Bedtime for 3 Yr. Old.

My daughter's are 2 1/2 and 3 1/2. My younger one usually goes to bed at a reasonable time and is on more of a schedule. She is also still in the criba and can't climb out (yet!). My 3 1/2 yr. old has always been one to stay up late. This year she started pre-school, just two mornings a week. So the night before those days I try to get her to sleep at a descent time. What time would you say is appropriate for her age?

What can I do next?

Hey B.,
I am in the same dilemma.. I have two boys 3 & 2 and they like to stay up late as well.. So lately its been an all out battle in my home.. But my victory is near.. For the last week I've been overwhelming them with activities.. I take them to the park bring them home feed and bathe them and put them down for a nap.. But I don't let them sleep for more than 2hrs. I try to get them down for there nap at 12 or 1 pm and up by three. So that by eight there ready for bed.. And lately its been going pretty good.. So my advice would be to keep her active through out the day and not let here nap after 3pm so that she will be tired and ready for bed between 7 or 8 pm the latest.. I hope I was any help.. take care and Gob bless...

I would say to try to get her a 10 hour night of sleep.....I wake my daughter up at 7am to get to school....Ariana is 2 1/2....I try to put her down to sleep at about 8pm.......and i use teh word TRY lightly........she naps at school so the nights are sometimes difficult.

My daughter is 9 and her Bedtime is 8pm...Your daughter is much smaller and I think a nice warm bath around 7:15pm, and a cup of warm milk is good. By the time she has finished that relaxing bath, hopefully she'll be asleep by 8'ish. There is a liquid Johnson's Night-time bath soap that has a relaxing aroma to it. My 9 year old loves it! Good Luck, bedtime can be hard, but it does not have to be...

Hi! My name is B. and I believe it depends on your child what time is her bedtime. My son at the age of three didn't like waking up in the mornings so 8:30pm was and still is his bedtime. Some kids wake up too early if they go to bed too early. So you really have to test out certain times to see what time she wakes up. If my son fell asleep around 7pm he would wake up at 4:30 and anything after 9pm he doesn't wake up until 10am. It took me from 2years old to 4 years old to figure that out. He is now 5years and in Kindergardten.

My son is 2 1/2...He is in bed every night at 8:00. Some nights he is asleep by 8:15. Some nights its 10:00 and he is still talking to himself in bed. He naps from 12:30-2:30 and he gets up about 7:30 in the morning.
I would say anytime between 8-9:30 would be a reasonable bedtime for a 3 year old. It really depends what time you need them to be up in the morning...

Hi B., My 3 year old I try to put him down by 8:30 , bt since he started pre-school he has been giving me a problem with his sleep routine. My idle time would be 8:00.

It depends on several factors. Does she consistently nap? What time does she have to get up in the a.m. on school days? I would suggest that you set a schedule and stick to it, even on non-school nights. When my daughter was 3 she went to bed between 9-10 pm, got up around 7:30 am and napped every day from 1-3. When she started not napping we started putting her to bed earlier, like 8:30 ish. The key will be to get her used to a schedule during the week, she will have a much easier time of it. On the weekends we all sleep in so that has always been a little lax in our house but come Sunday night, my daughter's back to her schedule! Just figure out how much sleep she needs every 24 hour period and make sure she is getting that between the night and her naps. Good luck!

My Daughter is not at this age yet so I am sure her bedtime will change, Now it is around 8:30, but she is 8 months old....But My sisters both have kids and they are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 and there bed time "starts" at 830PM.....So I would say that is a reasonable time.

My son, who will turn 3 in May, has always been on a schedule. I think the thing that helped me and him the most was putting myself on a schedule too, which might sound great since you have high schoolers that wake up early for school. Also, since she started pre-school see if you can get a weekly schedule of what the kids are doing and at what time, like what time do they nap. Then stick with that. Our day starts at 6AM and my son's daycare naps about 12 til 2 so when he gets home at 4 I feed him, bathe him and put him down at 7 for a shuteye by about 8. Since he has been on this kind of schedule, when he doesnt nap(occasionally) at all he is so sleepy by 6 he just passes out where he sits and he will sleep till 6AM because he was so tired and do it all over again. I too am pregnant and due in about 6-7 weeks, when are you due?
