Bodybugg Vs. Polar HRM

I'm trying to lose baby weight & generally just get back into the habit of regularly working out. A friend of a friend uses a Bodybugg and loves it. Has anyone used one? If so, what have your experiences been? Also, what model do you have and would you recommend it or a different one? My trainer knows nothing about them and only endorses a Polar heart rate monitor. (My assumption is that he's under contract by the gym to only endorse Polar or that they get some kind of bonus for a Polar purchase.) If you have a Polar HRM, what model do you have & do you like it? Thank you for your advice.

What can I do next?

I recently was looking into HRM's and wondered the same thing whether I would rather have a Bodybugg. After looking at the website, I decided that I was not spending that much money for something that was only 80% accurate. Plus the Bodybugg doesn't function as a HRM which I was ultimately looking for.

As for Polar it is the consensus that they are the gold standard when it comes to heart rate monitors. I don't believe your trainer is getting a kickback because I have asked around and have received endorsements of Polar from people with nothing to gain from it.

I injured myself and have yet to buy one but I will be buying a Polar when I am ready.

I just got my birthday money from the inlaws and was going to buy a Polar, but now I'm curious about this Bodybug thing, and will have to check that out. Sounds like it may be helpful too. I'll be looking on Amazon yet tonight :D

The two are pretty different in what they do. The body bug measures your calories in and calories out and tells you your deficit. The Polar HRM helps you work out at the proper heart rate and maximizes your results. THey are both very useful tools it just really depends on what your goal is. Together I'm sure they'd work wonders! I personally have the Polar F7 and I love it. I found I was running much too fast and could actually slow my pace to burn more calories and work out more effectively. You are probably right that your trainer is endorsing the Polar for a reason as does mine, but I don't regret spending the money on it. I'd search Amazon though, they are much cheaper than the club for sure!

Talk to your trainer and ask him whether he is required to endorse Polar. He may let you know if it's part of his job description to do so. On the other hand, maybe he likes them! If he wears one himself, pick his brains about it.

I have a Bodybugg and I do like it. It's a combination of a device I wear and a computer program that does the "thinking." It doesn't lose weight for me, but it helps me keep track of how many calories I'm taking in and how many I'm putting out. Sometimes I ignore it (said she, turning red) but in my saner moments I know it's a very valuable tool that I need to use faithfully. You can learn about Bodybugg at the 24 Hour Fitness web site (you don't have to be a member to do this online homework). I hear there's a new model out - or coming out soon - and that's what you want to investigate.
