who is 4, also loves it. The funny thing is, pretty much everyone I know likes calamari, and for some reason, they think it is very different from octopus, but it's not. My daughter also likes to eat raw Spinach and lettuce without any form of condiments or dressing. We also like to eat chicken dipped in Balsamic vinaigrette. Most people would put ketchup or barbecue sauce on theirs, but we like it like that. Indian goat curry is amazing to me too, but people again are grossed out that I like goat and lamb. I must say, it is offensive whenever I go to a buffet and people simulate vomiting sounds anytime I serve myself lamb or goat, so my advice is, if you don't like someone's choices of food, keep your comments (and sound effects) to yourself.

I don't think that's weird at all! (although I hate mayo..the rest is fine though)
I kinda have a long list, so here it goes!

*Dill pickles with Cheese (Just about any kind will do, but I like sliced American and Colby & Monterey the best!)
*Peanut butter, banana, and honey sandwiches (YUM!)
*Buttermilk waffles with butter and powdered sugar on them
*Buttermilk waffles with peanut butter
*Chocolate chip waffles with whip cream (the kind in the can)
*Banana cereal (I saw that post and said "omg I love that stuff!" lol)
*Grilled cheese sandwich dipped in tomato soup (made with a can of milk instead of water)
*I put salt on my cantaloupe
*Cheese pizza with red French dressing on it
*My boyfriend likes dipping his McDonald's fries in honey, I dip mine in my chocolate milkshake, and my 2 and a half year old dips his fries and chicken nuggets in anything! (i.e. BBQ, ketchup, milk, and that caramel that you get with the apple dippers)

And here's the real kicker that tops it all! The last time I ate this, my friend turned to my b/f at the time and said "Are you sure she's not preggers? 'cause if she isn't, I'd hate to see what she craves when she is!"

*Buttermilk waffle topped with (in this order) peanut butter, dill pickle slices, caramel sauce, and whip cream! (can kind)

I know there's probably more than that, but I can't think of the rest. That, and it's time to get kiddos in bed. Yay free time! lol

PS - Loved your question! I'm thinking about doing something like this...maybe something like "what's your favorite game?" lol

In my household we are "weird" because we try to eat as much as we can organic or all natural. Probably the weirdest thing I like to eat is cottage cheese mixed with ketchup. Aside from that, when we were kids this was also always my favorite (I made it most of the way through all the responses and I did not see anyone mention this one specifically):

Take a piece of lunch meat ham, lay it flat and then spread cream cheese on it. Then, place a dill pickle spear in the middle and roll the ham up around the pickle, the cream cheese will help it stick, but you can also hold it all together with a toothpick. yum. Serve it at parties and your guests will be pleasantly surprised! Also, whenever my daughter is sick and restricted to the BRAT diet, I usually let her break the BRAT monotony with buttered toast topped with powdered sugar, and cinnamon. I also like to eat peanut butter and bacon sandwiches (rarely! very fattening - lol) peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and ketchup on my eggs. my father also used to put butter on his PB&J, but I always had a hard time stomaching that one for some reason. Where do people come up with this stuff? LOL

My dad likes peanut butter and mustard sandwiches. And he always salts his apples as he eats them.

I like peanut butter and banana sandwiches and eating tomatoes by biting straight into them like they were apples. And I love cream cheese and pepper on corn on the cob instead of butter. I occasionally make peanut butter and maple syrup sandwiches or peanut butter and honey, but only as a treat.

When we go to McDonalds and get the kids nuggets with apple dippers, my daughter always likes dipping the nuggets in the caramel sauce that comes with the apples. Weird.

My husband will eat sour kraut on things, which isn't that unusual, but always seems gross to me. :)

I finally read these weird combos.
would like to add to the peanut butter and mayo sand, (instead use miracle whip) and add crushed lays potato chips on white bread. My aunt used to make this for us and we called it a "Kathy Special"

When I would have slumber parties as a teen we seemed to eat all night.. and one thing we made was pizza, using white bread spread with ketchup a slice of american cheese and sprinkle with oregano, place under broiler until slightly browned. Yummmmmm You must watch it because it cooks fast!!

I've got a list of "weird" eats of my own. I, too, like peanut butter and mayo sandwiches (altho I prefer Miracle Whip type salad dressing rather than outright mayo). As a youngster, I used to put all sorts of things on my peanut butter and mayo sandwiches; everything from lunch meats to sugar. I'm constantly drinking hot tea (yes, even in the heat of the HOT summers we have down here) and I love to dip saltine crackers in my tea. My daughter also picked up the saltine in tea habit (she's now 16, and still doing it). I eat salt on my cantaloupe and watermelon, and put sugar on nice ripe (juicey) tomatoes. MMMMMmmmm Yum! This is all I can think of at the moment, but I assure you there are many, many more weird concoctions awaiting my palate in the kitchen.

To Nicole H. from San Marcos;
Cool coincedence - my grandmother made "bananas w/peanuts" every year for Thanksgiving (and only Thanksgiving!) :) It is still a family tradition for us. We cut the bananas in quarters, roll in mayo (miracle whip, actually - I usually like mayo best, but this recipe requires miracle whip) and then roll in crushed peanuts. They do sound weird, but are really yummy.

So far nothing I read seemed weird to my palette it's everyone's choice to eat whatever their heart desire according to the culture they grew up in.
But I luv this question and would like to add my favorites that I use to eat
I use to eat Fried Goat Brain with cilantro/ jalapenos salt and pepper/ and Goat tongue with the same receipe
I eat Goat Trotters once a year / My hubbies favorite / never cared for it before marriage
I have eaten Goat Tripes but they stink up the house so don't anymore
My daughter use to eat Trotters and Tripes when little but now is grossed out of it / She just luvs adding Yogurt to everything she eats.. as i have a tendency of making the food spicy at times........
After watching Andrew Zimmerman in Bizarre food I dared myself to eat Goat Eyes which accrd. to him is a delicacy which use to be my Grandma's fav too...but couldn't do it........
I have tried Deep fried Prawn heads and I can suck on small deep fried fish heads as well extremely delicious
I use to eat Goat Kidneys/ Liver/ Heart / Gall Bladder and Goat Head all use to by my favorite
But now other then Trotters.. we don't eat the delicacies anymore as they are high in cholesterol and don't appeal to me anymore....

Hope I didn't gross you guys out too much..

PB&J sandwiches with Lays potato chips

Butter sandwiches (white bread + butter)

Smoked oysters on saltines (haven't had this since I was a teenager and became fat/calorie-conscious, but mmmm, I used to be able to make a meal out of those...)

Oatmeal "soup" (make oatmeal, melt a big pat of butter in it, put in a bunch of sugar, then pour in enough milk to make it really soupy - when yellow streaks from the melted butter start swimming in the milk, it's just right. I like to alternate spoonfuls of the warm/sugary/buttery milk with the oatmeal - it sounds weird but is SO good. My husband thinks this is gross because he likes his oatmeal so thick it sticks to the roof of your mouth - not me!)

My mom loves to eat raw potatoes and cold mashed potatoes straight from the fridge (this one I think is pretty gross!)
