The past few nights my 4 1/2-month-old son's diapers have been leaking. His onesie under his sleep sack has been wet on one side and his diapers have been extremely wet in the front toward the top of the diaper. He's been in Huggies Overnights size 3 which have worked great for several weeks, so I'm not sure why this problem sprung up out of the blue.
I changed him to Huggies Overnights size 4 last night and he still leaked (but not as much). I really was hoping the larger size would take care of this problem.
Any suggestions? Has anyone used the Diaper Doublers with success? Any diaper brands you recommend for nighttime? (As a side note, we can't use Pampers Cruisers - he breaks out in a big diaper rash with those.) Also, I do "point him down" (if you know what I mean!) when I put his diaper on, but he moves a lot at night so it doesn't stay that way all night. Thanks for your help!
(Updated: Just to provide a bit more information - my son was just under 18 lbs. at his 4 month pediatrician appointment a few weeks ago. Yes, I know he's a big boy! He started out at 9 lbs. 2 oz. so he's never been small. :) So, I'm pretty confident the size 3 diapers he's been in for a while are the right size and I don't have any problems with size 3 Huggies leaking during the day. I decided to go to size 4 Huggies Overnights at night since I had heard of people going up a size at night. I know size 4 seems huge for a 4 1/2 month old, but he's definitely got a baby belly!)

I too had a problem at this age with both boys.
I used Huggies and a disposable diaper doubler that I found at Tom Thumb.
I also used one of those plastic diaper cover that are used with cloth diapers and it worked great though they did seem to have a heavy bottom half with all that gear on down there! But hey I didn't have to change the sheets in the morning!

Huggies leak on my son all the time and he wakes up nightly, gets a nightly diaper change, and is only 2 months old in a size 1. Huggies just are not the best brand. I would suggest using Pampers, but your son is allergic. I have even pointed my son down, which I have found helps more. You may need a smaller diaper that is a little tighter to prevent leaking.
We used Luvs and they worked fine. I never used Huggies because i had heard of the problem w/ leaks. I hope this helps.
I use pampers night time and they work great. Also, at walmart you can buy rubber pants and put them over the diaper. It at least contains the urine and saves on washing sheets! They also have liners that you can put underneath him. Good luck!

Diaper Doublers ROCK!!! We didn't have to use them until after my son was around 2 - 2 1/2. But they save the "night"! They are sold at Babies R Us - in the diaper section - I always have to get down on my hands and knees to get them - they are always on the bottom shelf at the end of the diapers before the wipes.

I think the diapers are probably too big. My 22 month old just went to a size 4 diaper?? Unless he is a large baby, I would say he should be in a size 2 (at the biggest). I also had lots of problems with Huggies, we use papmers. My daughter also cannot wear the cruisers. The diaper should be fitting pretty snug on him. Try a smaller size and I bet you see a fix to your problem. Good Luck!
I know your son can't wear the Pampers Cruisers, but have you tried the Baby Dry form?? I would buy a small pkg, and then if they don't work, you can donate the ones you didn't use to your church, for them to have as "spares" (cuz Momma's are always "forgetting" them cuz they got in a big hurry that morning, or they just need extras).

I had the same problem on and off with my son also. My mother-in-law bought these things that look like pads that go inside the diaper for extra protection. I think you can find them near the diapers at the store, I think they are called diaper liners. They helped him at night not to leak. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem using Huggies. In my opinion they are the worst brand on the market. We switched to luvs and never had another problem.
Try the plastic underwear.
I have had the same problem off and on. Before I discovered the Huggies Overnights, I would have to buy a pack of diapers a size bigger for night time. But the Huggies Overnights have helped. There are times when he does leak, but I have found that if I give him time after his last bottle to make a wet diaper and change it before he goes to bed, he doesn't leak. Sometimes, there just isn't time to wait that long before I put him in bed. In that case, I go ahead and put him to bed, and right before I go to sleep, I change his diaper again. This usually ensures that he won't have a leaky night. For the most part, my son will sleep through me changing his diaper as long as I do it in his crib. I don't really have a solution for you, but I hope what I have said helps.
Have you tried putting plastic pants (the kind you'd use with cloth diapers) on OVER his disposable diaper? That worked for us...
With disposable diapers when you start to get leaks it is usually time to go up a size, even if they are borderline on the weight range. I hope you were able to find a happy solution to your diaper problem!
