Hi Moms. We are house hunting in NW Indiana. My question is about Griffith, IN and the schools. We have our eyes on a home that would be in the Wadsworth School area. Is that a good school? Also, Griffith in general....Is it still a nice town to live in? Is it still the same Griffith I remember-a prideful town with nice areas or is it going downhill? I hear a little of both. Hope to hear from somebody :) Thanks.

Hi Sahm, I am a resident of Griffith and have been living here for 10 years. I may add that this town is very safe and the schools are very good. I have one son who is soon turning 5. He will be attending St. Mary Church for kindergarten. Wadsworth is a good school. Also, may I add that since they installed a new drainage/sewer system, all the homes that had been listed as a flood zone, are not in the flood zone anymore. Luckily where I live, we did not sustain any damages from the flood of last 2006. The schools in Griffith have had a good reputation for their success in kids' learning and aptitude.

Hey Jenny! You know my feelings on Griffith. We live here, along with most of my immediate family. We all LOVE it. There is good and bad in EVERY town. We have been more than happy with the town. We would love to have you of course, but you guys need to make the right decision for yourselves. I can't tell you anything about the schools though. Our kids go to Highland Christian. I haven't heard anything bad about the schools though.

Hi Jenny - I think it really depends on what part of Griffith you are looking at. I am not familiar where Wadsworth school is, but I know the area of Cline & Ridge is still nice. My daughter attends Jeanne's Dance Academy, which is right there. I think the problem areas are when you get closer to Calumet Township.

I have friends who live off Burr & Avenue H (Oak Ridge Estates, I believe)& their house is beautiful. That is a lovely area. I live in Highland and although I love the area, the school system leaves a lot to be desired. We are actually looking at moving in the next year due to my frustrations with it.

Best of luck & I hope I helped a bit.

I would not want to move to Griffith if i were you! Mansards is part of the Griffith Schools and there is SOOOO much violence there on a daily basis! I would avoid it at all costs! My husband and i are currently house hunting and there is NO WAY we would purchase a home in that town!!!

Hope this helps and best of luck!!!

Wadsworth school is a nice school and the neighborhoods around it are nice. I have family who lives in that area. As with any town, there are good and bad parts of Griffith. The area you are talking about is very good.

The best schools in NW Indiana are in Munster (1) and Highland (2). The parents that currently reside in Griffith say the schools are OK, but are relocating to Munster.

We just moved to Griffith in June 2007 and so far it has been very nice. I like the small town feel and the community aspect, but I do warn you there are good and bad parts of the town.

My daughter will be starting at Franklin Elementary in September and from what I have heard this is the better of the 4 elementary schools. The schools are a lot better than Chicago Public schools are.

A word of warning though you should try and look at the houses after a rain storm, or if you can drive there during a rain storm and find out what parts flood. We found out the hard way after we moved in that our street floods every time it rains.
