When to Tell 4 Year Old About Pregnancy

Hello Ladies, I am 10 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I have a 4 year old and a 2 1/2 half year old. I recently experienced 2 miscarraiges, one in October at 6 weeks and the other in February at apx 4 weeks. Also almost a year ago I lost my mother in law, whom we were all very close with especially my 4 year old daughter. Since then she continues to ask a lot of detailed questions in regards to death. She seems okay with everything, no major problems with her since then, but just very curious. Due to this and the fact that I have had 2...

3 Year Old Cries All Day at Preschool

My 3 year old daughter cries all day in preschool saying that she misses her Mommy. It has been 4 weeks now -(she goes twice a week for 2 1/2 hrs a day), and it's not getting any better. Does anyone have any suggestions? She does not play at recess, just sits by herself with her head down (saying that she misses me and her younger sister) and won't eat the snack or have any juice citing the same reason. The teacher recommended trying to set up a playdate with another little girl in the class but it is so hectic at drop off and pick up...

Baby #2 Due in 3 Weeks- How to Talk to 3 Year Old About Being in the Hospital

Hello. I am due to have my second baby in about 3 weeks and have been trying to figure out a the best way to tell my 3 year old daughter that I will be in the hospital for a day or two giving birth. I am looking for suggestions on a way in which she will understand the "reality" of coming home with a new baby. She is very excited to meet our new baby but I imagine it is going to be different once the new baby arrives. She is very much our "focus" and we give all of our time and love to her now- which of course will be shared very soon....

4 Year Old Needs to Go to Preschool...

Hi Moms~ I am having trouble deciding about preschool and I could use some advice, particularly from those of you with a background in child development! My 4 year old is definitely ready for preschool. Problem is, he is very shy and hesitant to join a group of children or talk to another child, but once he does, he has a ball! I am expecting a huge battle. He has recently changed his view from "I don't want to grow up" to "I can't wait to go to school", but he is often brave right up until the last second, then chickens out! My...

4 Year Old Not Sitting in Time Out

My 4 year old has recently begun to run the other direction when I try to put her in time out for something she has done. She will run and try to get me to chase her, and will stand on the other side of the room with her arms crossed and give me a sassy look. She has been doing increasingly in the last month. I am 36 weeks pregnant, so I can't continue to repeatedly carry her to time out and set her down until she finally stays there (like 'Nanny Jo' suggests). This is so frustrating and usually ends up with me yelling YOU ARE IN TIME OUT...

Potty Training NOT Going Well with 3 Year Old

Hi All! We are trying to potty train our 3 year old right now. This is NOT the first attempt we have made at this. I tried starting when he was 2 and he just didn't seem ready. I tried again at 2-1/2 and seemed to be making a little headway and then he really began to fight it. He turned 3 in February and I know he is ready this time, but he is fighting it tooth and nail. Every now and then he will get excited and want to sit on the potty, but rarely does anything happen. When I try to get him to sit on the potty at regular intervals...

3 Year Old Behavior...

Hello there...I am looking for new tricks to have up my sleeve when dealing with my 3 year old daughter. As of late she has taken to shrieeking when put on a time out. I also have not been able to get her to say "I'm sorry for _____" once she's out of her time out. She flat out refuses and walks away or says she "can't". She also has taken to talking or raising her voice over mine to repeat herself when told "no" in getting something. This she picked up from me due to my using it when she started repeating herself so say "noooooo" over her....

Unruly 3 Year Old

I wrote a couple of weeks ago and i really need some advise. My 3 year old girl is completely out of control. She does not listen to anyone, she is horribly bratty, and has no regard for anyone else. When we are with other children, she will rip toys away from them, push them, and is ALWAYS the boss. But, she is the first to cry when someone else does something to her that she doesn't like. She has started talking baby talk all the time. It's not an attention thing, because I give her attention 24/7 and try very hard to be patient. ...
