I will be relocating to the McKinney area this summer. I would like suggestions on some neighborhoods that are family friendly with lots of young kids that feed into good schools.

What can I do next?

I would look in Plano in the Matthews Elementary Neighborhood. The boundary streets are north of Legacy, South of Hedgcoxe, West of Independence Pkwy., East of Coit Rd. It's a great neighborhood, with a wonderful elementary, then excellant middle, High School and Sr. High School feeder schools.

Hi C.,

I have lived in McKinney for 9 years now and have had children in the school system the entire time. We love our schools and our area so much that when we moved it was only 1 major street away in a different subdivision. We go to Bennett elem., Dowell for middle school and Boyd for high school.

I highly recommend the Eaglecreek and Greenbriar subdivisions with in Stonebridge ranch. From Greenbrair, it only takes 2 minutes walking to get to Bennett elem. and a big park and it's a 5 minute walk to one of our community pools. We love it!

Mom to mom, I would highly recommend Melissa Eason w/ Keller Williams. She has lived here even longer and it took us 2 years to find our perfect house (we're picky) and she stuck with us the entire time. We love her too!!! Her office number is ###-###-####.

Good luck & Blessings!

We live in the Liberty Subdivision in M., TX. It's a new subdivision with a brand new elementary school (opened this year). All of my friends with school-aged children LOVE the M. school system (especially compared with others). I believe that they're renovating the middle school right now to be open in the fall?!?!?!

Please let me know if you have more questions. As far as the neighborhood - We LOVE it! Lots of families with young kids and older kids too. Our neighbors are fantastic and everyone I've met from the neighborhood (out walking or at the pool etc.) is extremely friendly.

C.,

Welcome to McKinney. My family moved here in 2000 and love it. I grew up as an Air Force brat so I moved a lot. By far this is my favorite place to live.

There ar many great neighborhoods in McKinney. Most have elementary schools within walking distance. Our Middle & High schools are zoned by social & econmic standards verses geographically. If you live more than 2 miles from the school you are zoned for you will have bus transportation available. Some parts of the city of Mckinney attend Frisco or Prosper schools both districts are great too. There are new neighborhoods still being developed in McKinney.

There are many different price levels in McKinney and good neighborhoods at most of them. So that will make a huge difference in the neighborhoods you are looking at.

My husband & I are realtors and specialize in McKinney since that is our hometown. We have helped many families relocating from out of state to the DFW area.

One of the free services we provide is a personalized website set up for your specific home guidelines. This site will email you when new properties are added that meet your guidelines. If this is something you are interested in just send me an email and we can get you the informaiton we need.

I hope you and your family will come to love McKinney as much as we do!

I have quiet a few friends with young kids who live in Craig Ranch in McKinney. They all seem to love it and it is in the Frisco school district which is an excellent district! Also, I live in Frisco by Gunstream Elementary and from what I've heard its an award winning school. We really love our neighborhood which has a good mix of homes ranging the 150's to the 300,000. I highly recommend the Frisco, Plano, and Allen School districts. I think they are they best in the area!

Hi C.!

Relocation is always an exciting new adventure that can be a bit scary at the same time. Are relocating with a job? Have you been assigned a realtor to work with?

If not, I would love to help you. I have helped over 500 families find beautiful homes that met their specific needs. I personally have lived in Frisco for over 12 years and know Plano, Frisco, McKinney and the surrounding areas like the back of my hand.

We are not your typical realtors. You can ask any of our clients and they will tell you. We work very hard to understand your specific needs and then go and find the best options for you. In addition, we don't leave your side until you have the keys in your hand.

For more information, visit our website at www.northtexashomefinders.com. Be sure to Put "T. Mamasource" in the How Did you hear about us section, so your information will come to me and I can make sure you get the personal service you deserve.

If you aren't set on McKinney and are willing to look slightly west of Plano, try Castle Hills. http://www.castlehills.com/ It is a very popular community with tons of kids and awesome schools. Our Public Elementary is in the center of our neighborhood and has an Exemplary rating. The Middle and High Schools have great reps also. There are also some very good private schools within a 10 minute drive. McKinney is nice, but I love this side of town. We are close to everything the DFW Metroplex has to offer, only 25 minutes from the airport and within 15 minutes of 3 great malls and tons of shopping. We are also just barely into Denton County rather than Collin County so our taxes are lower :) Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Welcome to the area. We moved from Florida also.

Hi C., Welcome to Texas. If you are looking for a neighborhood where your kids can walk to school, try Whiffletree (Legacy & Marchman). The houses are beautiful, large, have pools and the prices are incredible for what you get. Lots of mouldings, bathrooms and good size bedrooms. They are a better value than new homes in the area.

I live and teach in Anna which is 15 minutes north of McKinney on HWY 75. It is a small school district with a small hometown feel. There are several housing developments to choose from in Anna. We are growing but I still feel a closenss in our community. I'm active in our local church which has an AWESOME children's ministry and a growing Women's ministry. The kids have programs all day Sunday and AWANA's on Wednesday night for ages 3-5th grade. Our women's ministry just had a scrapbooking night and have a girl's night out tonight. Good luck with your move!

Welcome to Texas!

First, I'm not a realtor so I have no services to offer except a suggested area for you to look at. :)

My husband and I built in a neighborhood called Cambridge in McKinney. It is a small subdivision -- 109 lots but only approx. 40 or so are built on at this time. Almost every house has children ranging from newborn to 14-15, with the bulk of those in the 5-12 age range. Since there are not a lot of homes built everyone knows everyone and it is extremely family oriented. A group of the ladies walk each morning and we frequently have neighborhood get togethers like scrapbook night, BBQs etc.

The neighborhood has limited entrance and exit points so its a little more secluded but still close to good schools too.

It is located just east of Ridge Road off Virginia Pkwy. and Joplin. Centex builds there and right now has a couple of spec homes for sale. You can also build of course. We just really love this area.

I saw someone mention Castle Hills. This is a very nice area too. It has a lot more homes tho and I know that there have been foundation problems due to the soil they built these homes on. However, if you've never lived in Texas, foundation issues are very common here so don't let it freak you out. The ground just moves so much.

Again, welcome to Texas and good luck in your hunt for the perfect home!

I live in Celina, about 12 miles East of McKinney. We live in Carter Ranch. It is very kid friendly. On our street there are 5 kids the same age as my daughter and we are all friends and hang out all the time. t is a "cookie cutter" neighbor hood but I love it because of all the people there. I also have an entire "scrapbook room". I love it and Celina has a scrapbook store that is super cute.
