my 1-yr old daughter got her 2 bottom teeth around 9 months, but nothing more ever since, actually she will be 13 months next week. A friend thinks she may need some calcium supplement. But when I asked the pediatrician, I was told not to worry. Just wondering if I could get some advice /suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

My understanding is that all babies are different and they develop at their own pace. I don't think you should worry.

The same thing happened to my son. He is 12 almost 13 months in a week and has only had 2 bottom teeth since he was 8 months. I asked my pediatrician and she too said not to worry. Unless you are going to a pediatrician in Newport Beach I doubt we have the same doctor and if two doctors say the same thing then I guess it really is not something not to worry about. As a matter of fact I almost wanted to take him to the dentist but I guess I will give it time.

Kids all get teeth at different ages, no worry, everyone is different. I didn't get more than 2 teeth till around 18m, my son had 8 teeth at 13m. They'll get them eventually. Just remember you don't need to hold back on foods, they're gums are strong and sharp too.

Dear C.,
Greetings!!!

Don't laugh!!! But, my dazzling son, Dylan Orion, started teething when he was about 13 weeks old. We were so convinced that his teeth were coming in! We even told him that they were as he drooled away! Believe it or not, he just celebrated his 9 month old birthday on Sunday (29 June), and on Monday (30 June) his first tooth broke through his gums! AMAZING! What I've truly learned from this experience is that every baby is different, and your daughter's teeth will come through when they are ready to come through. Just like Dylan's. : ))) Enjoy your precious sweetie and her gorgeous smile!

LOL,
L. (MAMA to 40 week old Dylan Orion).

our doctor said that the longer the teeth take to come in the longer they will have them! my son had barely 3 teeth at his 1st birthday. he is 2 in 10 days and only has 12 now. i worried as well for a long time- all the kids the same age around us had all of their teeth and were eating everything where i was still feeding him baby food etc b/c no teeth to chew with. now he eats everything as well. be patient and thankful b/c these teeth she will get will be strong and healthy and last longer. :)

Don't fret...they will come. My son had a toothless smile on his first smile...not 1 tooth! His first tooth came at 13 months...he's now 28 months with all the ones he is suppose to have. My daughter, 10 months, doesn't have any teeth yet....I'm not worried a bit! When I asked my ped. about my son, he said just as long as he has some by 18 months...

Both of my children (now 3 & 5) didn't get their FIRST teeth until age 1 1/2!! They are fine, my 3 yr old is still waiting on several more...
It is actually quite a blessing because they are older and have distractions, playtime, things to chew on as opposed to an infant who might cry non stop because of teething pain.
Every child is different, calcium should not be a problem, this is just your child's individual development.
Best of Luck,

Be thankful for everyday she doesn't get more, then she isn't sad a miserable teething! LOL!

My daughter, who is now 23 years old, was always behind with teething. She was a nearly a year old before she had her first tooth. When they did come they were much larger than those of other babies. This pattern continued right through her secondary teeth. Even now she has not shown signs of getting her Wisdom Teeth. The good news for her is that because she was much older when her teeth came her jaw had grown enough to accommodate those teeth. She has perfect teeth and I had not spent one penny on orthodontic work. Bottom line, I wouldn't worry too much. But do remember to gently brush those 2 little teeth and her gums. Ask your dentist when you should make her first visit. Enjoy that toothless smile as long as you can... the years pass much too quickly.

Don't worry. My son, who is now 2 and has a full set of teeth, did the same thing. He was actually almost 10 months old when he got his first tooth and eleven and a half months when he got his second. He was around 15 months, when he got his next tooth and after that they all started coming in about 1 to 2 every 3 weeks.

My three kids didn't have any teeth until they turned 1 year. I am happy to say that each of them 8, 5, and 2 years old have a full mouth and happy smiles. I never adjusted anything they were eating, the doctor said they will come and they did. I can say teething was never an issue for us either because their pain tolerance was a little greater being older or it was a little easier to communicate to me what was bothering them and I could address it.

