Not Thrilled with Haircut...

I realize that this isn't the biggest deal in the world... BUT, I was feeling kinda blah and so I convinved myself to go in for a new "do!"

Ever have a haircut that you are not totally happy with? I went in and asked for something fun, something sexy, and new. She definitely gave that to me, so why am I not happy with it? It feels 2-3 inches shorter than I wanted. Now I'm having regret about asking for anything different. She cut off more than I expected and I just keep telling myself that it's hair and it will grow but I'm not happy =( Any words of encouragement are much appreciated =)

What can I do next?

Yes, after I asked the hairdresser to cut bangs on me. They drove me nuts!

Give it two weeks, and you'll notice that it will be a tad bit longer and maybe start to fall into place a little better.

I did the same thing two weeks before Christmas. I found out sculpting gel will hold the spikey parts down. I look like a rooster.

When I asked her why it was sticking straight up, she said she thought it was fun. It looks beyond weird for a middle-aged M..

Breath in and out. Give your self a couple days to get used to it. I am not a hair dresser. But I can tell you that when you go in feeling blah if its not the hair then its something else. My family used to say they knew when I was going into depression. I would do something weird with my hair lol I would get it all cut off or get a super curly perm or a hair color that was not quite me. So just give it a couple days and see if there is anything else that is needing fixing. a description to a hair dresser of give me something new, sexy and fun is probably just what she gave you. but you were not realy needing new , sexy fun you needed a hug maybe.

You should of had pictures on what you wanted your hair to look like not go in with give me something fun, sexy & new you got what you asked for.Did you give her how many inches to cut off?I would play with your new style it will grow back in time you may learn to like it or hate it bt for now it is what it is & don't go back without picture of what you want it to look like next time.Sorry but you gave her fair play to cut your hair.
Look yourself in the mirror & see how many new fresh ways you can do your hair maybe a new curling iron flat iron new hair products to help with your new style

Take a picture of it so that the next time you go to the hairdresser wanting a change, you can say, 'I did not like this!'.

I'm sorry that you are not feeling your new look. Did you give her some guidance? 'I'd like a trim but would like to keep it around shoulder length', or did you give her full freedom?

I asked mine to chop it to mid-neck. My hair poofs and thought that it would settle after a few days. It took 4 weeks! So during the next appt. I told her. That look did NOT work for me. So now we keep it to shoulder length.

It will grow out and we are our biggest critics, especially when we are used to it being one way.

When I was pregnant with my first my MIL treated me to a day at Jose Ebers. Now I had always had hair down to the middle of my back, it's curly and it's full. When we went in I explained I wanted something that would be a little more manageable with a new baby on the way, but didn't want to go short. Before I knew what was going on my hair was sitting on my shoulders.

Now I have to say, it looked good, but I was pregnant, 18 and totally in shock. I hated it. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it...and then I let it grow and grow, only to turn around 5 year later and chop it all off. Well as much as the stylist would do, the next one didn't want to go as short as I wanted. Now every 2 years I chop my hair and donate it. It's hair, and it grows back.

Try styling it different ways. I find sometimes that I like it better when I style it myself.

If nothing else you can buy cute clips and/or headbands. :-)

I understand! I just got mine cut - about 12 inches! I went from long to short in an hour time, and while I like it, it's hard getting used to it this way. I can no longer just "throw my hair up in a ponytail" because it's too short and won't all go up! I feel naked on my neck, and with it being cold now, I'm always freezing! I guess my hair was my built in scarf! haha!

I just keep telling myself that I wanted this new style, and that I go through this about every 5 years where I just cut it all off. It will grow back. In the meantime, I'm embracing the no split ends to look at, the less styling time, and the fact that it's given me a little confidence boost that people notice me. :) Good luck!

Most stylist want you to be happy with their work, so call her up. She should be able to get you back in, even just to teach you a couple easy ways to style your new do. I'm terrible at doing my own hair, but my stylist was able to teach me an easy way to fix my hair with just some pomade wax, and I actually love the way it looks almost every day.

Hair seems like "not a big deal" but your self confidence can really make or break your day.

