Our 6 month old had a pretty rough 24 hours begining Friday night around 10 pm. She had a low fever, was really cranky and did not sleep much. Saturday she wanted to sleep most of the day still had a low fever and was still in a bad mood - she is generally happy. We told ourselves it was proably from teething - so we gave her some tylonal and that seemed to help. Last night she slept for 13 hours! She did wake up once crying and still very warm so I gave her another dose of tylonal. Today she seems back to normal - no fever and in her usual good mood. My question is does this sound normal for teething or did she have some 24 hour bug? Does teething pain come and go like this? She has been drooling more and playing with her tongue on her gums. We can't see or feel anything in there.

What can I do next?

Oh, no, you have one of those teethers too! My first teethed with very little trouble, and they came up fast. My 2nd is exactly like you just described. It will come and go for a while, and then, finally, the tooth will break through. Gavin's teeth pairs will come in a few weeks apart. On again, off again. He, too gets the low fever, a little dose of tylenol before bed helps. But try not to give it all day long, she may not need it then, and you don't want her to get too used to having it Hang in there.

A., My daughter has been going through this all weekend also. She has most of teeth and always seems to be in a lot of pain when they are coming. She slept until 10:45 this morning. If the Tylonal isn't working now that she is 6 months you could try baby motrin. It lasts for 6 hours and seemed to work better for my little one.

Hi A....I have heard that teeth can shift around under the gums long before we can see them or feel them. Depending on how sensitive your child is....maybe they are uncomfortable to her every once in a while. Our doctor also said that "teething pain" can be felt into their jaw, ears, sinus depending on what teeth are coming in. You will probably learn quickly their teething pattern - my oldest would have a really drooly day, spike a little fever the next day, almost always get an ear infection on the 3rd day and on the 4th day we had teeth :) Like clockwork!

As far as a fever goes, I have 3 kiddos at home (boy who is 5, boy who is 3 and a 4 month old baby girl) and it seems that every once in a while we have the fever and no other reaa symptoms...usually 24-36 hours. They just want to lay around, not eat to much, and sleep. Our doctor told us as long as you can keep getting fluids in them not to worrk to much about the eating. Since your little one is still on formula/breast milk, as long as you are getting some in her and still having wet diapers you should be fine. Virus come and go so quickly in little ones. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!

PS My husband and I always joke that you spend so much time wanting them to "just sleep" and when they do (from being sick) we want them to "wake up!"

I think you're going to get a variety of responses to this one. I personally think it sounds like a virus, especially the sleeping part. There are a lot of colds and bugs going around right now. I know some babies do, but my kids never got fevers from teething. At least she's feeling better now!

Every kids is different, but my son was super cranky on and off while getting his first two teeth. It wasn't until they broke the gums he stopped being cranky. I heard some kids will sleep more than others and some wont sleep at all. Some will have fevers and some wont. Have you tried giving your daughter an ice ring to chew on? Has she put more toys and things in her mouth to chew on? That was what my son did when teething. Drooled more and wanted to chew on everything he could.

I would certianly add it all up and get teething. Eventhough the tooth may not be visible yet it is getting ready to come through. It may take a few days or even weeks. Each baby is different but I would suggest getting some teething tablets. They dissovle instantly and you can give them many times a day. My 8 month old is teething right now and I couldn't live without numbing gels and teething tablets. And due to the excess druel I have a bib on him all day and he has learned to chew away at that too. Good luck and hang in there!

This could be teething! My kids had low grade fevers with teeth most of the time, drooled and were sometimes crabby. I nursed a ton and also used a homeopathic remedy you can get at the Whole Foods or your local health food store, called Camilia. It is for teething and is a liquid that comes in a single use dispenser and apparently tastes good, because my kids slurp it down.

A really good reference is Ask Dr Sears Web site. It has never failed me. The best thing is to nurse when they are in discomfort or ill, as breast milk changes with the needs of your baby.

Good luck!

Generally, babies will act that way during the teething process BEFORE you can even see the tooth. It's the time when the tooth is moving through the gums that really hurts. By the time you can actually see the tooth, the pain is over since it's broken through the gum now.

Most babies definitely get a low grade fever during teething, my doctor even confirmed that. When my daughter go her lower 4 front teeth, over a period of two months, she had 2 ear infections along with the fever and a runny nose. Then a few days later a tooth would pop up. She had no problems with the 4 molars, but now she's getting her eye teeth and they have been worse than ever pain-wise for her. It's taken 4 weeks for one eye tooth to fully break through.

So, every baby is different. I would definitely keep an eye on her to make sure it's not serious, but also remember that what she experienced is very common for teething. Make sure she has teething rings!

They have teething swabs that look like a q-tip and break one end off and the orajel runs down. So just swab the gel on the gums. There is Gripe water out there for teething. It helps a lot. Also homeopathic teething drops and tablets. The tablets my kids did not like, I thought the drops are easier to use. You can get these at Wal-Mart of Target, Just about anywhere. Tylenol works, but on cranky days we use a litte motrin/ibufrofen also. Days vary when they are teething. Good luck.

After I read your post I thought to myself ''this is classic teething symptoms.'' Just because the symptoms have temporarily ceesed does not mean it wasn't teething. In my experience with my girls their symptoms would come and go in waves, somedays better than others. My 1yr old just cut a tooth, I felt it for the first time yesterday. She has been having a low fever over the past few days, but they were only in the early evening and last a few hours and then go away. She also had random bouts of fussiness and clinginess.
Stock up on some teething swabs or gel and also Tylenol and Motrin (they say to alternate b/t the two) and hopefully she'll cut her first tooth soon!!

She was probably sick. Teething you don't have a fever. Teething pain does come and go but not like that. She could have an ear infection too. If the fever comes back I would take her in. Oh and for teething hylanders teething tablets work great. They are all natural and work like magic.
