Always Wanting Applesauce or Yogurt

Hello, my 3 yr old is always wanting either applesauce or yogurt on his food. If there is no applesauce or yogurt, he won't eat it. Anyone gone through something similar or have any good advice? In the beginning, I stood my ground and provided no applesauce or yogurt and if he doesn't eat, then too bad. Then, I gave him bit by bit...very little so that he sees it on his spoon. (I was trying to wean.) Unfortunately, it seems like he's obsessed w/having it or he gets upset. Help!

What can I do next?

Hi there. I went through the same thing with my now 6 year old daughter, but her's was ketchup. I went as far as asking others what to do...but was asked, what's the big deal? As long as she is eating. And it's true. Nothing wrong with a little applesauce or yogurt. Sounds like it's become a power struggle and no offense, but to have a power struggle with a 3 year old is pointless. Your Mommy and you fix the foods...I'd say let him have his applesauce and eat it too! lol

(and yes, Terra put ketchup on EVERYTHING...including ice cream, bananas, toast etc.... I was afraid she'd be spoiled if I gave in, but my kids are one of the only 6, 7 and 8 yr olds I know that consistently say yes maam, no maam, and please/thank you) God Bless you.

honestly, i wouldn't worry about it.
my brother wanted ketchup on EVERYTHING...even ice cream.
it was just a phase that he went through...
it lasted about 6 months, and he outgrew it.
i'm sure your child will do the same.
(at least it's a healthy food he's craving!!!)

That is so cute!! Well Yogurt is so healthy and like the other moms said if it gets him to eat all the other stuff then more power to the little man. My kids are such finicky eaters I wish I could get them to eat that easily. Dont worry!! He will be so healthy and strong. It doesnt matter how he eats just as long as he does.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!! ( Dont forget the yogurt!)

I'd say let him eat it. If he wants to dip green beans in applesauce, let him. That way at least he's eating the green beans. Most kids go through several different food phases in their life and this is just one of his. He probably won't turn 5 stil wanting yogurt with is cheeseburger.

Don't worry - when my son was the same age all he would eat was vanilla pudding - he ate it for breakfast and for lunch and for dinner! I asked my doctor and she said it was okay, and it was a phase and he woudl grow out of it and he did. He is 4 now and RARELY eats vanilla pudding but eats lots of other things. Don't stress - you have 2 choices ;0)

I have to giggle, that is so cute! I am sure I would not be giggling if it was my 3yr old!! I am going to guess it is just a phase. He obviously likes a sweet and creamy flavor. Maybe you could try some different types of sweet sauce for items like meat. Maybe he would like a little honey-bbq sauce with his chicken?? Maybe he would try a little alfredo sauce with chicken or pasta? Oh, there is the classic creamy cheese! How about cheesy-peas!! My kids LOVE cheesy-peas. Also, it my understanding that kids crave what they need. Maybe he needs more yogurt & apple sauce... Just some ideas!

Lot-O-Luck!

What's the matter with applesauce or yogurt? Both of those things are good for your son. At least he's willing to eat. My daughter is picky and will only eat certain things, but really he's not going to starve. If that's what he wants, give it to him. A friend of mine has a son who pretty much lives on peanut butter. He'll be ok. If you don't like to buy applesauce, it's not a big deal to make it.
