YMCA Or 24 Hour Fitness

I am looking to join a gym and wanted other mommy's opinions before I take the plunge. I am considering either Northpark YMCA or the 24 Hour Fitness in Keller with the kids club. I need some place that I am able to drop the kids off while I work out. Price is somewhat of a factor, but I will pay more for the nicer, cleaner kids area. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Check out what time child care is available at the YMCA first. I joined the one by me but their childcare wasn't open from 11:30 am til 5:00 pm. That was pretty inconvenient for me.I ended up cancelling my membership and joined Lifetime.

We've been happy with Northpark, now if only my 10 month old would get over the not liking being with anyone other than Mommy or Daddy phase. Family membership (if you're a Ft. Worth resident) is $61 a month and that includes use of the child care without an extra fee. Does not include swim lessons/soccer/baseball or basketball for the kids. The play area has always been very clean and well taken care of and all the child care workers are kid and parent friendly :) They always have coloring sheets etc for the kids and usually a video going. The outside play area gets used as much as it can during Texas summers (if it's too hot they don't go out) and shoes and socks are required for outside play. They have a video monitor so you can see what's going on when you're on the fitness floor. They do have limited hours, open at 8 then break around lunch until late afternoon and there are holidays when the child care area is not open (not sure if that's the case with 24hr fitness as well).

The 24 Hour Fitness kids club is amazing and can't be beat! They have all day hours, a ten kid to one attendant ratio, tons of things for the kids to do and staff that actually care about entertaining your children.

I've had trouble with the daycare at 24. I've found the girls coloring and not watching the kids. They couldn't even see the kids from where they were sitting. I have found paper in my 13 mo. olds mouth when I picked him up. Today I went to pick him up and he was lost! Yes lost! We couldn't find him. Finally they unlocked the bathroom door and he was in there playing in the toilet. Thank God he hadn't fallen in.

Hi! We go to the Northpark YMCA a few times a week and really like it. They were offering no enrollment fee. Not sure if they still are. The nice thing is, they have the pool, summer camps and sports for the kids during the year (for an additional cost but discounted for members) Their Treadmills are really awesome too. That's one reason we go to this YMCA and not others, even though our membership allows us to go to the others if we choose too. Another nice thing is if you go on vacation you can still go to the other YMCA's and get in your work out. And their kids area is really nice, not sure how old your kids are but mine is 3 and she loves the play area, they can even go outside and play.. and for the little kids they have an area blocked off just for them. Another nice thing is there's no contracts like alot of gyms seem to have. Good Luck.

Edited to add hours- their child care is from 8am-1pm then again 4pm-8pm.

We are members at the Northpark YMCA and my kids love going to the childcare. It is a big, spacious room. They often have crafts or other activities for them to do (if they choose to). They have the outside playground when weather allows. Another plus is the splash park/pool. This is a plus that most gyms can't offer. Many times we go and I work out, then pick up the kids for a quick swim. When my daughter was an infant, I could even leave my daughter in the childcare while I took my son to swim. We've been very pleased overall with Northpark Y.

I go to the 24 Hr in Keller. I've used the KidsClub there. It is nice, large, there are attendants to watch the kids and the hours aren't bad. My daughter (who is 2yr) has no problem being left there and doesn't always want to leave! :) Best of luck with whatever you choose!