I have three children. All three of them did the same thing. They would get one to two teeth around 10 months and then not anymore for a long time. I talked to the dentist about it and he actually said that it's ideal. The longer the teeth stay in the gums, the more healthy they will be later since they don't have as much contact with food and sugars. You shouldn't worry and don't give your baby supplements. Every baby is different, her teeth will come in when they are ready. My kids actually ended up waiting and then breaking a lot of teeth at a time so ...good luck!

My little guy didn't have any teeth when he turnned one - he now has two on the bottom @ 13 1/2 months, but I don't see any others on the way soon - Don't worry - every kid is different (my niece had one tooth @ 13 months and at 3 has them all) and I've never heard of baby dentures - my best advise however is don't let lack of teeth keep you from exposing your little girl to all kinds of foods w/ different textures - it seems like if they can't "chew" w/ teeth they should only have mushed up stuff, but let me assure you my guy eats everything - somehow he manages (in small chunks of course - he still can't bite off anything)

I know how you feel, but don't worry. My daughter didn't have any teeth until after she was one and now most of them have come in and she is two. Just her eye teeth and I think a molar or two to go. From what I understand, those are usually last to come in.
For reassurance, just look at her gums and you will probably see the white-ish bumps underneath that are her teeth that will come in someday.
Don't worry yourself for nothing...just enjoy her cute near toothless face while you still can!

Hi! Think of it this way; the longer those little teeth stay inside the gums, the longer they are protected and able to grow stronger. Kids that get their teeth later are less prone to cavities as long as you take good care of them later on. All three of my kids got their teeth very late compared to their friends, and they have very healthy teeth with no cavities.

I have 5 children and none of them had their teeth at the same time. My oldest son didn't get his first tooth until after his 1st birthday and it seemed to take forever for his teeth to come in. His brother had his first tooth at almost 3 months and didn't get another one until 5 or six months. My daughters all got their first teeth at varying times from 6 to 11 months. My oldest daughter had all of her teeth before her first birthday.

The real problem comes when your oldest child uses their first tooth and the younger ones can't wait to lose theirs!!! :-)

Both of my boys were late teethers. They both only had 2 teeth at 1 year old. I can't remember for sure how quickly they came in after that but my now 21 month old has a mouth full. The only bad part is that he got a bunch of them at once so we had one pretty intense month where he got 8 teeth.

My almost 5 year old only had 2 teeth at 12 months and got the rest of them really slowly. He got his 2 year old molars at 3 years old. But he's got a mouth full now and is perfectly fine.

I can't imagine what difference a calcium supplement would make. I would assume that if your 1 year old has an adequate diet, she's likely getting plenty of calcium.

No don't worry. My oldest son walked at 10 1/2 months and had not teeth at that time (we called him our toothless wonder:)
His first tooth cam in about 13 months. Children who get teeth later usually get the second teeth later and therefore are better able to care for them and so have fewer cavities. Actually of my three children (all late teethers) only one has a filling. Avoid sodas, candies, cookies, etc except as treats and them make sure they brush after having them.

My dad was a dentist (now retired). And he always told mom's and parents not to worry because it is the one thing in a child that varies from child to child. The rate in which they show up in child to child is sporadic. Your child is just fine and normal. It has nothing to do with any calcium supplement. As long as she is eating from a variety of foods she is fine. You can also be glad that she doesn't have a lot of teeth because she will have healthier and stronger teeth throughout childhood, because they are down under the gums where there is less chance for decay.

I wouldn't worry about it. My son was 6 months when his first teeth poked through and had all of his teeth by 12 months. My daughter is now 14 months and cut her first 4 teeth all at the same time within the last two weeks.

Our pediatrician said that if she didn't cut her first teeth by age 16 months, then they would do some testing for genetic diseases, etc.

But once the first ones come in, it can take up to another 2 years for all the of the others to come in.

I would just continue to feed her healthy stuff, give her some infant multivitamins, brush her two little "toophies" so she gets used to the brushing feeling, and not worry about it.
