4 Year Old Girl Allergic to Dairy

Los Angeles, CA

hi my daughters gastroenterologist says my daughter is allergic to dairy. she has been complaining for many months of stomach aches at different times of the day. we have been seeing this dr. now for a couple of months. he told me to give her benefiber and take away dairy. so i did it. she still intermintantly complains. he said the yesterday you can still have bowel irritation. he asked my four year old when we first started seeing him, where does it hurt...so she rubs her whole belly and then he askes my daughter what does it feel like? she said it just hurts sometimes. he asks how does it hurt and what does the pain feel like. she could not describe it. hello, she is 4 y/o. he ran some fecal and blood tests and they were fine. but, i am still concerned because how does he know it is dairy? he hasnt had any further testing. has anyone experienced anything like this and can anyone give me advise please. i am worried it is something more serious. thanks

Coughing

Austin, TX

My 3 year old started a cough 2 days ago. It is very dry and seems only to get worse when laying down. I know that this is due to drainage from allergies, we have given her Zyrtec the passed 2 days. Her cough was so persistent at night that we took her to the ER...yes maybe a little over reacted. The doc. at ER said NOTHING is wrong. She might have a little virus causing the cough, but of course didn't reccommend any OTC for cough and said that the cough is healthy and it is not good to suppress. He prescribed her cough medicine with codene, just 2 doses of 1 teaspoon every 4 hours. She slept fine last night. Went to daycare today and daycare called saying cough is really bad and now she is complaining of stomach and throat hurting. No fever, good appetite, drinking great, playing, not asthmatic, lungs, sinuses, ears, everything good no other symptoms except the COUGH. Any suggestions to soothe her cough while this virus runs it's course? Cool or warm vaporizer?

I Am Wondering If My 16 Month Old Has Allergies, Green Runny Nose off and On

Colorado Springs, CO

My 16 month old daughter has had a green runny nose for awhile (5 weeks). She was seen by her doctor, but she said it is something she will grow out (up to 2 years) of due to change in the altitude. We moved from CA (Bay Area the end of October) and now we live in Colorado. I have been trying to limit whole milk, but we still give her some cheese yogurt, but it doesn't seem to matter. My mom suggested I try rice milk. Has anyone else done this and noticed a change? My daughter did start whole milk soon after we moved so I am not sure if it a combination of the milk and the change in altitude has caused her green runny nose. She has a runny nose and often it is green, some days it is clear. Thanks for any advice! N.

I Think It's an Allergic Reaction to Carrots

Dallas, TX

My 19 mo daughter ran a low grade fever this morning and has had bouts of diarrhea today. I have given her tylenol for the fever and it seems to have gone away. Still, her bottom is VERY raw, VERY swollen, and VERY red. She is telling me it hurts. I am not sure if this is a stomach flu or a reaction to the raw carrots she ate yesterday. Has anyone had this type of thing happen with a food allergy? What do you use to take the hurt away on her bottom? Please HELP!!!!

Need Advice for Infant Skin Condition

Dallas, TX

My son is 3 months old and has very sensitive skin. He has had a red rash on his legs and arms for over a month. My pediatrician says that he just has sensitive skin and gave me samples of lotions to try. I then went to a dermatologist and he said it was just "prickly heat" aka "heat rash" and was not an allergy. He also said that it was not any soaps that I was using and that I should just keep him cool and dry. He also suggested using mild bar soap such as Ivory or Jergen as they are less drying than the baby soaps. I have used Dreft but it is very expensive so I switched to All Free & Clear (clothing Detergent) for all of the family clothes. I have tried Giggles, J&J, and even Aveno free & clear bath wash for babies. I have tried the lotions that the Dr gave and they made the rash worse. I have also switched to Jergens bar of soap for the bath and stopped using any lotions. Nothing has changed; my son still has horrible patch like rashes on his legs and arms. He doesn't seem to get the rashes on his back, stomach, or stomach which is interesting. We don't go outside very much and keep our house at around 72 degrees so I can't understand of why he would have a heat rash. Anyone else experience something similar or have any ideas or suggestions?

Seeking Advice on Toddlers Red Cheeks

Chicago, IL

My son is 31 months old and more often than not he gets red rosy cheeks. In the winter they get dry and rough. I told my pediatrician about it but she chalks it off as dry skin and tells me to put Vaseline on them. I've put Vaseline, aquaflor, and just a damp wash cloth to clean them. Nothing is working. I don't know if it's a milk allergy but he’s been asking for milk like crazy these days. I just started buying soy to see what happens. Anyone have this problem?

Seeking Bakery to Make Allergen-free Birthday Cake

Chicago, IL

Does anybody know of any bakeries in the south or SW suburbs that make cakes for people with food allergies? My son is 3, and allergic to wheat, eggs, milk, barley, and nuts. I usually make him a cake but they aren't always that tasty or are very heavy in texture. I have found ingredients from Whole Foods, but I would love to find a place that can decorate it really cute like a real cake. Hopefully someday he'll outgrow his allergies, but for now I'm hoping to find a place to help. Some places will make gluten free, but he has so many other food allergies that it is hard to find a place. I called 2 places in Naperville and 1 in Plainfield, but they didn't make any. Thank you!

Stuffy Nose Every Night?

Charlottesville, VA

For the past week or so my son (who is almost 1 year) has been so stuffed up at night. I just recently took him to an allergist doctor, who helped us figure out that he is allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, fish, and peanuts. I am still nursing him three times a day and have not really eaten any diary product since he was three months because of him getting so stuffed up back then. It helped him a lot for me to do this, but I did not know he was allergic to the other foods. The doctor said though that it should not matter what I eat, it shouldn't effected him too much. So I have not cut out the other foods. But I didn't know if he was getting stuffed up now because of the change in seasons and the ragweed out right now. It has been getting so frustrating at night because he has such a hard time breathing through his nose. Do you have any suggestions? Anybody else go through this? Thanks in advance!
