Trying to Eat Cruelty-free

I've recently learned a lot about food processing, steroids, hormones, and the treatment of animals raised for food. Of course this makes me very concerned about feeding store-bought meats for my family. We already buy our beef locally, so we know it's free range & grass fed. But what about poultry and pork? I don't know of any place local that sells them already processed. I could buy a pig and pay to have it processed, but that's way out of our price range. I've tried to research the brands that are sold at the grocery store, but no...

Any Mom's Still Breastfeeding Beyond Age 2?

Hi. My daughter recently turned 2, and is still breastfeeding. She's drinks cow's milk (mixed with breastmilk and alone as chocolate milk), but isn't that fond of it. Right now, she prefers to nurse. I think I read that most kids will self-wean around 2 1/2 to 3 years old. If you breastfed beyond age 2, did your toddler self wean and if so, when? Thanks

What Products to Use for an Infant Who Has a Rash

Hi I was wondering what products many of you recommend for an infant (2 month old) who has a very bad sandpaper like rash all over her body. Her back is actually peeling today since her skin has been so dry. I did take her to her Pediatrician who ruled out any illness. He stated it may be sensitive skin or she may be having a reaction to a food that I am eating as she also has very bad reflux along with it. I use dreft detergent on all clothes/linens that come into contact with her. I use Eucerin on her skin which does seem to help a...

Help! Steroids Affecting Baby's Sleeping/eating

My 16 month old baby can catch the FLU and she can catch a COLD, but she just can't CATCH A BREAK!! She's so tiny and we're working with doctors to monitor her weight gain and she just keeps getting sick! ARGH! so frustrating I just want to cry! Anyways, she came down with a cold and developed croup, we took her to the ER Sun morning because she had stridor (straining to breathe in) and they gave her an oral steroid. It took almost 3 hours to get her to sleep last night, she was so WIDE AWAKE! And she would throw herself against the...

Had Success in Treating Ezcema Without Steroids?

My baby is 7 mo old now and he has had ezcema for two months now. It has gotten progressively worst. I was able to manage it with eliminating foods he is alergic to from my diet (still breastfeeding). He is alergic to milk, eggs, peanuts and almonds (as far as skin test can tell!). I am pulling my hair out as we speak - I've been on a strict diet for two weeks now without ALL theese and his condition is getting worst. He is oozing horribly at night and itchy - progressively in the past 4 days. Benadryl does not seem to help. Has anyone...

Effect of Sugar on Children with Asthma

Is there anyone with information about the effects of sugar on children especially in the acute phase of asthma. I have read that it affects the immune system, too. There is so much contradictory information out there. I was wondering if anyone out there has actual experience. I am for the least amount of sugar for children at any time but trying to convince the rest of the family is difficult. My grandchild is a four year old boy that had pneumonia last month. His asthma attacks are getting worse and more frequent. His medications...
