I am four months pregnant and my doctor recommends an amnio. I'm 35 and have had 2 miscarriages and have one baby boy (age 2). I had an amnio before and it was a horrible experience. I just was in the office on Saturday for an amnio for this pregnancy and it was even worse than my last experience! After he used two needles and I had one contraction, he stopped and said I needed to come back in a week when there was more fluid built up. He was unable to break through the membrane. (Has this ever happened to anyone?) After I began crying hysterically and telling him there was no way I was coming back, he suggested to my husband that we go for a Level II ultrasound. Does anyone know what this is about and what kind of info it will give me?

I am re asking this question in case anyone has advice and missed it the first time. I am wondering if anyone has had a older child present for their c-section? My daughter is 11 1/2 and I want to ask her if she would like to be there to see her new sibbling born. I know people do this with a regular birth but has anyone done this with a c-section. My doctor did say he would be fine with her being there. Any thoughts? Good idea, bad idea? Tell me.

My 10 y.o. dd has been suffering from yeast infections for months. The diflucan helps a little, but not enough. She's tried yogurt and supplements, and been to the doctor at least 4 times. She has arthritis (immune disorder). It started when she was on antibiotics for several ear infections. I know that yeast infections at this age are fairly rare, but it really does seem to be a yeast infection (based on the doctors). Anyone know something to try, or would a gyn or some other specialist be a good choice?

I am not officially diagnosed with it but the signs are all there and when I treat it with all the basics, (evening primrose, no caffeine, etc.) it helps. It's horribly painful and I've had it for 8 years now. We are done having kids and I'm not opposed to permanent things. I have gotten the run around and a ton of different advice from different doctors. Does anyone know of a specialist or a good doctor or even advice on the best way of tackling this issue?

I read a request about a mom that got an IUD put in at her 6 week checkup. My doctor said I cannot get it until I get my period, which I thought strange since the literature he gave me said it's safe to use while breastfeeding. I had to stop nursing about 6 or 7 weeks ago because I was drying up, and I still haven't gotten my period. Has anyone elses doctor told them they had to wait until they got their period to get the IUD?

I am looking for a good OB/GYN that actually listens and does not just want to prescribe meds for symptoms. Here is the deal, I had a hysterectomy in 2005 because of endo, well now I am having MAJOR cramps again and my regular doc thinks it could be endo, but the only way to accurately diagnose endo is a laprascopy. Well I went to an OB/GYN and after hearing my symptoms, she wanted to put me on birth control pills. I do not want to just take the pill because SHE THINKS it could be endo, especially since I finally have my high blood pressure under control, I do not want to have to be on a domino effect of meds. So if anyone knows a GREAT OB/GYN that actually listens, I would appreciate some referrals. I have UnitedHealth Care insurance and live in McKinney, but I would be fine with someone in Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and maybe even Dallas.
Thanks in advance....

I am looking for a doctor who is open minded to alternative medicine, has a warm bedside manner (I could not believe some of the doctors I met-so clinical and business like. Not a good match for me at all) and who is well informed w/ current research and trends.

Hi
My name is Rosy and I just move to Dallas from Los Angeles, CA and just found out that I am pregnant. I am looking for a doctor in the Dallas area that performs or is OK with VBAC's (vaginal birth after c-section) since I've had a c-section but I just refuse to have another one if it's not necessary.
I've found that most(if not all) do not take patients who want to VBAC and I've been thinking of going back to California only to deliver since I've spoken to my old doctor and I know he will take me for VBAC but it's a long way only to deliver then come back here.
Please help! I've been calling almost all the doctors and they don't know who to refer me to but I'm sure there's got to be someone out there that has gone through the same that migth have found that perfect doctor.

My previous OB moved out of state and she recommended Dr Wright's office. I am 20 weeks pregnant and I have been seeing Dr Wright for care. Dr Wright has been wonderful and she has a great bedside manner. However, I am not happy with the nursing staff at this office. I feel they are rude and abrupt on the phone. They also tend to start asking my history in the middle of the hallway, no matter who is around. The first visit at this office, the nurse did not even introduce herself to me, but instead started to rapid fire questions at me. I could barely keep up. They call your name to come back into the exam room through the door by the reception area (without even opening the door to the hallway). I recently had a scare when I fell, so I called to speak with the nurse. She treated me like I was a child who talked down to me. I am just not comfortable with their staff. I have also heard about Dr Chen and Dr Carver. Does anyone have experience with these doctors? What do you think about their staff? Please tell me about your experiences with both offices. I am a pediatric nurse, so I am very familiar with how offices work and how nurses should conduct themselves. Thanks for any information.

Has anyone used the Mirena IUD? I talked to my doctor about it and it sounds like exactly what I am looking for, but it almost sounds too good! Has anyone had any bad side effects, etc? We do not want any more kids, but since we are only in our 20's, I don't want my husband to get a vasectomy quite yet...maybe we'll change our minds in a few years?!

