12 Mo Old with Thrush.. Diflucan Side Effects?

I took my baby girl to the ped today because the poor thing had been vomiting all day and not able to keep a thing down. Turns out it's just a nasty stomach virus going around and she will be fine. However, while there, the ped informed me that she has thrush. I had posted previously that I suspected a yeast infection in her diaper area, but I had not noticed the oral thrush. The doctor prescribed Diflucan. I have read that the side effects can vary. Have any of you moms had any experience with this med and their babies? Any side effects that you noticed? The bottle of medicine says it may cause dizziness. Just wondering what time of day I should administer this to her if it's going to affect her like this...
EDIT: Not breastfeeding.
Thanks.

It's safe for babies as young as 6 weeks. My son took it, no side effects. Every med has potential side effects, but they are not common. I would, however, wait until she is over her stomach bug to start it! You can give her yogurt, but I haven't heard of yogurt "curing" thrush...maybe it could help prevent it, but you wouldn't want your daughter to suffer by trying alternative therapies that "might" work. Like bacteria, yeast strains are becoming resistent to medication. I would give her the medication the doctor prescribed, and use it as directed.

My 1st baby had it when he was maybe 4 or 5 months old. He didn't have any problems with it, and was a much happier little guy once it kicked in.
Hope your DD feels better soon!!! =o)

I would try this first: Use live-culture yogurt and spread it on the inside of baby's mouth. Also, give her a probiotic to restore the natural levels of good bacteria. Try to cut WAY back on sugars as yeast feeds on sugar in the body. If things aren't improved in three days, I would consent to the antibiotic.

Diflucan works great for me. My daughter took it when she was smaller and it was okay for her also. Diflucan will cure the thrush and diaper rash yeast infection faster than feeding her yogurt.

If you worry about dizziness give it to her at night or at nap time.

I need Diflucan every time I take antibiotics and if you have a yeast infection you can pass it to your partner and he can keep giving it back to you also... unless he takes Diflucan also.

Many people will kiss their kids on the mouth... don't do that either unless you want to change a yeast infection also.

Yeast thrives in a warm moist environment so keep the diaper area dry and if possible let her go without her diaper at times during the day.

If she's 12 months, than she's old enough to eat some yogurt w/live cultures which will help fight it off. Also, a few bites of cottage cheese will help as well. Both my kids battled thrush for months. We went on and off antibiotics several times and still couldn't get rid of it. Finally, it went away for good when they started eating the above-mentioned table foods.

Not sure how it affects babies, but I have taken it and there are no side effects at all. I would give it to her at bedtime in case there is dizziness and as far as the thrush, as far as I know there is only a mouthwash for it but not sure how to do it if they are babies.

I give my kids yogurt for oral thrush and I use it too. Every time we take antibiotics we all get this.

Are you breastfeeding?
IF so, and your baby has thrush/yeast infection.... (thrush being the oral version of a yeast infection)... then, YOU have to get treated for it too.
On your nipples etc.
The Doctor, should have told you this.
Or the yeast infection, will go back and forth between you and she.
