Son Has a Gash on His Nose

Hi, my son accidentally rolled off of his changing table (I was standing right next to him). Thankfully, he is fine except for a gash on his nose. Since he is so young (5 months), what can I put on it so that it heals and also does not scar? I went to get aloe vera gel, but it said for babies under 2, consult a doctor.

What can I do next?

I don't want to make you crazy but I will tell you what happened to my daughter a little older than 5 months. I scratched her subtly (accidentally) not thinking that it would last or scar and I put aloe on as well. I also put on vitamin E and I was diligent about it. Nonetheless it scarred. It was not in such a noticeable place but until recently the indentation of the scratch was still there. It is barely noticeable now over 1 1/2 yrs. later. I think it'll go away with time and I'm sure your son's will too since their skin is so resilient when its so young and soft. But for ages we saw it in pictures of her and I felt HORRIBLE to have caused that to her. It is hard to know what to put on it but you could call a dermatologist and ask if there is something stronger to put on it so it'll heal. I would only go with something all natural though, no steroidal lotions.

I would recommend Contact your pediatric.

Call your ped. He/she should be able to recommend something over the phone. My daughter had a small scratch on her nose and in her ear. We used Aquaphor on it and it healed it right away. The main thing is to keep him from scratching at the scab. If you can manage that, it probably won't scar.

I hate to say it, but my son has a scar on his cheek from where he scratched himself in his sleep a couple of years ago. It barely made an impression on me at the time, but apparently it was deeper than it looked from the tiny scab and it made a little gouge. It's not like he scars easily - that's the only one I know of - so I can't explain it. I tried buying one of those OTC scar kits with vitamin E, but it made no difference.

Don't know if there's anything you can do, but you could check with your pediatrician. Make sure you clean it well and put neosporin on.

I know how awful it feels when your child gets hurt accidently.
My son had a bad rash on his face during the winter. He was only a couple months old, but the dr. prescribed him several remedies like cortozone and triple antibiotic. Even prescription strength.
It is my personal believe that it is mandatory for companies to standardly put that on packaging.
If you don't feel comfortable using anything without dr. consent you could just call the office and ask the nurse if it is ok. The triple antibiotic really worked for my son.

We always use Neosporin pain relieving ointment for scratches and scrapes and such and really like it for fast clean healing, but it too says to consult a doctor for under the age of two. As long as it was not possible for it to be ingested, I still would use/used it on our little ones if I felt they needed it.

Hello,

Try Aquaphor (it's like a vaseline). My daughter had a spot on her cheek that would not heal. I put this on at night or when you know your baby will not rub it off. While she was in the stroller or at the park was good. You need to be consistent and KEEP putting it on. It also started to go away when she was outside more (maybe a little sunlight). There is a very tiny red spot, but it's much better than it was. It takes time though.

Good luck.

I think they just recommend keeping it 'soft" w/vasoline kinda product.
