Gall Bladder or Not? Back for More Advice...

I asked a few weeks back and got some great feedback. Since then, I've had the ultrasound of my gallbladder, pancreas, liver and kidney done - all came back normal. Labwork done, and I requested an ANA Titer rate lab test because in the past I had tested high for ANA Titer. It came back 1:640 speckled. I have an appt. with a rheumatologist on Wednesday.

However, I'm in CONSTANT pain in the right side. It seems to be generally in the right side under my ribcage, radiates around to my back and often feels like someone kicked me in the kidney. I'm paranoid, and having anxiety attacks. I feel like a total freak sometimes because this anxiety consumes me. I often can't sleep because I'm worried and afraid.

The doctor is scheduling a Hyda scan for me... Can anyone offer any words of advice?

One worried mommy - who just wants to be as healthy as I can be for my kiddo's. I lost my stepmom to cancer 3.5 years ago, and lost my brother 2 years ago to anaphalaxys.... I'm just a basket case right now wondering what's wrong with me.

What can I do next?

If the hyda scan comes back negative, I would most definately have an EGD done to check for ulcers in the stomach and the upper part of small intestines. And a CT scan of the abdomen if you haven't already. Have you physician refer you to a GI doctor. I had that exact same pain you are describing, went through all the usual gallbladder tests, and in the end, it turned out to be an ulcer in the upper part of the small intestines. That's why all the pain was on the right side. Just a suggestion. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Do the hyda scan and if it comes back normal ask them if you could have pleurisy. Its when the lining of the lungs becomes inflamed and it causes bad pain on the side under the ribs. I had it once and its horrible. Also my sister in laws gall bladder scans all came back normal even the hyda but she was throwing up and having bad pains so they sent her to a surgen and once he got in there he found a very diseased gall bladder full of stones that the scans didnt pick up. Dont let this go till they find out why you are in pain. Its not in your head so dont let them make you think that.

You should keep you appointment for the HIDA scan. Just because you ultrasound came back normal does not mean that it is not your gallbladder. All the ultrasound looks for is gallstones. The HIDA scan will actually test the function of your gallbladder and will give you a % of how well your gallbladder is functioning. If this is abnormal i.e less that 35% functioning then you need to see a surgeon to have your gallbladder removed. If you HIDA scan is normal then you need to see a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy and EGD performed.

Hi Sarah I don't know what is going on with you but my thoughts and prayers are with you that you may heal up in fine form. Some possible things that could be going on that are not cancer related maybe - broken rib? or vertebrae iin your back is out of whack? Have you ever been to a chiropracter? I don't know where you are located but there is a good one here in brewer Maine. Anyways, if you do have a "subluxation" of your vertebrae sometimes that can be translated into pain that radiates around your torso in an uncomfortable way. I'm no doctor but I'm just throwing out ideas for you to consider so that your mind doesn't immediately jump to the worst possible scenario. Best wishes. I hope everything turns out fine. As someone who has suffered mysterious pains from time to time, it can be quite nerve wracking until you figure out what is going on! keep pressing your doctors for answers!! (you may also want to try acupuncture - if there is any kind of nerve thing that is happening, this can help also)

Go to GI doctor. Get tested for H.pylori. I have it and have constant pain in my right side just under my rib cage. Stay sick and nauseated. Sometimes I have to put an ice pack on the spot to numb it so that I get some relief. I am taking ranitidine for now until I am through breastfeeding my baby before I get my second round of antibiotic treatment/ulcer treatment. Hang in there. I had all those tests and lab work that you mentioned even the Hida scan, CT of abdomen, etc. All negative. It took them 5 years before they finally figured out it was H.pylori infection.

I do not have advice for the test that you will be going through. The only thing I can offer is prayer for your health and strength to endure procedures. I am also offering prayers for peace during this time. I encourage you to pray as well. If your not a praying person then just sit quietly and think of all the positive things in your life, concentrate on those things. God Bless!
