I know it is always so exciting to announce your pregnancy to friends & family with the first baby, but my husband & I are planning for #2, and I'm looking for good ideas for how to tell the good news the second time around. I would love to hear creative, fun ideas for how other moms have told their pregnancy news with second, third, etc. children. It's important to me to keep it just as exciting and special for this baby announcement even though it is my 2nd. By the way - most of our family is in California, Arizona, and West Virginia - so long distance ideas would be great too! =D

(Because we had many issues with miscarraiges we always waited until the first ultrasound to tell anyone.)

I sent a baby balloon-gram with a copy of the ultrasound to my friends at a former work place. The note just said, "Guess what?" and was signed from me. The reaction was immediate and full of excitement.

It was either for my 4th child or my 5th child that I did this for. I bought 2 'pregnant body key chains'. It is clear, acrylic, or vinyl, or plastic bodice (no head arms or legs) and the 'tummy' is a clear rubber ball that can be removed from the bodice, and inside the ball is a pink/apricot plastic baby floating around in liquid. I think that I got them from Stupid.com for $3.00 to $5.00 each. Then I wraped them in a little box using light blue and light pink tissue paper. The only 'note' that I put inside was a blue on one side, pink on the other piece of cardstock (two pieces stuck together) with a question mark on each side (it was too early to know what we were having). Then I mailed them off making sure that my name was clear on the return address. It was a big hit and both my mom and mother-in-law carried them around in their purse telling people about it and showing them.

I had heard about one lady going out and getting a bunch of blue helium filled balloons and having them 'loose' in the living room so that when the kids came home from school, and the husband came home from work, then they could all guess that the ultrasound said that it was a boy.

This same idea could be done if you are telling a good size group of people... you could invite people over for a get-together, then decorate the place in light blue and light pink so that people can 'guess'.

I'm going to go read what others wrote. Good Luck.

My husband designed a shirt for our older son to wear that announced he was going to be a big brother. We took photos and sent them to the family and friends who did not live in town.

A couple of things I and friends have done.
1. We sent flowers and a card from the baby. The card said, "I cannot wait until March when I finally get to meet you. I love you already.' Baby and our last name.

2. A friend sent a picture of her ultrasound to her parents in an easter egg with a picture of her older daughter wearing a "Big Sister" Shirt.

3. Our son called his grandma and uncle to tell them, "Mama is having a baby." We did this for the 3rd.

That is what I have. Hope you find a fun way to let them know.

By the way, congrats on thinking of your second one!

Isn't it wonderful to look forward to our blessings????
My husband and I had used a '''book''theme for our hand-designed birth announcement ( 38 years ago) --- so our second ( 5 years later--- I was slow----if determined lololol) - was '''' our long awaited second edition!!!""""

Just kind of live with it- something perfect will come to mind.

Blessings,
J.

Since we are a military family we wanted to announce baby number two in a special way also and our families were thousands of miles away. We sent flowers. Pink and blue and the card read," Which one will my mommy have? A boy or a girl?". The flowers also had It's a gril and it's a boy ballons with them. They all loved it. Hope this helps. God luck with your baby number two.

Consider having your first child share the news. I made a onesie for my first that said "Big Sister". She wore it when daddy came home from work. Then we took a picture and emailed it to family. That way we didn't have to worry about which family member to call first.
If your first can talk on the phone that may be an option, but then you need to clarify for small vocabulary or possible confusion.

we did a family photo. we had one of my photographer friends take a family shot of the three of us holding the postive pregnancy test with something like "and so our family grows..." or maybe it was "and baby makes 4..." (i don't remember the exact wording), then in the corner a small close up of my SO and i kissing in the background, holding up the positive pregnancy test in focus in the foreground. it turned out fantastic, and it was a very original way for us to announce our pregnancy. heh, i'd had the announcement planned out in my head for MONTHS before we were actually pregnant. anyway, we mailed them out to our friends and family (though we did deliver the announcements in person to our parents) and got a lot of positive reactions.
good luck!

Ultrasound!!!

Especially if you get the new(ish) 3d type. That also places the announcement after the typical "danger" period.

A good friend of mine, they got family pictures done for Christmas and when she signed them (they had a 4 yr old daughter at the time) she put 'Love, Brad, Trista, Chevelle and baby #2 *due in July*'.Everyone loved them :)

After reading many of the other responses, u can also go to ur local hospital gift shop (usually) and get the "Big Brother" shirts..or just simply to an iron on transfer.U can go to any craft store for the letters and they usually have plain tshirts in many colors for $3-5.Good Luck!

My husband and I found out at the beginning of December 2007 that we were prego with our 2nd child. We had a hard time trying to figure out a way to tell everyone as well, but we knew we wanted it to be a surprise. So, we did a little bit of everything. As Christmas presents, we got everyone a fold up frame that had 2 5x7 pics (one on each side). On one side we put a picture of our first daughter. On the other side we put a RESERVED sign - Reserved for a picture of the second member of our family with an estimated date of arrival. We also had our daughter wear a shirt that said "I'm the big sister" under her jacket. We waited until everyone was there and getting ready to open presents and then had her take her jacket off. We ordered the shirt online and it was really cute! Good luck! It's really fun surprising everyone!!! M.

