I need to get opinions on boy names. I have always wanted to name our boy after my grandpa, Leo. He was a special person in my life and it would mean a lot to my family to use that name. What is your option on that name? It is a name you don't hear very much these days!

What can I do next?

I think Leo is a great name! My oldest son is named after my husband's grandfather and his middle name is after my grandfather. It makes me so happy that he has such a meaningful name. Best wishes!

I think Leo is a great name! My boys are named Tanner & Traeger because I didn't want names that are used by everyone. Although, I will say that I kept a second name on hand that I liked just in case the one I picked didn't seem like them once they were born.

I like Leo. I know of at least 2 little Leo's! One is about 3 and the other is 4 or 5. So, I think you'll hear it more and more. The old names are coming back. I had never heard a little boy named Charles until I named my son that, now I hear it ALL THE TIME! :)

Good luck!

I think Leo is a great name :) I think that kids grow into their names no matter what is chosen and I have also never met a mom who is unhappy with her own child's name (unless she had no say in it). So, rest assured, if you do choose Leo, it will fit him and you will be happy with it. Is daddy on board with the name? That might be the other "decision maker."

My 2 year old is in daycare with Leo, and we love saying his name! Definitely a good name.

And it doesn't look like it's TOO popular of a name, see: http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager#prefix=LEO&ms=f... where it says it was the 228th most popular name in 2008.

Go for it!

I think Leo is more heard of than you think. We hear the name all the time because of the Disney show Little Einstens - there is a Leo on the show. Also, our now 6 year old had a Leo in her pre-k class. Go with it!!

I wouldn't choose it, but I think it's alright- especially since it is a family name that means something to you. Everyone is going going to have an opinion one way or the other, so don't worry about it. Choose what you like. =) Really, it's not a bad name.

I think it is great you want to use your grandpa's name.
My first son was named after my husband's grandpa, Ivan.
For my second son his middle name is from my grandpa ,Vernon.
My husband did not want it as his first name. Ivan is not a name
you hear that much and you could also use it for a middle name.

I really like "Leo" for a boy's name! There is an advantage to having a "not too common" name, I believe, and yet Leo will not get misspelled or mispronounced like some.

One of my friend's kids is named Leo, and the first few times I heard it I wasn't really crazy about it, but it grew on me, and now I think it is really cute. There are so many "old" names out there that you can certainly get away with it, and when it is a family name with meaning, you can get away with it even more. The main concern is whether you and your husband like it. Don't worry about the rest of the family. It's you and your husband's decision, not theirs. Have fun- name picking is a hard process, but it's a lot of fun!

My nephew's name is Leo so I love it! It's a great name, and thank goodness, it's not trendy, and you didn't invent the spelling (can you tell I am not a fan of trendy names or names with made-up spellings?!).

Go for it.

I have a student this year named Leonardo, but he goes by Leo. Personally I like the name, especially since it isn't a common name. For both of our kids I wanted names that were not common, but also not weird.

I have not heard Leo a lot. It's not a super common name and I, personally, like that. :) A lot of the "older" names are coming back, but I don't think Leo was a super popular name before. I'd say go for it! Congratulations!

I like Leo! And you're right it is not used much which is a good thing- because it's unique, but still normal [used long ago in history] and easy to spell. I think it's a great idea to use family names, too. I think it's a good choice, especially since it has special meaning to you.
If you're still unsure, you could always use it as a middle name