Hi, I am currently in my 29th week of my second pregnancy and I had a very weird experience last night. I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep when my left hand went completely numb. Right after that the left side of my face went numb including inside my mouth. It lasted about 10 minutes then went away. I never experienced this with my first pregnancy and maybe they aren't even related. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and what it is? I am a bit paranoid and am thinking of the symptoms of a stroke. Any info. will help, thank you.

Yesterday I noticed something felt different and discovered that it seemed like my vaginal walls had "fallen". I told my mom about it and she said it sounded like a prolapsed uterus and to call the ob/gyn on Monday morning. I delivered a 10 lb. baby last July-my second child. I have been carrying him aroud a lot ever since and now he's at 30 lbs. I am at a normal weight. I've read that being overweight can contribute to this problem. My mom is coming to help me tomorrow, so I don't have to lift him until I find out if it is ok or not(husband out of town). Has anyone experienced this or something like it or have any advice for me? I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not overly concerned, but a little worried. Thanks in advance.

I am pregnant (currently at 23weeks) with our second child. My first pregnancy was completely normal without any complications. This time, as a routine test, my OB ordered for me to take the 1 hour Glucose tolerance test. The upper limit of normal is 140 and my result came back at 141. So, now my doctor wants me to go ahead and take the full 3 hour test. I am quite nervous that I have developed gestational diabetes. I have a “normal” weight of 142 pounds; have only gained 13 pounds so far during this pregnancy. I have no history of diabetes in my family, and am not a diabetic myself, nor did I develop diabetes with my first pregnancy. I am wondering if there are any other moms out there who “failed” the first screening 1 hour glucose tolerance test, but then ended up having a normal 3 hour glucose tolerance test, hence not being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Please help, I am quite nervous.

I am looking for a doctor that can respect that I have a right to ask questions and make choices about my own body without bullying, guilt tripping and scare tactics. I'm the one who gets to live with the choice. I should have the right to at least research what I'm agreeing to. I just posted a question yesterday and got wonderful responses, thank you! But now I am wondering if anyone has had the same or similar amnio experience that I had. I am 35 and on my fourth pregnancy (I am 17 weeks pregnant this Thursday). I have had 2 miscarriages - one very late in the pregnancy and one very early. My dr. recommended an amnio and though I dreaded it, I went in for the procedure this past Saturday. After 2 needles going in and experiencing one contraction and tons of discomfort, my doctor said I needed to come back in a week when more fluid had built up. He was unable to break through the membrane. I am so upset and do not want to go through this again, though i know I'm being a bit of a baby, as the pain is not unbearable, it is just more emotional and scary. I AM doing the 2nd amnio with a different doctor, but I'm just wondering - has this ever happened to anyone else?

my mom has believed for years that there is a direct link between prenatal ultrasounds/ sonograms and infant ear infections. Of course sonograms weren't used routinely when she was having babies(and babies still got ear infections). I've done a bit of research on the subject online but can't really find the results for major studies. One doctor has said that there is no link between the two. I am @15wks right now and have had a sonogram at my previous appointments but I'm not sure why. I'm not a high risk and both baby and I are perfectly healthy. I know the doctors wouldn't risk the health of my baby; so I know that they believe that ultrasounds are perfectly healthy. I would love to hear if anyone has the same concerns or who has more information on the subject. Did you have routine sonograms and have a child who suffered chronic ear infections? Thanks

I am 6 weeks PG with my second child. While I am really excited, I am concerened about my health. I was about 30 lbs. overweight when I got pregnant with my son (he is now 15 mos.) and I gained about 30 with him, never really lost the baby weight and have continued to pile on the lbs. I feed him very healthfully, but I am bad about convinence foods for myself. I am now probably 80 lbs. over and not to mention on a tall/large frame. I am concerned about having to go on bedrest as that is not an option with a very active toddler. I don't go to the doc until Feb 13. I am also very queezy, which I was not with my my other pregnancy. Has anyone else gone through preganancy when they were already overweight? What can you tell me about your experience? My friend was due on March 15 and about 2 weeks ago she was put on bed rest for unexplained spotting. Anyway, she gave birth today. I know very little because her sister in law let a bunch of us know very quickly because she didn't want to speak to anyone but from what I got..........the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and he was born without a heart beat. He is currently on a respirator. That's all we know and I'm panicking. I know we have some Mom's out there in the health care industry or maybe who have had such experiences? I just wonder what the prognosis is. Does this baby have a good chance of making it or is this as bad as it sounds to me. I'm so worried about her and her new little baby. I am 5 months pregnant and have been using Phenergen for approximately 6 weeks on a regular basis. It has been the ONLY thing to help me with the severe nausea. I am expecting my 4th and have never had to take medication with my other three pregnancies. So I am nervous about taking this medication. Well I had a mother tell me that this medication causes Autism and Asburgers Syndrome which of course scared me. I have asked the pharmacists and they have told me that they know of no studies or results claiming that fact. I have an appointment this Tuesday and will be asking my Dr again, but I wanted to get other mothers opinions. Have you used this? Did you have any problems with it? Thank you for reading my question.