We bought my then 16 month old daughter a very cute shirt that said "I'm a big sister" (found one online) and took a picture of her wearing it. Then we sent an email to all of our long distance family members with the photo attached along with the exciting news. Everyone seemed to get a kick out of it and it was a fun way to spread the news as well as celebrate the new sibling role!
Good luck and enjoy!

For our 1st child, I told my parents that I was getting them an early Christmas present, but needed to know which color they preferred....pink or blue? They had NO clue (my Mom said that she likes blue flowers, but my dad said red meat, LOL) but now it's a family joke.
For our second, I sent out an extra card at Christmas saying "See you in August, Baby *insertyourlastnamehere*"
For our last pregnancy, I printed out a sign for my Mom's birthday saying "You're going to be a Nana again on "*" and took pictures of #1 and #2 holding the signs in different ways, had it printed out as a collage from Walgreens and put it in a frame for her as a gift.
There are so many fun ways to tell everyone!

For our first baby, we just went traditional and called everyone.

For baby #2 (due this May), I took a picture of my extremely positive pregnancy test-- held on to it until the first trimester passed, and then posted it to my flickr account. We then sent an email out to our family/friends (most of whom are back East) and said something like, We have a picture we'd like to share, and included a link to that specific picture. The title of the picture said, "yes, we are!" Our parents already knew, but everyone else who saw it thought it was a fun way to spread the news! We told them to feel free to forward to anyone else who might want to know. It was fun because we saved all the email replies for our second daughter's baby book.

Have fun!!

if your son is talking, you can video a message from him saying that he is going to be a big brother, or take pictures of him wearing a shirt that says something like, "I have a secret" on the front and "I'm going to be a big brother" on the back. Mail the pics out on the internet or in the regular mail...

We let our daughter tell our family and friends as much as possible! We would ask her "Who's coming?" and she would say "baby!" She was about 18 months when we started telling people, but it was a fun way to tell people that kept our first VERY involved.

when we were getting married, my husband drew a stick figure picture of us holding hands. When we were pregnant he added a baby swaddled in a blanket to the picture where we were holding hands. Then we gave photo albums to the family. At work I posted the new picture and didn't tell anyone about it so they came to me - "Does this mean what I think it means?"

Good luck

I only have one baby but the way we told our "out of state" relatives that we were expecting was I made a picture. I had my pregnancy test that said PREGNANT (the clear blue easy digital test) right above my belly and my husband and I looking at my belly and then at the bottom of the picture I wrote "We are so excited to expecting a new bundle of joy". All of our relatives loved it!!! and were very excited that we shared the joy with them.

We were thinking of announcing our second pregnancy (when it happens lol) by taking a picture of us standing up with me holding a pink balloon and my husband holding a blue balloon and either me looking at him or the balloon and visa verse and the caption at the bottom will be something like "Pink or blue... yes its true we are pregnant with #2"

With our second baby we printed a sign and let our then almost 2 year old color it and make cards for his grandparents and then we sent them out. They loved it, but my Dad told I was no longer to surprise him like that, he almost had a heart attack he said. We also were due in June08, so I was about 16 weeks at Christmas, so when I signed out letter I wrote all of our names and then in small print under that I wrote "oh, ya baby (our last name) coming in June 08!" What was SO funny about it, was it really showed who actually read our Christmas letter and who actually skimmed it!

My s-i-l just announced her 3rd pregnancy by ordering funny shirts online and wearing them to a community baskbetball game. Her's said "Yes, I am Pregnant, and Yes, I know how this happens" her hubbys had a man and a prego lady (stick figures) and it said bulls eye. And their two girls said I'm going to be a big sis again and big sis in training.

Good Luck and Congrats!

Have a shirt made for your son saying on it in big bold letters "I'm gonna be a big brother!" and take a family photo and send out a little personally made postcard to your family and friends. It seems the simplest for those relatives out of town.

I'm pregnant with our first and we contact our family through our cell phones. I took a digital pregnancy test so that it clearly read "pregnant" on it. I took a picture of it with my cell phone and sent it to my husband first. The look on his face was priceless, so I knew our family would have a similar reaction... which they did. The phone calls and text messages were never ending.

We sent out Christmas cards (but it can be Easter, or any other holiday, or even just a thinking of you card). We signed it with all our names and baby #2.

When I told my husband, I bought a "expecting" card that said... "just wanted to let you know...that we're expecting" and I slipped it under the bathroom floor to him.

My sister announced hers at a family get together by leaving an anonymous card out that to my mom that said " you're going to be a grandma again" but didn't say who was pregnant. It was a fun way for the whole family to learn of it and try to figure out who wrote the card. For far away relatives, you could have flowers delivered with a card that says something like that.
