I've had really good luck with Dermologica "Night Bright". It even faded the freckle I've had and the tip of my nose since I was a child. It's a bit on the pricey side but you use so little it lasts a long time. Dermologica products are available at most beauty supply stores. Good Luck!

Hi J.. I had a bad age spot at the top side of my nose. I bought some of that Porecelana (sold in the drug store over the counter) I religiously applied it to the spot for about 3 weeks and all of a sudden one day it was gone.

This might sound weird but it works, is safe and best of all CHEAP!!! Get some Hydrogen Peroxide and soak the end of a Qtip in it and simply put it on the age spot before you go to bed at night and before you put your makeup on in the morning. Good luck!

Hi J.,
I get them removed at the dermatologist's office. They use a little laser and zap them. They turn white for a few days, and then go away! It is a cosmetic procedure, however my doctor manages to bill it as "removing pre-cancerous skin" or something, which makes it a procedure insurance will cover.

They do make skin whitening creams that really do work, however they can contain ingredients (hydro-quinone, I think) that are processed through your liver, so be careful.

Meanwhile, wear your sunscreen every day, even if you don't go outside! (Believe it or not, fluorescent light bulbs give off UVA rays, which do not burn you, but do age your skin.)

Dear J.,
There are a lot of products that you can buy over the counter that contain hydroquinone (pronounced hydrokinone). It helps bleach dark spots on the skin and is in many facial creams. Use a good SPF when in the sun.
My mom was getting age spots on her hands so she rubbed lemom on them. It's natural and inexpensive and worth a try. Just be sure you don't get any of the juice in your eyes.

A great line of products you can use are Jan Marini Skin Care. I would recommend getting the lightening gel. A great place to purchase it is the Skin Store online. The web address is www.skinstore.com. The best thing is that they do not charge shipping fees and it is a local company in Rancho Cordova. You will need to fill out a questionaire as you need a Esthetician to recommend the product. It only takes a few minutes.

Hi J.,

Jafra carries a product called Pigment Lightening Pen. The prduct contains a potent blend of mallow, peppermint & melissa extracts. Does not contain hydroguinone. The active botanical ingredients produce a skin lightening effect and help reduce the color and size of pigmentation spots. It is clinically, allergy, irritancy and dermatologist tested.
Please contact me directly if you're interested, as an independent Jafra consultant, I'd be very happy to help you.

It's not a cheap option but my dermotologist "freezes" what I guess are age spots. They appeared after pregnancies. Works like a charm.

I don't have that, but am curious about the sewing. I like to mend, and want to learn to add pockets to garments without them.
Have you ever done that? I'm talking in-seam pockets on skirts & dresses and casual pants....

Hi J.. I am a BeautiControl consultant specializing in spa treatments, personalized skin care, and beauty needs. We carry a couple of products that help with age spots. You can look on my website for more details than what I've included below, or we could schedule a time to get together and you can actually try them if you are close to me.

I recommend maintaining the skin you have, repairing the damage that's already been done, and prevent any further damage from happening. In addition to a daily skin care regimen, I would recommend microderm abrasion to get rid of dead skin cells (including the age spot areas), use a product called Regeneration Reprogram to reprogram the cells to produce "good cells" instead of duplicating the "bad cells" (i.e. age spots, etc). And another one that is specific to age spots is Cell Block-C® Intensive Brightening Elixir that contains exclusive Tri-C Complex™ antioxidant blend in a peptide delivery system to help increase skin clarity and radiance, reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation including age spots and freckles, and help protect skin from future damage.

You can check them out at www.beautipage.com.randimoody

I know you'll find the products to be of excellent quality at realistic prices, and are treatments you can do yourself at home with great results.

Let me know how I can help you!

Hi J.!

My mom and aunt have age spots on their faces, as well. They use me for their make-up because I am a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. We use the Even Complexion Essence on their faces. I see my mom almost daily, and after using the product for about a year, the spot does actually seem to be fading. I truly didn't notice the fading until recently. My mom SWEARS it is helping her. She said the difference with and without it, is very obvious to her.

Now recently, someone told her to rub the inside of a banana peel for 2 minutes on the spot :o) She just started that, so I haven't noticed a difference yet :o)

Well, I hope something I've said has helped you in some small way.

Hi. I've had the same problem. I'm trying out the Oil of Olay product made for evening skin tones, mainly because
it's at the grocery so easy to get with my 3 kids in tow. I just saw an ad for a new product from Clinique called Even Better Skin Tone corrector which I may try as well. I've been using the Oil of Olay for 3 weeks and am starting to see improvement as well as just softer skin. I've also been making sure to use facial sunblock each and every day so I don't get any more!!!!

Laser treatment is an excellent and painless method of eliminating of age spots or any other type of skin irregularities including mild wrinkles, acne scars, and damage from sun exposure. It is also much faster than creams and has very little "down time". The ActiveFX laser used at our clinic actually resurfaces and tightens the skin, while simultaneously stimulating new natural collagen production. You can read about it in more detail at

Hello J.,

The Even Complexion Essence from Mary Kay is a non-bleaching product. It will help lighten the area as the other mom mentioned. I have customers who use it to lighten their freckles and other spots and they have seen results. If you would like further information please do hesitate to contact one of us.

To get rid of age spots you have to apply some remedies like,

Lemon Juice: Lemon Juice acts as bleach and is a regular component of many fairness and bleaching creams. It must be applied at the age spots twice a day. According to the Doctors Book of Home Remedy, when this treatment is given for six to eight weeks, the age spots will surely begin to disappear.

Onion and Apple Cider Vinegar: Blend an onion and drain it with the help of strainer in a bowl. Mix an equal amount of apple cider vinegar to this and apply over the spots by a cotton swab dipped in this decoction. This has also shown improved results in 5 to 6 months.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Few drops of apple cider vinegar can be added to a glass of water and drunk. One can add honey to refine the taste.

Aloe Vera Juice: Aloe Vera is found to have tremendous potential in treating dermatological situations like burns etc. Gel or juice obtained from Aloe Vera can be directly rubbed on spotted regions to get rid of them.

Castor Oil: These age spots are sometimes rough in texture. If this is the case, one can apply castor oil twice a day for few months to see improvement in the appearance of the same.

Hi J.!

How I hate age spots!! I'll tell you what I know:

Always wear a wide-brim hat in the sun.

If it's overcast and you're going to be out gardening, wear it anyway because we are still at risk for skin cancer, I learned.

Wear sun block ONLY with titanium dioxide or zinc. There's one other that is acceptable...Mex something. A young man with had skin cancer joked with the interviewer, "If you can't say the ingredient, don't use it." I use Bullfrog, $10.00. Whole Foods has one by Dr. T...something for $20.00. It's a well known brand in their lotions section. The man said the inside of ears must NOT be forgotten (place skin cancer is being found now). I also learned lately that the scalp is the most common place skin cancer is found. I have so many Neutragena blocks, etc., but now I am going to trust mainly in what the man shared on KRON Sat. morning.

Primary physicians will give you an RX for age spots. It plugs away at them. Dermatologists can write one for $75.00 that is amazing!! It's so expensive, but it really shows results!

Wear long sleeves or sun protection gear whenever you can take the heat. I bought an SPF 20 swimsuit cover online. Lorraines is the site I bought it from. The San Diego hat company is closing, and their last items are being sold.

I would suggest you wear gloves gardening. Your hands might be next. Wear gloves while driving. Bike gloves are easy to get on and off.

Hope you're having a great summer!

Best,
G.
