Teething Woes - 6 Months

I think my just turned 6 month girl is teething. She cannot sleep, is hypersensitive, screams like crazy, tugs ear, drools, and pulls away when i feed her. How is this different from ear infection? I don't want to take her to doctor unless I need to but if she is teething there is nothing doc can do. I gave some washcloths and she liked it...only for a while. I am short of giving her tylenol. Rather not, though.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I finally figured it out. IF she goes crazy screaming uncontrollably at night and no amount of cuddling helps, it is teething. We just have to expect it for about 3 nights or less and the next day i see a white eruption on gums. She has been doing this consistently for every tooth (or sometimes sets) that come out. No ear infection....just teething pains. Thanks for all the answers.

My son never tugged on his ears with ear infections...so, that was always a mystery to me. But, when he was teething he would. It just depends on the kiddo. How long has she been acting like this? Has she been running a fever at all? If she has been running a fever at all, I would call the doctor for recommendations...you don't always have to go in. I resort to calling the nurse and asking her opinion, since she knows my son and knows the doctor she's the best middle man.

If you think, it's teething I would get some Hyland's Tablets and/or Drops to sooth her discomfort. There are also, tons of homeopathic remedies that you can use...just google 'homeopathic teething remedies'.

Also, I became a fan of Motrin vs. Tylenol because is lasts longer and was less doses in the long run.

Good Luck!

Sounds like all the things my girl did when teething. Go to the health food store and get homeopathic teething pills, they are safe and work sooooo well it's amazing. I also rubbed her gums with my finger and let her "gum me" you will have tons of fun when they poke through

I would definitely recommend the teething tablets - you can get the homeopathic ones - Hyland's at CVS and grocery store pharmacies, also. My four month old twins have started "gumming" everything they can and are a lot more fussy without the tablets. Sometimes with teething they can go into an ear infection - but I would try the tablets and see if it doesn't alleviate the symptoms and then head to the doc if she is still fussy.
Take care!

Hi L., your daughter may be experiencing an ear infection and teething, some babies/children get ear inffections while teeting. I had friend who;s daughter got an ear inffection every tme she was teething. For teething pain keep a spoon in the freezer qand massage her gums with it, you can also rub infants tylenol directly to the gums and that that helps as well. I like what you wrote at the bottom about you daughter teaches you how to doit all and still be as good as you can be, if not better, there's alot of moms out there today stresing trying to do it all, they need to hear from you. My son is 5 1/2 months and has been teething for 1 month now and has already cut 2 teeth and is now cutting his 3rd. It has been rough with some sleepness nights but, I found that the teething tablets really did not work for him, but the infant motrin work for a longer period of time when he was hurting really bad. My son also would tug at his ear when he started teething, but the dr. said everything was fine that infants get a sensation in there ear with the nerves from teething. Baby orajel has worked but the best thing he has loved is his Tiffany teething rings. You put them in the freezer and he chews them for a while. They are pricey about $120 but they also indent the silver and you can keep it for keepsakes later which is worth it all. Hope everything works out.
