Hi Ladies. I just found out yesterday I am one - two weeks pregnant. I guess the first OB appt isn't until 10 weeks! I am going to go crazy during that time. How do I know everything is okay? What signs suggest things are going well/or that there is a problem. I'm already having some stomach aches, boob pains, and tiredness, all of which are good signs I'm thinking..... Any wisdom you could give would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

The only thing I would say that hasn't been posted is in response to the post about exercise - all exercise is fine as long as it isn't any more than you've already been doing. I also recommend the Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy - the only realistic book out there full of info that you'll never get from any other book. In fact, I gift that to anyone I know who's pregnant with their first. And read the Girlfriends Guide to the First Year of Motherhood when you're done! Congrats & best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

Make sure to take vitamins!! Rest if you feel like it. Eat healthy--steer clear of dangerous things. I was active through my pregnancies and enjoyed walking esp. outside.

Congrats!

Congratulations! My husband and I also found out we were pregnant just recently and when I called for my first appointment they didn't have anything until I was almost 12 weeks. With our first we were in by 8 weeks so I was a little nervous about the added wait. Let me reassure you, it goes fast, not only the 10 weeks but the whole pregnancy, so try and enjoy every moment, every day, and every new experience with it. I'm thrilled for you that you didn't mention anything about morning sickness! All of pregnancy you pretty much just wait, wait, wait, and then as soon as that baby is out, waiting and relaxing is something that you wish you could experience again some day! Good luck with everything and congrats again. Enjoy!

Congrats!

There really isn't much you can do besides eating right and taking a prenatal. You can exercise, jump around, run and do most normal physical stuff.

The 10 weeks will be here before you know it.

The only real sign to watch out for would be spotting. All the aches and pains and tiredness is all good normal signs.

Congratulations on your first pregnancy! You are actually 4-5 weeks so waiting until week 10 won't really be so long :)

The reason you don't see the doctor until later on is because there isn't much you can do right now. I would suggest taking a prenatal, if you aren't already, and getting a list from your OB clinic for the "no no's". No advil, no benadryl in the first trimester, no unpasturized cheeses, etc. There are lists of this stuff on-line but doctors also have their own recommendations that may conflict with what you may find.

I would suggest getting yourself a couple of pregnancy books and reading all about it to help pass the time. I must have read at least 15 books during my first pregnancy. I just couldn't get enough information and I loved reading other people's birth/pregnancy stories.

Have fun and enjoy this!!

Congrats K.,

This must be your first baby :) With the first one it seems like the days crawl by. This would probably be a really good time to start looking at your diet and making sure that you are eating for optimal health for you and your baby.

Mostly just relax and take care of yourself. Believe me on the other side of this (when you are sleep deprived and holding your precious baby) you will at times long for the time to just take care of you! So even though you are very excited to get to the prize, enjoy the journey as best you can, and eat right, and get enough sleep! And whatever you do try to stay balanced in what you read, too many people scare themselves silly with the first one. My best to you, hopefully you will be able to enjoy your pregnancy and this change in your life!

Hi,

I would recommend reading some books also. My favorite was The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I loved that one. Congratulations!

Well, congratulations, K.! There's not really much you can do during the wait, except be patient, get your rest, eat right, and think positive!! *smile* Your doctor will be able to hear heart tones at ten weeks, which is why you won't be seen until then.

Watch out for any kind of spotting and/or cramping. That is cause for concern, and you should go see your doctor immediately. Other than that, just be patient and take good care of yourself!

The best sign is the worst thing. Morning sickness... Ick. You usually won't feel that till at least 6 weeks along though. I read a study that if you had morning sickness your chances of miscarriage which are normally one in four pregnancies improves to about half that! So I'm thankful always for my morning sickness. Ironically enough with every single miscarriage I've had my symptoms have been few and far between and very light. No morning sickness. I seem to always get blighted ovums and start the process of miscarriaging if I'm going to around 7 weeks.

The real things you should watch for that signal a problem are red blood of any sort call the doctor asap. Also menstral like cramps that have you doubling over, not the minor ones most get that make you feel like your period is going to start, miscarriage ones are much stronger and similar to the contractions of labor if you recall those. Fever of course. Everything else isn't really much of a concern.

Congratulations! Someone else wrote too that you are actually 4 weeks along. This is true. The 40 weeks include the 2 weeks before you conceive. The pregnancy symptoms that you described are good signs. If you went in for a blood test, they could tell you what your HCG level is as well. I had to wait to see the doctor until after 8 weeks also. If you have any concerns before that though, don't be afraid to call and talk to a nurse. They are usually very helpful. If you have any type of bleeding, call right away and they will have you come in for an ultrasound. It doesn't necessarily mean something bad, but to just be on the safe side. Good luck! I know those first 2 months can be very nerve-wracking!

I am also a few weeks along, but this is my second pregnancy. It seems like forever until that first doctor's visit, but it'll get here soon enough. Then you'll be going every month!! It sounds to me like all of your symptoms are normal. I remember being very tired the first trimester of my first pregnancy, and it's been the same so far with this pregnancy. Just read your "What To Expect..." book--it's very helpful to learn about all the Do's & Don'ts. Good luck & congrats!!!

Congrats! Just relax and enjoy it. Taking naps is perfectly okay. Eat healthy, whole foods and drink plenty of water.

I waited about 5 months before I got any kind of care. Well, a few weeks before that I stopped in by a midwife friend of mine just to finally hear the heartbeat (that was a relief and a thrill!), but I figure that if you let nature take its course, things will most likely be alright. (I'm not much into medical interventions.)

So, relax and enjoy! :)

it is a long 10 weeks i know, we miscarried our first at 5 weeks so waiting until 10 weeks (only a visit with a nurse real physical wasn't until 13 weeks) the second time around seemed like ages. I ate very healthy and took my prenatal vitamins and used the time to make a list of questions that i had for the dr. As long as you are not having spotting it is a waiting game, but if you start to spot you should call the dr right away, sometimes it is nothing and other times it is serious. Read lots of books and try to not get to worried about it all. Good luck and congrats!
