When Should I Do a Test?

My menstrual cycle has been royally messed up for about 9 months. It was going back and forth between 24 and 32 days, and then I wasn't ovulating, and then once I started ovulating again, it's more like it's old self, between 26-29 days. Mind you, I swear that one of the months I had a 32 day cycle I was pregnant (my boobs eve leaked for the first time in over 12 months!)....But negative tests were all that came back. Sooooooo.......

We tried really hard this month to get pregnant. Last Sunday I had discharge, and most likely was ovulating, but then on Monday I had a menstrual cramp --this has happened to me before, where I ovulate and then start PMS immediately. I then had the super grumps for most of the week, and then yesterday morning I woke with lower back pain and lower abdominal pain. I am still waiting for my period, but I also had a little more discharge yesterday, and usually that means my period should be here soon. I had thought I'd get it around lunch today. I looked it up and you can be pregnant and still have PMS.....

So I keep hoping I am pregnant, but I don't want to think this way and end up on the floor crying again this month. My other three pregnancies happened immediately (with two of them, one sexual encounter was all it took)...things are so different this time around, since my period is all messed up.... I don't want to see another negative test.

Yet, I can't get any of this out of my mind, and seeing pregnant ladies everywhere isn't helping ;-) So at what point do I do a test? I'm on day 25 now. Do I wait till day 29, 30? What? Usually my PMS last 5-7 days. It will be a week tomorrow. Maybe do a test the next day? Or do I just not do a test at all? Hubby is away in Hong Kong till Friday. Should I just wait till Friday and do a test before he gets home?

URGGGGG I hate this.

So What Happened?

I had more discharge this morning and im super exhausted.

Couldn't wait. I did the test the day I posted this. I'm thinking the discharge I had was the start of implantation, not my period!

Im pregnant.

I think you should wait until Friday to take the test.

Are you using an ovulation predictor kit? Since your period is messed up, you might not be ovulating at the normal time.

Best wishes!

ETA: Congrats! I'm so happy for you!

Okay so last Sunday you ovulated right? So that means it's been a week. Too early to test yet. This is how it works. If you ovulated last Sunday and the egg was fertilized (fingers crossed!) Then it takes around a week (give or take a day or two) for the egg to implant into your uterus. You said you have some cramping yesterday and that very well could have been implantation cramping. Once the egg has implanted it takes about week or at the very soonest 5 days before your body will produce enough hormones for a positive pregnancy test. So if the egg implanted yesterday then by Friday you could see a positive test. I know it's hard to wait but wait until then. Good luck to you!!!

I think I would just put it out of my mind and when you are a couple of months over due take a test. You might want to go have a check up anyway. Polyps and other stuff can happen and mess all kinds of stuff up. It would be good to have a complete ladies visit done just to be sure.

read the book "taking charge of your fertility" learn about your body and time of the month. It's a book you can read in a day or two and trust me it will help you out a lot!

ETA: Congrats! When did you finally do the test? Hope your pregnancy is joyful and uneventful.

Too early right now, if there is a fertilized egg it is likely not even implanted yet, or just barely so. Implantation usually occurs 7-10 after ovulation/fertilization. Then you need a few more days for enough hormone to be present to be detected by a test. If it were me I would wait at least a week from now. I like to give myself plenty of time between ovulation and testing in an effort to avoid a false negative from testing too early. I definitely wouldn't test before friday, and if you get a neg on fri I would still retest a few days later. Wishing you the best!
