My husband and I want to relocate to Seattle from Texas. Can anyone recommend a nice suburb or area of town? Some important considerations include a relatively short commute from Downtown and an area with a good public school district.

What can I do next?

I moved here ten years ago from Kingwood TX. I've lived as far north as Burlington (about 90 minutes north of Seattle) as far east as Kirkland & Issaquah (not far in distance but a world away in traffic time) and settled in West Seattle.

West Seattle has easy access to downtown without having to get on I-5 which usually is a nightmare around downtown and north/south up to 30 miles each way.

West Seattle has a small town feel to it. People here are concerned about supporting local businesses and there's a great moms group here through meetup.com

Welcome to the area!

Hi R., this is C. McGraw. I live in Washington, near Seattle. I am a Real Estate Agent in Port Orchard Wa, and I would love to refer you to a great Agent in the Seattle Area. They could work with you and show you great neighborhoods near downtown. Let me know if that sounds like something you would like to do. Good luck with the move!

Thanks, C. McGRaw

Hi R.,
I live in Des Moines, just south of Seattle. It takes about 10-15 min to get Downtown, depending on the day. We are in the Highline School District, with some of the best teachers around! It's not too crowded here, is very close to the water, and just a great place to live! Email me if you would like any more info or just to talk! ____@____.com
Good Luck,
C.

Hi R....
I grew up on Mercer Island... It is about 5 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from Bellevue. The schools are great, just a little pricy. If that isn't an issue at the current time I would definately look there, Bellevue, and Issaquah. Good Luck with your move!!!

My husband and I are currently relocating from Texas to Seattle as well. Actually he moved up there a month ago, and I am following when I finish school this August. We found a great neighborhood in Seattle, it's called Ballard. A good website to read about the different neighborhoods, etc. is
http://www.seattlerentals.com/760.html
Not sure if you are going to rent or buy, but either way it tells you lots about each of the neighborhoods. You can also google by zipcode, and get all kinds of info on the demographics, schools, etc.
good luck!

Wow...this could be hard depending on if you want to live more in the "city" or more in the "burbs". I prefer "city" and live right in the heart of downtown (5 minute walk to work), so that's what I'll recommend.

Here are some suggestions of areas to look into:

West Seattle
Georgetown
Ballard

Good luck. You're gonna love it here.

Hi R.!

I moved to the Seattle area from Texas about 6 years ago. My husband has lived here all his life. We've always lived in the Bellevue/Redmond area (considered Eastside). Bellevue/Redmond/Issaquah have the lowest crime rates in the area. I would never even consider living in any other city in the Seattle area, personally...they also have the best schools.

Good luck!
