Minecraft for a 6 Year Old?

My son loves to build things in the free version, but you can't save the creations. He likes to watch youtube videos of people building and playing. I would like him to be able to play the game and save his creations, but I have no idea if there is a version for kids so he doesn't end up getting killed by someone else who is playing. I think it's a server game where there are other players in the world.

Do any moms know about minecraft for young kids? What version might be a good fit? THanks!

What can I do next?

I'm not positive, but my kids have been playing it for over a year. There are different modes and some you can get killed and some you can't. And there are different servers. My kids usually hook up on one server with their friends and so it is their friends in the game with them (I don't know if there are others or not, but they work together with their friends, not steal from each other).

My kids are 11 & 14. All their friends seem to play it, too.

My 7 year old daughter loves Minecraft. My understanding is that as long as you're in "create" mode, you're the only one playing. Once you go into "play" mode, that's where other players come into the picture. She happily tools around in Minecraft in create mode - it seems like a perfectly okay game for kids in that mode. We just have the paid version for the iPad - I'm not sure if there are several paid versions - whatever the basic paid version is, that's what we have.

My son is also six, and also loves to build things, and ALSO gets upset about not being able to save his stuff! I am interested in the responses you get. I don't let my son play the "real" version with the zombies.

Google it....just to be sure...but...

My boys (9 & 7) have also been playing this game for about a year and I do believe that there is a 'stand alone' mode, in just the regular version where you build and save your own stuff...I know for a fact that you do NOT have to play online against others, if you don't want to!

So, there is stand alone and multiplayer on the regular free version and he wants the stand alone.

This game is actually pretty cool. It is AH-MAY-ZING the stuff the kids can build and create! I was blown away by some of the stuff my 9y/o has built, he built a pirate ship...a basketball hoop, he built me a house with all kinds of my favorite things in it...the list is endless and very neat!! My 5y/o daughter has even got into the action and plays along side her brothers and her Father and Dad built her a house and a garden where she can go and collect flowers...it's so sweet!

my almost 6 year old daughter loves this. she watched my younger brother play it all the time. now she plays when she is at my dads house. the one i downloaded on my phone has a creative play (i have no idea if its different or not).
I believe that my daughter plays in creative mode and my brother plays in survival mode. i dont understand the game at all i just know she likes to build things in it.

1) In order to play with other people, you have to log onto a server.
-There are tons of little kid servers (both enforced strictly & name only)
- There are tons of no-griefing servers (ditto).
- You can make your own private server

2) You don't have to play on a server at all. You can play on your own computer... And NO ONE can get into your levels
- You can set it to creative (can't die, all blocks available)
- You can set it to different difficulty levels (easy, etc.)
- You can set it on easy, then switch to creative when you want it to be, then go back to your settings.

If you're playing on the xbox or the computer, there's a single player mode, where you can save your stuff, and not be open to other people. It can be a server game, but you have to know the server information to connect to, or open your home connection to allow other people to connect to your server.

Just stick with single player mode on either peaceful or normal, and he should be fine.

ETA - Everyone in my house plays minecraft. Including my five year old. Sometimes on multiplayer servers, sometimes on single player. So far it's been pretty good with the kids, but that's because if we're doing multiplayer, either I'm running the server, or my brother is, and we have the IP hidden so that no one else can see it.

My 9 year old son plays it as well - on the ipad in creative mode. He bought the $6.99 version. I forget specifically what it is called, but he loves it.