That happened to me the last time I got a haircut! I always have shoulder or longer hair. I wanted something new and fun! I specifically told her no shorter than chin length - fun, choppy with lots of layers! Most of the cut was/is great but right up by my face she cut like band things that hit my face mid cheek and I hated it! It just framed my already round face the wrong way. So I bought I bunch of cute little clips and just clipped that part back on both sides. I got so many freakin compliments on my new do! LOL!!! Seems to be that everyone else liked it! And now that it's grown out a bit, I actually like it alot too and plan to keep my hair short like this for awhile, although I am going to let the weird bang part grow out......:)

I hate getting a bad haircut, but I try to look at it as an adventure - I know only way not to cry - It will grow out, but in the meantime, go to a website that has the hairstyle you have, find out how to fix it in different ways - what products do you need, pick up small "trial" sized products at sephora or ulta to make the hair do what you want.

If all else fails, call the stylist and tell them you aren't happy with it or tell them you need help styling it, can they help you (for free!) or the cost of a style appointment to help you learn. I have found when I call in, they are more than happy to work me in - they'd rather me be happy than dissapointed.

Good Luck!

This just happened to me this weekend. I was very specific about the length of my bangs (I'm so picky) and she cut them waaaay too short anyway and I hate it. I clipped it back and will wait for it to grow.

The good news (I guess) is that we're usually our own biggest critic. So, while you hate it, it probably looks great to everyone else and you just need to wait it out.

So sorry you are not happy with your haircut I've been there, twice!!! at age 24 and at age 31, I was so bored with myself that I told the lady to give me the pixie cut ugh God it looked terrible. It took about a year to look better and full two years to grow to a pretty length.
My best advice: buy a lot of pretty har accessories, I used a lot of butterfly hair clips, hair bands and used biosilk hair oil to manage the volume. Since it was so short it started growing in all directions so I had to use gel/oil etc.
I also used pretty scarfs and other clothing that distracted attention from the hair. I had to become more fashionable than when I had a full head of hair.

Good luck hun, I'm sure it's not as bad as you think we tend to judge ourselves a lot harder than others when it comes to haircuts.

No matter what I do to my hair, I always hate it for the first couple weeks. I love my stylist and it looks great as I walk out the door but I'm not very talented when it comes to styling it. After a couple weeks, I figure it out and usually end up loving it. I did have to go back once and have her tweak it a bit. She said a good stylist won't mind and would rather have you come back than lose you as a customer.

Another idea is to look at U-Tube videos. My teenage daughters do the most amazing things to their hair and when I ask where they learned (because it obviously wasn't from me!) they say U-Tube.

We are always our worst critic. I'm sure it looks much better than you think.

A few words.
Sometimes, when it's really different, it just takes some getting use to. The haircut might grow on you in a week or so.

It also might be that you don't quite know how to style your new do yet. Try some different ways to do it - and they might not be how your hairdresser does it. My last haircut I didn't like when she did it - chin length and turned under - I thought it looked like I was wearing a helmet. But I messed with it, and found that the same cut, but styled with a round brush to a flip out instead of turned under looks pretty good. I also like it turned under like she did it, but tucked behind my ears instead of framing my face.

So, see if you can restyle the same cut to something you like.

I don't actually have an answer for you but I had my daughter's hair cut. Her hair is fine and straight. You would think it would be easy to cut right? Apparently not. I asked for only a trim, maybe an inch or two. The gal cut her hair so that one side was up by her chin and the other side was down by her shoulder. When I asked the girl to fix it she said, "You know I'll have to cut her hair shorter right?" What? She only had to cut one side to even it out. Needless to say, they no longer have my business. Experiment with other ways to do the do you have until it grows out.

I had that not with my last haircut, but the one before. I love my current stylist and he always does an amazing job... and he gave me EXACTLY the cut I wanted but it was a few inches too short. It's just now the length I wanted it then and it's already past a second haircut.

That's okay, though, because I did tell him to remove the damage in my hair. I just didn't realize that would mean going shorter than I expected. And since I didn't clarify length with him the way I normally do then he did go shorter than usual.
