E Where to Have My Baby's First Birthday

My son turns 1 in March and I need some ideas for his first birthday party, It won't be anything big, it will be just some family and few friends. We live in an apartment, so I prefer if possible to have the birthday party somewhere else, with a little more room and more seating. We aren't trying to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars either as it's the 1st birthday. I rather wait until our son is older and knows. Any suggestions would be great. Have You Ever Flown with a Pack 'N' Play?

We are flying out of town soon and are planning to bring my son's pack 'n' play for him to sleep in. Has anyone else done this? If so, do you check the pack 'n' play as checked luggage, or do you bring it as carry-on? If you check it, do you have to cover it with something in addition to zipping it into the cover it comes with? Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!

Best Shower Gift

My niece is having her baby shower in a few weeks and I'm going back and forth on what to get her. I'm torn between a Pack N Play or a diaper bag full of useful things (diapers, wipes, pacifier, swaddle blankets, etc). I have two kiddos and never had a Pack N Play.
