I have skipped it a couple times in years past when one or both of my kids were sick. My husband went to visit with his family and had dinner with them. I was perfectly fine with that. Sometimes it is just nice to have a quiet day to relax!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm not. My son will be with his dad. My boyfriend is working and I am on call for work. My parents are spending the holiday with my brother out of town. I am really hoping I can just work the whole day because being home alone on Thanksgiving would be very depressing :-(

Why is that skipping the holiday? You get to have as low-key a celebration as you want, and all you're skipping is the drama :)

I enjoy getting together with family for the "big" holidays, but sometimes it just doesn't work out, or I don't want to make it work out. So we just have a day at home to relax, play games, watch videos, read, whatever. I enjoy cooking big holiday dinners, so we still have a "feast", but my kids wouldn't mind if we did chicken nuggets, baby carrots, applesauce, and rolls.

My husband is a pilot and has had to work most holidays for the past 5 years, so we just make do with what we got! However, I'm so glad that this year he will be home (lands just in time for dinner!) and his family is visiting.

Hope you enjoy your private, invitation only holiday party (or non-party!) :)

I think lots of people do....

Personally, I'd start a new tradition with your little boy....rent or go to a movie, grab a nice big Dairy Queen Sundae of something!

Happy Thanksgiving, whatever you do (or don't do)!

You do have plans-to be at home with your little boy and your little dog. I Love it! You can do whatever the heck you want, eat whenever you want, sleep in or take a nap etc. and create a memorable Thanksgiving. It's interesting how in "our minds" because of the hustle and bustle all around us, T.V. shows, movies etc. we think holidays need to be a BIG Deal; they don't. In fact, some of the best ones are the simplest I think. I am not visiting family this year but going to some friends' house who have kids the same age as ours and like us, their family is out of state. I am looking forward to doing something different this year. Happy Thanksgiving M. to you and Yours!

For the first time in years, it is just us and I am so happy. The turkey will go in whenever we feel like it and the plan is to veg for most of the day.

I have never looked forward to a holiday as much as I am looking forward to this one. So enjoy this time with your little one and take this chance to begin some of your own traditions. Happy Thanksgiving!

Even though you & your son won't be with extended family, don't "skip it". My family didn't live near other relatives and spent many a Thanksgiving with just the 4 of us. My mom made sure we dressed up and did some of the same corny things every year, for example, my brother was always in charge of making the punch and building the fire in the fireplace. Even if you make turkey sandwiches, find a way to make the day special-- make popcorn balls or turkey shaped cookies. Watch a movie and do a puzzle together!

We are hanging low with my husband, kids, sister and mom which is very mellow for us :) I'm kinda disappointed, but last year was crazy with a buttload of family at our house, ugh!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your perfect little family :)

This year I'm having a meal with my daughter (9) and her dad, just the three of us. But one year recently I spent it by myself. And I didn't feel bad about it. I bought myself some yummy food for dinner the day before, had a good book to read, went for a long walk. It was a nice day. I agree with starting our own traditions, big or small. Our kids will remember the small things the most. There is no one right way to spend any holiday.

Your plan to stay home is the perfect plan as far as I'm concerned.
It's what we do every year!
We watch the parade on tv in our pajamas, cook our own turkey, watch the traffic reports and rejoice we are not in the middle of that whole mess!
We have no feelings of missing out on anything!

We don't have plans. We've always enjoyed doing our own thing and having our own Thanksgiving. Make traditions for your family. It does not have to be a big deal.

We live a plane ticket away from all family. About 6 yrs ago we broke our tradition, went to visit family. It's was nice but not "ours". On the plane ride home, my daughter said " mom when we get home can you cook and we have our Thanksgiving". That melted my heart because I always have special cooking, etc we do. This goes for Christmas as well.

This year, I'm bummed because my almost 17 yr old is going to Thanksgiving dinner with her boyfriend to meet his dad and that side of his family. It's 2 hrs away, I worry like crazy with her being on the road.

I'll be thankful when she gets home safely on Thursday and on Friday, I'm making prime rib for us plus her bf.

Enjoy... Whatever you do.

No, you are not alone. Our plans fell through due to illnesses in the family. My son and his wife were hosting turkey day but became ill. Hubby is doing chemo treatments and it was iffy as to his reactions - not feeling well. So we are not traveling out of state. Daughter out of state was going to visit brother and wife but changes at her job changed her travel plans and then she became sick with allergies and driving 8 hours is not happening.

We are all staying put at our own homes eating and being thankful for what we have and will get together later in the year or beginning of next year. I personally am happy not to travel so that I can make kids clothes for the kids boutique I have a booth. So I will be sewing and cooking turkey, green beans, potatoes, a salad and apple pie for dessert.

To all who are staying home be thankful that you are not in inclimate weather and traffic delays. Enjoy your family and be appreciative of what you have and your health, and be kind to each other.

Happy Thanksgiving.

We'll be at home as usual. Dh's parents will be celebrating with us because they never have anywhere else to go either. Although last year they hosted.....and the turkey was carved and ready to go before we even got through the front door. My kids were annoyed over that and insisted that Thanksgiving always be at our home from now on! heh-heh....

I skipped it once in college. I didn't even go home! It was absolutely glorious since all my roomies and most of the other students went home. I think I made a simple meal for me and watched some movies, took a long bath, read a book...
