I have a 3-year-old daughter and she has a beautiful smile. My concern is that she has 5 teeth in the front on the bottom, and I know this isn't normal (she currently has 21 teeth instead of the usual 20). Her primary care physician says that when her teeth fall out at the normal age (5-8) this won't be a problem anymore. She has dental insurance, but everytime I have scheduled an appointment (4-6 months in advance), they have to reschedule, or I have to (It takes that long to get in to see her dentist, and I've tried finding a new one, but on the plan she has none of the pediatric dentists are accepting new patients). I just want to know if there is anyone out there who has a child with this same thing. Is it relatively normal?
My son has tooth problems as well. Have you contacted Dr. Dicarlo? He is new dentist in Kingman and really caring.

hello M. i understand the problem with pediatric dentists i have a special needs child who has had multiple problems with his teeth he is 12 and has never lost one they have all had to be pulled because the permanent teeth came in behind the baby ones recently he had alot of his baby teeth pulled to make room for his adult teeth he has a wonderful dentist that specializes in kids and kids with disabilites he is located in huntington beach that is the only thing he is a lil far away but great with children and he has gotten us in really quickly his name is Dr. Richard Mungo message me if u have any questions ok
The two pediatric dentist I have used are Tri-City Childrens Dentistry They are off of waring court in oceanside by the 78 their number is ###-###-#### and the other i've used is access dental they are further down the 78 by emerald exit their number is ###-###-#### they both accept insurance i have united concordia . They are both great and got me in right away. (my kids are 16 months and 2 1/2 and they worked well for both of them )
Kinda the same thing with our former dentist. It wouldnt take that long to get an appointment, They were really good with that actually, Our problem was that when we had an appointment we had to wait at least 2 hours to be seen, and then wait at least a half hour for someone to come in the room, It wouldnt have bothered me that much but at the time my daughter was about 5 months, it was over 90 degrees, there was no air conditioning in the waiting room and I had an EXTREMELY bad tooth ache :( We switched dentists after that, Our new dentist is about an hour away now but they came highly recomended by my husbands co-workers, and they get you an appointment as soon as possible, usually within 1 week. Its a lengthy drive but its worth it, I know with 6 kids in the house hold it might not be the best thing to do something like that but if you could be assured you'll be seen.. I know it'd be worth it for me. Im not sure if you have a dentalville over there, they're especially for kids and have all kinds of things to keep them busy while they're getting a check up. Perhapse if you call several dentist offices and tell them your situation they might make an exception? If all else fails, dont answer the dentist offices call, go in and if they tell you your appointments been cancelled or moved over, tell them you're more than willing to wait for the dentist to have an opening (They cancelled yours, why cant they cancel someone elses apointment to see you just this once?) Hi M.. My kids didn't have that problem, but one of my sons did have a lot of problems with his teeth. I live near you also, but the best dentist I found was in Auburn. We have Healthy Families insurance, so I'm sure they would take almost any kind of insurance. It does take a couple of months for an appointment, but they were great with my son when he was three. We saw a lot of horrible dentists that were mean, and have scarred my son from wanting to go to the dentist. But this place was really nice and well worth checking out. I have Delta Dental ppo for my daughter and there is a ped dentist Magic Smiles in El Dorado Hills that accepts our plan, I just called a couple days ago and her first apt on the 24th. There is also a ped dentist on sunrise (DR Weideman)in Citrus Heights I dont remember how long it took to get in exactly, but I know it was not more than a week or two. They are not on the PPO list for Delta so I have not been back.

Not exactlly - my daughter was missing a tooth at that age on the top front she only had three - they told me it would grow in. She is 12 now and they now tell me that she will never get a tooth there and needs major reconstructive work in her mouth because of it. I had taken her to a pediatric specialist - who was from the Phillipines and apparantly this type of thing is so common there that they don't treat it.
Younger dentists are really versed on this because it's more common now - so if you can't find a pediatric specialist try to find one newly graduated for at least an opinion. Her dental x-rays will show how many teeth are forming by now.
