Facials at Home

I want to start taking better care of my skin. I don't have the time let alone money for spa facials. For you who do facials at home, what do you do and what product do you use? What really seems to make a difference in your skin. For me I find steam is really great. Makes a real difference in my complexion. What about you?

What can I do next?

I exfoliate with baking soda, and follow up with apple cider vinegar. Made a HUGE difference with my skin. Take the baking soda, add a few drops of water, and rub it into your face and neck. Then, put some apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball and use as a toner. I follow up with face lotion. Personally, I use this lotion: http://us.boots.com/DayMoistureLotion/ . I purchase it at Target

My daughter and I will occasionally make an oatmeal mask. We do like the steam.

We both have a very strict routine with our skincare. Never, ever go to bed with makeup on face. Wash/moisturize at least twice a day.

I am 49 and have faithfully used Clinique products since I was about 11. Daughter is 17 and has used Clinique since about 11 as well. They have good products, dermatologist recommended, guaranteed or your money back.

I know a lot of it is good genes but I easily pass for early-mid 30's. I currently use the Repairwear line with moisture surge day, night, laser repair serum, eye cream. I also wear sunscreen daily, keep myself in good health and drink a lot of water.

GOod luck

I second steam and a really good moisturizer. That's one thing I'll indulge and recommend the Neutrogena line. Not sure if the "anti-wrinkle" element really works but SPF and moisture is very important.

Sometimes I'll buy those instant clay masks at Walmart (skin aisle). They're about $2.00 and leave me feeling refreshed.

I find that exfoliating 2-3 times per week is very beneficial. I just read an article somewhere that said if you have really dry skin, you should be exfoliating at least 3 times per week. I tried it and it's making a world of difference in my skin. I also try to do a good mask once per week - I have several that I use, some for tightening, some for moisturizing. One of my favorites is to use pure kaolin clay powder and just add a bit of witch hazel or water. Keeps the skin feeling and looking nice and smooth.

Finally, I am adamant about using eye cream (usually Neutragena Intesives brand) and moisturizer with spf (used to use Neutrogena, but now use the Sephora brand because it's less expensive- I really like it). Finally, I am also adamant about washing my face every night - again, I use the Neutrogena brand, it's the acne/wrinkle one but I can't remember the exact name. In the morning, I just splash warm water on my face - too much soap can dry it out. On that note, I read something a long time ago that said that models use powered milk w/a little water on their face in the morning - gives your skin a nice glow and isn't drying like soaps.

I have a strict routine of washing my face before bed no matter how tired I am, exfoliating a few times a week and using organic Argan oil as a moisturizer. I discovered the Age Loc Galvanic Spa by Nu Skin a couple of years ago and love it. It rejuvenates your skin and gives an amazing glow like you just had a great facial. I use it once or twice a week, it does make my skin look better. I rarely ever got facials but friends who did say now that they use this, they don't need a monthly facial.
