Does anyone know of a sunscreen that is good for children with excema? My son will be two at the end of August and the sunscreen that I currently have is really bothering his skin. If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.

What can I do next?

Hi. I took my 23 month old to a Dermatologist yesterday and he said the only Sunscreen he recommends is "Neutragena for Sensative Skin". We bought some at Wal-Mart last night for around $7. I had taken in an entire handful of baby/sen. skin ones and this was the only one he said he likes. Happiness!

hello S., my som also has eczema and we use Arbonne Baby Care line. it is a bit pricy but thats what i have been using since he was born and he will be 2 in September. i also use their baby body oil when his eczema is acting up, it works also! hope this helps. the only thing with this brand is that it is not sold in stores, you have to go online. also, we use Aveeno baby stuff in the bath tub and the lotion after. it works wonders!!!

My son has had small areas of eczema and just very irritable skin. My doctor told me not to use anything over 30 spf because research is now showing the spf can cause problems later in life. So it was very difficult for me to find a childrens sunscreen under 50 spf - I went on Amazon.com and found "Susan Brown's Baby Sensitive Baby Sunscreen Lotion Spf 30+ Broad Spectrum Uva/uvb Protection Fragrance Free" it worked awesome!!! We went to Florida 2 weeks ago and I was so afraid that he would not get the protection from the Florida sun and it worked great...he did not even get tan! I was awesome - I highly recommend it. Oh and my son is 11 months.

Hi S.,
I had the same problem with sunscreen and my daughters horrible excema. I decided to try Neutrogena Pure Baby sunscreen and it hasnt bothered her. It doesnt burn their eyes either, I used it on my own and was pleasantly surprised that it didnt burn. I also use a lotion (someone advised me to use on Mamasource) its called Dermarest, I get it at walgreens, it has worked wonders for my daughters excema, it has gotten so bad, I almost checked her into the hospital, but with these lotions, its under control.
Good Luck, I know how hard this is for you and your child! I hope it helps you!

Have you tried Aveeno Baby sunblock? My daugheter has sensitive skin with excema and that's what her Dr. recommended. I've bought it but haven't used it yet, so good luck!

Hi S., my husband and two of my boys are very sensitive to many chemicals. If you continue to use chemicals in your home and on your child you will increase sensitivity and decrease their natural defenses. I recently found natural sunscreen and bug balm (Badger is the brand) at our local store, Happybottomus. They have an online store, too. I think all the "kids" sunscreens sold at regualr stores have several bad chemicals! Also, we stay in the shade in the middle of the day or gradually increase sun exposure starting in the morning while camping. Also, read Dr. Mercola's articles on sun and sunscreen.

We took our daughter to the doctor for her excema and they gave us samples of Vanicream. It's a sunblock and she has never had a bad reaction to it. It works and I think in some spots has reduced flare ups. Hope this helps!

We are using Jordan Essentials sunscreen this year. All natural products. My daughter had excema when she was little and we couldn't find anything that worked for her that didn't make her itch. I burn easy, so JE is helping both of us. Jordan Essentials is a woman owned company in Nixa MO. The company was started 9-10 yrs ago. Nancy's husband also had excema, so she makes a whole bath line of products to. The Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey line is great for excema!

Hey S.,

I found a great sunscreen that will not irritate your son's eczema. I also know of a great lotion that is clearing eczema up in like 4 days. They are both toxin free and the lotion is one of the main product that this company is know for. They are both awesome, I wouldn't use anything else. If you want to know more about them please let me know.

We use California Baby and/or Earth's best baby sunscreen. EB is cheaper but CB is less greasy.

Have you tried Aveeno? My son doesn't have exzema but he will occasionally develop dry skin patches. We have had success with Aveeno brand products (sunscreen, soap, lotion, etc.)

Last summer I went through three different tubes of sunscreen until I found the perfect one. I get most of my personal care things from Whole Foods, but I was online and found this amazing sunscreen. I am a huge label reader and I don't buy anything with junk in it. The sunscreen we use is called Soleo Organics. It it awesome. It stays on in the water and is actually very good and moisturizing for your skin. You can get it at www.carenonline.com

My daughter has severe eczema and the only one I found that she doesn't scream at "it burning" was Vanicreams sunscreen. It really rocks and was highly recommended by Children's Mercy Dermotology...go to www.drugstore.com and you should be able to find it easily. It's also very light so you don't get the fussiness from something that feels heavy with the kiddos! We used it through our entire vacation last year in Houston for 3 weeks and NEVER got red and no complaints from the kiddos...heck, they even lined up waiting to get slathered! Yippee!

About a month ago I went on a hunt for a sunscreen for my daughter who has excema after her face, arms and legs broke out in a TERRIBLE rash from a Banana Boat brand sunscreen. I did some research and found out that a zinc oxide based sunscreen is best for those with excema and sensitive skin. Now to find one...After standing in front of the sunscreen display at Walmart for what seemed like forever reading every label, I finally found one and I LOVE it. It's Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple. It's oil, fragrance & dye free and has SPF 50. It's a pink Coppertone bottle but says Pure & Simple under the Water Babies logo. There were only 3 on the shelf at the time and I glance at the shelves when I go back and haven't seen it since so it maybe kind of hard to find. I like that it goes on very smooth, not greasy at all, no strong fragrance, waterproof and doesn't cause any breakouts or excema flare-ups!

Our dermatologist reccommended Nuetrogena 85. It is pricey (about 10 bucks a bottle) but it has been great for my son, he also told us that sunburn will irritate the eczema that is why he reccommends the high spf.
