Childcare - Daycare Center or Home Care

Hello, Moms. I'm a new mom of a 3 month old. I'm looking for full-time daycare in the Allen area starting the last week in July. I'm open to either a well-recommended day care center or a home care situation. My daughter will be 5 months old at the time that I return to work full-time. Thanks for any leads that you may have.

What can I do next?

Hi Susanne,

I highly recommend Day Care over home care. My little boy is now 3 years old and we originally put him in home care with someone who was certified with the state.

One day my husband picked up our little guy and he had a huge bruise on his face along with dried up blood in his ear. We thought maybe another child dropped a toy on his face, or step on him (sounds funny I know, but kids can be klutzy). Long story short...when we called our sitter to find out what happened she got real defensive and said nothing happened. When we questioned if she heard him cry she said no.

After a trip to the emergency room, we found out our little guy (at the time was 5 months old) was fine. But since then we are strong believers in day cares with cameras.

We love our day care...Bear Foot Lodge!

Best of luck!

Hi Susanne,
First let me say that it will be hard to leave your child in the begining, but it does get easier. My opinion on child care, is a day care center is better. I personally feel that there are more 'watching' eyes in a center than a home care situation, especially the ones with internet camera's. It's not perfect and things can still happen in a center, but I feel the chances are a lot lower for neglect, and harmful behavior b/c in a infant room, most centers have two caregivers, and in the one we were in, there was 3rd person who helped with lunch breaks. My point here is if one caregiver was puttin the child in danger, there were 2 others who might report it, or step in, plus the director's office was right outside of the infant room.

You child will be exposed to more germs in a center and be get sick a lot in the first year, but they would be have been exposed in a home care or once they started preschool anyway. So I think it's better to expose them early and get it over with. Any place you choose, please check out the Dept, family services site as part of your research.

Hi Susanne, I know of an incredible gal in Plano that does in-home day care. She worked for me at our church for a long time and is wonderful. Her name Is Gina Chhabra and she takes care of my nieghbor's son and will be taking care of their new baby girl very soon as well. I would highly recommend her. She lives off of Parker and Mission Ridge so not too far from Allen. ###-###-####. Many blessings and congratulations on your little one! J.

Please go to a daycare home. I work at a center and ratios are too high. Or search for one that has low ratios.

Hello Susanne. I run an in-home daycare in west Plano. If that is not to far out of your way, I do have an opening for the time frame you want to start in. You can read reviews of my childcare in the Local Business Reviews on Mamasource. The name of my daycare is Adventures in Growing. I also have a website with more information. It is www.adventuresingrowing.net. I hope to hear from you soon.
