Grooming the Bikini Area...

This question was asked fairly recently, but got only a few responses, so I'm asking again for those of us looking for ideas...

Currently, I use the old fashioned razor to keep the bikini area smooth. It's a pain, and I am still working on how to prevent the inevitable razor bumps...

I know waxing and laser hair removal are options for some, but not for me. Are there any other ways to clean up the bikini area? (Currently I'm taking it all off, so it's really a pain!)

I know Riley has suggested using unscented Secret deodorant after shaving to prevent razor burn... I haven't tried it, but plan to...

The previous poster asked about an electric bikini trimmer... I haven't seen or tried this, but wondering about it also...

So how do you keep your bikini area smooth? Any tricks of the trade that you'll share?

What can I do next?

The electric razor/trimmer! I have one, it's a Schick Quattro Trimstyle For Women, one side is a razor that you can buy replacement blades for and the other is an electric trimmer. It takes one aaa battery.I got it at Wal-Mart. Initially it was expensive, like $10 I think (maybe more) but I have had it for 6 or more months. Since you can buy new blades for it, I think it was worth it.

(It is the first one)

You can take the trimmer cover off to get a closer trim, which I do. Or you can adjust it too. Ack I can't believe I am putting all this out there LOL! I like it because I don't have to buy seperate razors to shave my legs since on the other side it is a razor.

When I do shave, which I still do certain parts (tmi), I use my hair conditioner. I also use it on my legs. I love it, never leaves any bumps or razor burn. Also there is this stuff from Pure Romance called Coochie, that is made just for shaving down there.

My dermatologist told me to use a little bit of neosporin after I shave, especially those places more prone to red bumps and ingrowns.. I've never had a problem since I started using that :)

I answered laser on the other post but since it's out for you, try Magic Shave. It's in the ethnic hair care section, it's a hair removal cream for Black men - to use on their heads. I know many ladies who use it (I did before laser) and call it a brazilian in a bottle, lol. Very smooth, long lasting, no bumps.

I use razors also. After I get out of the shower when I shave I pat dry, never rub dry and spray my inner thighs and my bikini area ( two areas I get the razor burn ) with a pump bottle, body spray. You can get it fairly cheap at Wal-Mart or Bath and Body. then use the same scent lotion every where. The alcohol in the spray burns like a son of gun!! But it does keep the razor burn away.

Find a Pure Romance consultant in your area and try Coochy. Its a shaving cream/ conditioner. It can be a little pricey but it is so worth it. I use a razor and with using the Coochy I never get the red bumps or the itchness afterwards. You can use it for your legs, underarms and even as a conditioner for your hair. My husband also uses it for his beard.

Before finally splurging on the laser (awesome I didn't finish 6 treatments, but after just 2 my hair is so thin shaving is a breeze) I always had to wax. The good thing about waxing was the gradual hair growth being much less "stubbly and harsh" than all the full hair growth being constantly shaved. The bad thing was that you do need some growth to wax, so you can't always be totally bare. Pain in the neck! I usually just made sure to always wax so hair remained thinned out, and then if a "special occasion arose" I'd shave which always made the hair much thicker until next wax, but what can you do.

I use Nair instead of shaving. Less ingrowns, at least for me. I still get some "itchiness" when the hair grows back, but a lot less bumps.
