Help with a Sad 6 Year Old.

I really need some advice. My 6 year old daughter is very sad. I have tried a lot of different things to make her happy including spending one on one time, new kitten, counseling. I really don't know what to do. She is on Topramax for seizure activity. She sees a counselor to help deal with the death of her father ( which sometimes I think going to counseling just keeps bringing up her grief and never lets her get past it). She is very sensitive and her feelings get hurt very easily. She is suddenly shy and gets embarrased very easily. ...

5 Year Old Snoring

My 5 year old son snores horribly at night. I have spoken with the peditrician numerous times and he always gives me the same answer. My son has very large adnoids (whatever they are) and he says that is the cause of the problem. Thankfully,he has never had any kind of throat issue (infections..etc) so the peditrician said there is really nothing to do about it. He told me to use a humidifer, which I have always used. When he sleeps I can actually see him struggling for air. I compare it to trying to suck something through a straw that's to...

Optometrist Vs. Pediatric Opthalmologist

My daughter failed her vision screening in school back in March. I took her to an optometrist who said her vision was borderline (20/40) and didn't want to prescribe glasses just yet. He said he wanted to check her vision again in 6 months, which is coming up in September. My mother has been urging me to take my daughter to a pediatric opthalmologist instead. Is there any reason to go to an opthalmologist instead of the optometrist? I find the optometrist/opthalmologist thing a little confusing. Thanks

5 Year Old Needs Glasses!

Hi - Ok - our 5 year old (in Pre K)- told us at Monster Jam "he needed glasses but did not want them- they are ugly"- he had some trouble coloring in lines etc.- so I took him to Optometrist last week- and he has Amblyopia in left eye (vision 20/25 right eye- 35/70 left). He is getting a strong eyeglass prescription. Is anyone familiar with this? And anyone have advice how to get him to LIKE glasses? He is so resistant to the idea of the everyday glasses- even the cool glasses he will get for sports. We try to tell him they are COOL- but...

5 Year Old Wetting Bed - Common?

My 5 year old son has wet the bed 2 nights this week and is oblivious to it when he woke up wet, like how did that happen? No other behavioral changes. He started kindergarten this year, but has always been in either daycare/preschool since age 1. He also just started using a nasal spray, Fluticasone as he has some lingering fluid in his ear...maybe this is causing it, I don't know. So, I mentioned to his kindergarten teacher and she said bed-wetting is really common with this age with times of transitions, climate change, etc... I'm sure...

Pink Eye? Not Pink Eye?

Hey Guys, I need some advice /opinions here, sorry it's kind of long. My two sons, ages 2 and 4, go to a home daycare with 3 other kids. The lady who watches them is the grandmother of one of the girls there. Well the girl started complaining that her eyes were burning and she ran a slight fever one day. The next day she woke up with her eyes crusted shut with yellow/green gunk. Her eyes were swollen but not pink. So mom took her to the doctor, who then sent her to an eye doctor. Both said that is was probably just her sinuses...

My 8 Year Old Daughter and Crossed Eye Issue

My daughter is 8 years old. When she gets excited or is playing an imaginary game her eyes cross. We have taken her to the eye doctor twice and both times he could not get her eyes to cross and her vision was fine. He said there were no issues. HOWEVER, both her teachers from 1st and 2nd grade have been disturbed by it so much that they have emailed me about taking her to a doctor. I have several photos where her eyes cross when we take the picture. Should I take her to another doctor?? Is there anything to worry about? I read somewhere...
