I am currently 8 months pregnant. Earlier in my pregnancy, we realized my husband's insurance coverage was sub-standard and we could not afford a hospital birth. So, I signed up with the Austin Area Birthing Center.
I really wanted a hospital birth because it went so well with my first child, but I had no choice but to go to the birthing center.
The AABC is awesome and I have been preparing for a natural birth, but my husbands insurance has completely changed and it will enable us to have a hospital birth.
I am debating whether or not to deliver naturally or at a hospital. I live in Pflugerville, so we are looking to deliver at Seton on Mopac or the hospital in Round Rock IF I decide to go to a hospital. The epidural is SO appealing....
I need referrals for an excellent OB who supports natural childbirth and does not insist on things like birth induction and episiotomies, IVs, catheters, etc. I am looking for a doctor who would be cool with me getting out of bed to deliver my baby if necessary (does this type of doctor even exist??)
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
If I do not feel comfortable with a doctor, I will go naturally as planned...

I just moved here to the Austin area myself, but I had a wonderful OB/GYN in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I hated to leave him, but then he told me that his business partner moved down here to Round Rock and is practicing and told me that if I wanted a practice like his in Albq, I needed to see him. His name is Joseph Fernandez and that is who I will go see.

Dr. Susan Orth at Oakwood Women's Center in Round Rock supports Natural Childbirth. I did a natural birth with her at Round Rock Hospital with my daughter and had a great experience.
Check out Dr. Laura Meritt at Women's Renaissance Group. She is very supportive of natural childbirth, using birth ball in the hospital, doula support, willing to deliver out of the bed, no epidural, etc. She was also really great with the nurses and other hospital staff and directed them quite well to be hands-off and give us lots of space and time alone without monitoring.
In the end I had an emergency C-section and I think she was nearly as sad as my husband and I were to have let go of the natural birth. She is extremely caring.

I highly recommend Dr. Christine Sebestyen who delivers at North Austin Medical Center on Mopac. She encourages natural childbirth and lets you deliver in any position. I am both a childbirth educator and doula and highly recommend her for my clients.

There is a great group of OB's in Round Rock. I saw Dr. Susan Orth and loved her. I did not have a natural labor, I had 3 c-sections. She is amazing and so is her nurse. You could always call and talk with Paula over the phone and ask her your questions.

can recomend my OB as she is at Seton Northwest. Dr Brasher-Giles. One she has a set oftwins and just had another child. I found her through a friend. She is grate and will listen to all your concerns and tell you weather or not she thinks that would be doable. I will let you know that if you have an epidural they will not let you get out of bed. With my first child I wanted one but to also have a water birth, I was told that was not happining. After having an epidural with my son I can see why. I couldn't feel let alone move the lower half of my body but there was no pain. If she is not availible all the dr's in that practice are grate. I live in round rock and I am due with my second child in the fall and still am planning on delivering there. I would highly recomend them to anyone. I was originaly with seton over on 38th but I din't like the doctor and had moved north so I can understand not wanting a cold and unfeeling Dr. Hope this helps. :)
i still recommend going natural. i did with both of mine in a hospital and love it! the dr. i have heard is great is christina sebestyan. spelling may be off a little. good luck!
Like Marie L, I also recommend Dr. Brasher-Giles at Seton NW. They have tubs in the birthing suite there and if you are not hooked up to any meds, you can sit in there for your labor. They also had birthing balls, rocking chairs, etc so that you can keep changing positions. I did the Bradley Method (natl. childbirth) and Dr. BG was very receptive and respectful of my birthing plan, as were the nurses.
